Maybe I haven't been here long enough but I don't get why people are pissed at the 9.0 rating, who reviewed it, or the GOTY title especially when the game hasn't even been released as of now. As long as it looks like something you would spend money on, that should be enough for you. Personally I thought Tom's review of the game was constructive criticism but in no way affects my decision of purchasing it, especially after playing Part 2. Everybody has their own opinions and most of the time, it's a good practice to agree to disagree and roll with what you feel.

I don't see anyone pissed, maybe two people on the Uncharted 3 forum, that's it, nobody here.

I can't understand how anyone could be unhappy at a 9/10, that's a fantastic score. Oh no, Gears Of War 3 scored 0.5 more, that means nothing.

It's because video game rating in general is completely broken. There's this attitude online that if anything scores below an 8 that it quite simply isn't worth playing. There are a lot of people out there that believe anything 9.5 or below is disappointing and didn't live up to the standards they had hoped for. Of course they don't read the review, they just look at a number.

I agree, the system is broken. I wish the scores were more honest like movie reviews, if you look at metacritic...one of the most popular movies of all time (The Empire Strikes Back) has a score of 78. Now if that was Uncharted or any other hyped game it would be considered a failure, it's so stupid.

its kinda the reviewers fault for not rating bad games with scores such as 1,2,3,4 often... when even bad games get 6's and 7's no wonders many are thinking a 8 is just slightly better than a crap game

completely agree

when a crap game is given a 7-7.5 its saying something if a game only gets 8-9 because thats 1 more than the crap average game not getting a 5 but a 7

I expected a 9.5 but 9 is still a rock solid score. IGN went the full way with a 10 though.

Its a great score, just a shame Tom seems to find a stupidly small thing to remove .5 of a score for... He's a bit of a tool sometimes.

I don't really take much notice of scores. The main thing which influences me in GS reviews are 'The Good & The bad'. I find this really helpful. As for Uncharted 3 getting a 9...[QUOTE="Weenski"]I predicted 9 - 9.5. 9 is i great score, I don't really see the problem. Uncharted 2 got 9.5 and that really was an amazing game in every way imo. Uncharted 3 gets a 9 on Gamespot & people think the reviewer (Tom) is biased? No. He's a human game reviewer and his score reflects his opinion of the game. If it got 7.5 then I could understand everyones comments.

That's the worst thing about reviews really, and i just don't understand why that isn't consistent. Either take points of if it's similar or not, across the board.

Seems a fair review to me, inlike the joke that was the IGN review giving it a perfect 10 in EVERY category. That is just plain stupid. 10 for replay value? really? 10 for graphics? PC BF3 got 9.5. Really? The IGN review should never have been published. It was a sad day for gaming reviews in my opinion.

Ithink most people are just butt hurt over Gears got a 9.5 and Uncharted got a 9.0. I honestly don't like the .5 system. I think it should be just the whole number or nothing.

Third  His UC2 and UC3 reviews are basically identical...a lot of raving on improvements and story elements and multiplayer and then some combat/cover minor issues plus some complaints on the linear platforming. I dont care really. He could give it a 6.5 and my pre-order would still be gold

I'm happy with the score and agree. It's mostly important to people here because thay want uncharted to be known as the best game, or best contendor for GOTY. Thats my guess. Anyways I think the score is great and people should just have fun with it when it comes out

I chalk it up to expectations not being met. I think some people thought this game would receive a "10" and when it didn't that created some unease (which I don't understand because Uncharted 3 has receieved OUTSTANDING reviews from many different critics/websites). What's even more amazing is that we haven't played the game yet so to think it should have gotten this and that score is a bit (as I've said in another thread) premature. To all of you who are upset with Gamespot's score of Uncharted 3 --- play the game, write a review, and give it the scoreYOU think it deserves.

MushroomWig

I agree, the system is broken. I wish the scores were more honest like movie reviews, if you look at metacritic...one of the most popular movies of all time (The Empire Strikes Back) has a score of 78. Now if that was Uncharted or any other hyped game it would be considered a failure, it's so stupid.

It might have something to do with the cost of video games. If someone is going to drop $60+ on a game they probably want to know it's going to be worth their time. I, on more than one occassion I'm sad to admit, have spent the price of a movie ticket for a film I was pretty sure was going to be bad just because it might still be entertaining.

Granted he may have been off for expecting it to raise the bar like it's predecessor, I see what some of you are saying but I still can't get past the game not even being out yet and the negative reactions about the review. If I were to base purchases strictly off of video reviews, I would rather have someone who goes through everything with a fine tooth comb so I can decide for myself what I should overlook in their review and be like 'I knew he was just nitpicking' than to trust the review of someone who is just rating solid 10's all across the bored telling me everything is picture perfect only to be disappointed when I purchase. Even putting all that aside, he still gave it a 9.0, that's still a strong, solid rating. Now if he rated it a 6.0 or something, I would have raised an eyebrow but his review seemed pretty honest and detailed to me, plus he showed extensive footage of the game in action.

Like, does anybody seriously base their choices of buying certain game on a review? I'm really broke right now, and I'm not willing to spend my money on something without knowing it's worth, but a review doesn't help much, it may give me a light or two of what the game is, but I won't base my decision on somebody else's opinion. I use whatever it's available to find out by myself if the game's worth it: watch gameplay videos, play a demo, borrow it from a friend or test it at the store, whatever is available, I'll do it, but just base how I'm going to spend my money on a review, no way... Anyway, there's something that I found stupid in the last few years, how many nowadays are rated with 10/9 and most others with 8/7/6, I'm just 20, but I remember when games were rated properly to what they were worth it, there were games being rated with 2/3/4/5 , now almost everything is 6 and above. 9 is an excelent review, and Uncharted 3 isn't worth more than that in my opinion, it's a fair review...

It's a good score and I don't see how any reasonable person could be upset.

In the actual review Tom pegs it for rvery reasonable things but some people couldn't handle anything less than a perfect score for a game they haven't even played themselves yet (minus the beta).

If you're an Uncharted fan I doubt you'll be dissapointed. Play the game and enjoy it. If it makes anyone feel better it's one of the highest scoring metacritic games this year :)

I actually can understand a 10 for replay value, at least in my own opinion. To this day, I still sit down and play Uncharted 2 from beginning to end without skipping a chapter, and oftentimes not even skipping most cutscenes. It is one of the few games of this generation that I can consistently replay and not get bored of doing so, therefore I can only imagine U3 is the same way. Also, let's not forget the multiplayer and co-op modes. This game has a lot going for it, and while you may not see it as a feasible reason for a 10 on replay value, others do.

I think Uncharted 3 is living up to all the hype. It is getting a 94 metascore (49 critics so far) and Uncharted 2 had a 96 metascore. Pretty close. I think the complaint is that it doesn't do anything new and different. For me, Uncharted 3 doesn't need to do anything new or different because Uncharted 2 was so great.

I remember when I use to care about specific ratings certain games got, when i use to care about "system wars" in general, making ratings all the more important. But the older (or the more mature?) you get, the less you care about ratings, and the more about how much fun you can have with a game.

Honestly, when you see a game, and you think you might like it, you should play (buy/rent/borrow). Simple, kiddos.

Admittedly, the only times I got mad in the past few years of gaming is with gamespot's review of Infamous 2 (honestly that reviewer is...for a lack of a better word, "not bright", and also it makes me wonder where he learned to write [hey, that rhymes!]), the somewhat overrated MGS4 and Uncharted 2 (yes, some of you might be rolling your eyes right now, but when you're as jaded as I am, all you look for in a game is FUN gameplay, not cinematic presentation...uncharted only has cinematography, nothing else), an overrated Super mario galaxy 1 and 2 (ratings should reflect fun, not just overall tight gameplay), and...those are the few that come off the top of my head. I just don't like it when reviewers feel the need to bash or overrate the game due to buying into the "hype" (assassin's creed 1 anyone?). I guess that's my biggest pet peeve, which is reviewers buying into the hype - it just makes ppl scratch their heads and ask why games got the ratings they got after playing the games themselves.

Because it's frickin' Gamespot. Everyone gets pissed if it doesn't get at least a 9.5/10. I've never understood it either and I've been active on the site for years. Don't worry, you're not alone. People are crazy and that's just the way it's going to be. Obviously a 9 is a fantastic score and means the game is going to be superb.
