It seems people think that Demon's Souls is more like a WRPG because its set in medieval. But i never see any WRPG play like Demon's Souls.

Fallout and Oblivion plays more like a FPS and Mass Effect plays like a TPS. Even Dragon Age plays more like PC style RPG.

RecentlyI startplaying OoT for my 3DS, and it felt that i was playing lighter version of Demon's Soul, specially the way u use your shield to block then counter attack.

am i alone in this? I dont play that much WRPG, so if any WRPG u know that playes like DS please tell me.

It's not about the gameplay or setting (lots of JRPGs are set in medieval ages). It's about the kind of storytelling. A game is classified as WRPG because you play as yourself, because the character of the hero (if you even choose to be a hero) is not predetermined. Japanese style RPGs have a mostly linear story and set characters. That's why people say that Demon's Souls is more of a western RPG. Personally, I prefer calling it an action-adventure, the same with Legend of Zelda. The gameplay is too far from other RPGs.

I see what u mean, but to me I never felt like i was playing WRPG. And to me the way story told is much similar to SOTC and Zelda, the environments tells the story. But now I see why people classified this as WRPG.
