Good game, but not great in my humble opinion. Heres why:

1. Horses run unrealistically too fast - i know this helps to make the game more playable, but they run faster than the fastest cars in GTA 4.

2. The optional sidequests are almost all very dull - does anyone really get excited about picking herbs? Fallout 3 has much more interesting sidequests as a comparison

3. cut scenes and backstory too long winded. If the story was a little tighter, the game would be more attention grabbing.

4. Interiors are way too dark.

5. not enough easter eggs. In a landscape so vast, there is too infrequent reward for exploring. Again Fallout 3 does this far better.

erm i think thats it for now. Anyone agree?

I havent played Red Dead yet, but I see its pretty popular and it gets good ratings. So I would just say prepare for a big backlash by the fans.

Can't say that I really agree with any of those points...but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Personally, the only things I didn't like was the way the ending was presented...they could have done that a lot better, and the multiplayer is lame. Other than that, best game I've played in a LONG time.

Cutscenes are a bit long, I will agree - though I was bothered more by the constant "do this for me, then I won't tell you what you need to know and you'll have to do some other jack**bleep** a favour" story structure that carries on for far too long. It would also be nice to have more easter eggs scattered around, as there is very little reward for exploring other than to see the sights they've crafted (which is good for a while, I suppose). Everything else is gold, though. Fantastic game - just less so with the PS3 version.

  1. I thought they were pretty much spot on, not unrealistic at all. I base my comparison on films like Lord of the Rings, where there is alot of horse riding.
  2. Well some of the pass time quests were a bit dull (shooting contests, herb gathering), but the stranger quests can be very amusing. Almost every single one is based around some interesting/quirky/disturbing character (the cannibal, the man with the flying machine, the opium smuggler, the man married to a dead woman, the religious fanatic and the possible god/devil to name but a few).
  3. The story paced the length of the game. If you wanted a shorter story, you'll want a shorter game. And why would you want that?
  4. And how much of this game do you spend indoors? Less than 1%.
  5. Maybe, but doing the stranger quests will take you to everywhere worth seeing.

2. Agree

3. Disagree

4. Don't get this point. If you mean buildings, I disagree.

5. Partly agree, it does lack easter eggs but the animals make up for it in my opinion.

Best game in ages, the ending was excellent. the horse riding bugged me a little as i wish the horse did actually keep the same pace when the x button was held down, it is better than GTA4, and i love GTA.

I loved the horse riding. It was acutally had a bit of a learning curve to it.

That's what I've always hated about GTA/open-world car-oriented games. All you do is hold down X/R2 for 5-10 minutes...it just gets old for something that you have to do a lot. I wish they'd implement more engaging controls like driving manual transmission, make it a bit of a challenge in of itself.

I just finished it this week and both agree and disagree with your points: Up until about half way, the story and cut scenes are quite engaging but then it just seems to drag on a little, especially the last set of missions..... I have to agree with you that there is a lack or reward for exploring, even the rewards for completing the ambient challenges lack any real benefit... As far as horse speed and interior darkness is concerned...I think you're getting a little too pedantic about little details lol

I didn't realize the world of warcraft crowd shifted to consoles to enjoy picking flowers and shooting harmless animals from afar.

What is the point of gathering the stuff anyway - all ya do is sell it all...but money is pretty much useless too.

Every mission you do is so anticlimactic - it starts to get exciting shooting people, then it ends and you're left in the middle of nowhere listening to da birds tweet. The game has no atmosphere to it.

Despite what anyone tries to claim, there's very little happening in the vacant landscape.

Characters aren't interesting and missions are all the same...herding cattle WTF! or get on your horse and hold X to follow an NPC while they chat away? Come on!

You could probably steer a broom harry potter-style with more finesse than trying to handle the horse. Oh, same for the character when your not even on horseback - why do you turn around like that?! fail

Ragdoll physics for getting knocked over while your character isnt dead is rediculous. Try falling over yourself - ya don't just go limp until you stop tumbling, ya put your hands out and pop back on ya feet .3 seconds later.

And so much more but eh, ill stop there.

Yea, no exaggeration by a long way the most overrated game I've ever come across. 5.5 out of 10.

Hmm, some of your points are pretty weak, IMO....but I agree a bit with your general thread. I think its a very good game, but certainly not Rockstar's best work. I think the hype was wayyy too big on this game, or at least the hype I had been hearing. That being said, I dont regret buying it at all. For me, its not as good as GTA4....but still better than 90% of the other games that come out.

By reaching certain ranks in the challenges you get rewards. ie if you reach Rank 5 treasure hunter you get free stage coaches and rank 5 survivalist i think its increased dead eye....pretty useless rewards but thought id mention it lol

And yeah it does get a little repetitive but these are just minor flaws imo...il give it an 8.5/10

When it comes to a game being a classic, no one remembers the minorflaws inside of it. In a few years I will remember some of the great characters, main parts of the story, and the ending, based on those this game is a classic, imo.

i give it a 7.The framerate really stutters and the along with the terrible movement of the player, its just all Clunky . All the missions were that crap where u can ride along and listen to boring dialogue or skip. Gta IV is much better , GTA IV haters and MW2 haters are on Chuck Noriss' to roundhouse kick list.

1. Horses do run that fast.

2. Picking herbs isn't really a side-quest, more of a challenge to get stuff. Side-quests aren't for everyone, I'll give you that.

3. Most people love good stories, but there's a skip option for the cut-scenes.

4. You can change the brightness and contrast.

5. Easter eggs are just something the devs add in for lulz; they aren't necessary in a game.

Jeez your arguing that everything back then wasn't quite as good... "way too dark" - Lightbulbs weren't invented.

"Horse riding way too fast" - Horses are the fastest travel back then so obviously nothing felt faster and i diagree, they seem normal speed.

"excited about herbpicking?" - Again life was simple back then so yes it seems realistic, especially since there were no oxo cubes to flavour your stew back then so a lovely herb was a good boost.

I found the game dragged on a bit to long, the ending was awesome but I felt the story seemed to die out and then all of a sudden you'd be back in the plot. For a while I didn't think I'd have the patience to complete the game as some of the missions are just zzzzzzzzz I reckon my copy will end up on EBay. The ending was awesome though

Agreed. I just finished this over the weekend and found that it was all quite dull after the first few hours. All of the above is far too true. Don't forget the 'great' ending that everyone talked about. Not so great. Why would he do what he did, trying not to throw a spoiler out there. All game you don't do anything like that, but then you're forced to, for story. It's dumb, I dropped my score for this game from a 9 to an 8.

Is a little bit overrated IMO, it got old quick, don't get me wrong, the game is great, but there was something missing here, it wasn't as fun as i though it would be, the story is good with some nice action sequences, but other than that, yeah, no classic for me either, just a good game, oh and the multiplayer was lame.

Personally, i have more fun with Saint's Row 2.

Anyone who says this game isnt great is an idiot. Its not a matter of opinon, this is a fact. It may not be your type of game, but the game itself is very well done. I'm like 94% done overall and cant wait to hit 100%. Also I think the challenges are a nice distraction... you dont actually have to complete any of them, but its gives you something to work towards in addition to everything else in the game to do.

I love this game, i love everything about it. I think fallout 3 is overrated in my opinion.
