this is easily NOT the best psp game for several reasons: no story, bad camera, sacrifices battery life for ok load times(it even recomends playing this game while plugged in with the background loader or else its really slow)

No online, yeah go ahead and say xlink but no that doesnt count

I liek this game dont get me wrong but it is NOT by far the best psp ...sorry , give some real reasons as to why it is please

good game yes best game on the PSP no ...... there are better games that haven't sold as well. Syphon Filter Dark mirror, Tekken, MPO, Socom Ftb2, are among some of the best games on the PSP they all have great graphic, singleplayer modes with loads of replay and expect for tekken they all have great online multiplayer.

while monster hunter is a great game not everyone finds it enjoyable.

...no story...you liked MH (PS2)...there was no story either!!

...bad camera...I can use it just fine...

...extra battery...ya so???

just charge while playng...simple solution!!

...even with the backgrpund loading off this game is realy fast!!

compared to MH (PS2)

...No online...fine...only downside!!

...

reasons for why IT IS TEH BEST PSP GAME EVER!!

;

-this game motivated me to spend 200$ on a system!!

-graphics are PS2 quality...!!

-killing massive wyverns is F****** fun!!

-250 quests!!

-seriously...it's the best!!

-other than online the only negative is...it's a bit too easy...other than that it's flawless!!

...and if you want to play online then play MH (PS2)

...convincing???

dificulty:

Monster hunter (PS2):hard!!

MHF (PSP): can't realy say as I havn't played it at all!!...but a bit easier...

MHF2 (PSP): easy!!...if you've played Monster hunter 1 and could kill YKK with bone mal, serpent blade and no traps...then MHF2 is easy!!

...(that's my progress on MH1 btw lol)

Amount sold and good graphics can't make up for how incredibly boring the gameplay is. Seriously people, the MHF2 threads with people complaining are getting REALLLLLLLLLL annoying. Just a suggestion, play the game and stop b*tching about how gamespot didn't giveit agood score.

It is true that MHF2 is one hell of a game to play. But if you are childish enough to say that there even is a game that is the "best game eva" for any system, well that is simply absurd. ( MHF2.

I am a HUGE fan of the MHF series, I love the game so very much, definetly on my top 10 favorite games, but I would not say it is the best game. (Although I desperatly would love too.)

The gamespot review was pretty horrible, the reviewer had obviously decided it was bad pretty quickly and wasnt prepared to give it a chance or get good at the game... which is a big mistake, because thats exactly what i went through, and now its one of my favourite games. Also its bad because how can you review a game properly without playing through at least most of it and getting good at it?

Im not stupid though, i know the game is very flawed in a number of ways, i can just get over it because i find it awesome otherwise. Not everyone is going to agree with that. Considering that, i think claiming its the best psp game is kind of silly. Theres more than a few 'better' games, but for many people mhf and mhf2 are the most fun and rewarding - thats certainly the case for me.

oh and people who want a story... go somewhere else! its about killing big monsters, why would you want a story getting in the way of that? Theres other games that do better than i think capcom ever could.

And as for lock on... it would make fighting one monster far too easy, and fighting more than one an annoying chore. The game is much more fun without it, where skill defines how effective you are.

I have said it a thousand times and I'll say it again.. I just dont see the point! You fight the same basic monsters over and over again and for what? So I can get better weapons and amour? Hey that's great, now what? Well you do it again, and again, and again! If you're going to make a single player game that works like this, atleast add a decent story to it..

Not tomention the cumbersome camera and controls.. But as it has been said, everyone has their own opinion. And as for the review.. What did you expect? It's the same stuff in a larger package.. Gamespot has never treated such sequals kindly.

ditto..

you guys also didn't mention THE absolute worst part of the gameplay, and that is the crafting system. The GS review got it on point on that note...

IMHO, it's a good game becuz it's the only one like it on the PSP, but it could have been lots better with just a few extras. (camera, lock-on, practical crafting, and online play, maybe even a lil story)

J-link

Im not arguing it should have gotten a good score. Its a game with many flaws, and as you say, its the same stuff in a larger package. However, the review was lower than it deserves. Id give it a 6.5 or maybe a 7.0, if im being objective. If i can judge it personally, more like 9.0.

ditto..

you guys also didn't mention THE absolute worst part of the gameplay, and that is the crafting system. The GS review got it on point on that note...

skreetpreacha

That was the worst part of the reveiw, making a huge deal out of the crafting system! First thing, its just not that important. You can go through all the but the hardest monsters without ever crafting anything, and for those hard ones, you might need to make some mega potions (potion + honey). Secondly, there are already complete combination lists on the internet. Gamefaqs has one! If this is the worst part of the gameplay, then its an incredible game!

And ill say it again. lock on would ruin the game. It would be too good for single monsters, and probably screw you over for more than 1 (say rathalos and rathian at the same time, oh yeah that would be fun if i had to lock on to one...). Its just not that hard to play without it, my 10 year old brother can do it. The game certainly has its issues but this is not one of them.

I love this game. I don't understand why people hate it so much.

Lock on: bmaisey has a good point about fighting two wyverns at the same time. This game is hard because you have to keep your eye on the prize, and not get eaten. I can run circles around a rathalos easily while keeping the camera fixed on it. All you have to do if free up a finger on the left handto manipulate the d pad while you move around with the thumb. Its a little akward at first but the payoffs out way detractors.

And have any of you played the first MHF or even MH (PS2)? That camera is a thousand times worse since it can pass through the walls giving you a face full of background. Next thing you know your on your face because you got hit with an easily dodgeable attack that you couldn't see coming.

I admit it has a few problems. The crafting system is not one of them. Just because you dont want to spend the time to get mats, doesnt mean the system sucks. It means your lazy. And I have never needed to craft one of everything in the craft list thanks to the complete online lists. Why bother making stuff your not going to need.

As for storyline, there is one, it might not be good, but it is there. Your called to Pokke village in order to replace the resident hunter there, who had been wounded by the Tigrex. From there on its takes over as the quest to become the best dang monser hunter the world has ever known. I don't need a story that centers around how "awesome" master chief is.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is by far not the best game on the PSP, I'd say it's one of the worse.

Pros

- Nice graphics

- Lots of quests

- Dragons

- 4 player coop is interesting, but not put to good use because of no online play

Cons

- Gameplay is clumsy and boring

- Annoying camera

- Long loading times

- Very repetitive

- Disorienting, so much stuff that it practically overwhelms you

- Absolutely no story whatsoever

- Odd design choices, such as having a time limit on quests, having to go into menu and scroll down to pause the game, weapons need constant sharpening which is only irritating.

I could go on and on but I think that pretty much sums it up.

Not everyone wants to spend 1000 hours grinding for honey and potatoes, if gaming hours is what makes a game fun then I can make a game tomorrow with a million hours of game play just by make grinding take forever. Seriously grinding with no story doesn't equate to great game.

The Monster Hunter Freedom series is my favorite of all time, it just can't be beat in my eyes.

First off, adding lock on in this game would have ruined it entirely. It gets rid of all skill and would have made the gameplay horrible.

Second, the camera in this game is absolutely perfect, if you don't like, chances are you aren't using it right. I can fight through a 30min battle and not lose sight of the monster at any time (unless it flees of course).

Gameplay is amazing and addictive. I can't think of another game out that on any handheld that offers a minimum of 3-5 hundred hours of gameplay before having to start over.

The graphics are the best available on the PSP hands down.

The crafting system is just fine...there's nothing wrong with it. You don't even have to use it if you don't want to, so who cares.

Farming, mining, fishing etc adds even more depth and fun to the game.

There is so much content in this game that you'll never be able to see it all unless you throw your life away. ;)

Online is not needed, and I prefer not playing online...its more challenging that way. If you want to play online, get the PS2 version of Monster Hunter.

Honestly though, unless you put around 50+ hrs into this game, you won't be able to appreciate it fully. I was about 20 hrs in and didn't really care so much about what was going on, but after you put enough time it, the game gets so addictive you can't stop playing. I have over 100+hrs in the first game. Trust me, put the time into this game, and you'll see it was worth it.

I can keep going on about the positives of this game as well...but I don't want to write a book.
