telling her was definately a mistake lol if a woman or girl gets you something you didn't really want pretend like you wanted it because most of the time they worked really hard to get it and you sound like a jack@$$ for saying that you don't want it. I say you keep DMC4 and buy Burnout with your own money.

You probablly shouldn't have told her that, just keep the game and enjoy it. It really is the thought that counts in this situation (however cliche that may be): she bought you a $65.00 game because she knows you love them, and it was probably a bit of a slap in the face to hear you in a sense "complain" about it.

My advice would be to just keep it, play it, and let her know that you enjoy it, even if you don't. I know this isn't a relationship forum, but i'm just trying to help out. Plus, all that aside, DMC4 really is an amazing game, and you're sure to get alot of fun out of it, especially if you enjoy challenging yourself and trying it on harder modes.

Well I still say you keep DMC4 maybe even appologize to her. I'm sure you'll get $60 sooner or later then you can get burount when it's not sold out. Even if you feel it's not her moneys worth she still bought the game for you.

pretty much man, it is a damn gift. Just accept it. The last thing you want is to hurt or anger your wife, she just tried to do something nice.

alrighty heres what you do:

1.whatever you do DO NOT GO BUY BURNOUT. women are crazy, if you buy burnout and toss her gift aside she'll take that as you tossing her love aside. crazy broads these days

2.tell her you're still dissappointed that she got you that instead of burnout, HOWEVER you'll still play it because SHE got it for you

3. make sure she see's you playing the game here and there with a big grin on your face

4.after you got through the game go tell her you actually really enjoyed it and she made a good desicion getting you that instead

5.now wait about a week then you're safe to go buy burnout. maybe even for safe measure play through devil may cry a second time first.

thats funny, because my wife has gotten me 70% of the games I own. I never ask she just likes getting me gifts. I have a few games I don't want and have no real want to even play them. But do you think I tell her she wasted her money on some dumb game (CSI was the latest game) when all she was trying to do was be nice and make me happy, hell no. as a guy we have morals and its good to be truthful with our wife, but its better to keep her happy by not making her feel she can't do anything right for you. DMC4 is a top rated game, I can see why she would think it was a good gift, its not like she got you sonic or superman.

see i understand, but it was expensive. and im afraid if i beat it in less than a day and she find out, she might get upset because she spend 60$ on a game that i beat in one day. you know?

From one husband to another, just take the damn game and enjoy it. Then after your done playing, take her out to dinner and show her how much you appreciate her. Trust me, your wifes feelings are much MORE important then what gift she gives you.

DMC4 is not a bad purchase, I feel no remorse on buying it.

Do you know how many wives give video games as a present?? not many, pal. So just enjoy the game, and tell her that you're sorry for saying what you said. Make sure she sees you playing and after that, tell her that you take all your words back and that it's an excellent present.

That or be doomed to get socks and ties from now on.

I don't know how couples deal with giving gifts but my wife and I have an agreement/understanding. It goes like this:

  • Always keep the receipt.
  • Be honest. If it's not something either of us wants, just say so. There's nothing wrong with saying I don't want this. That's why #1 is keep the receipt.
  • See #1 and #2

A couple christmas' ago, I completely bombed on my wife's gifts. I mean, I was nowhere in the ballpark. What did I do? The day after christmas, I went to the mall and bought her nice sum gift certificate and wrapped it in a nice box and everything so she could go pick something out herself.

No I know your situation is slightly different so I recommend what some others said... Go ahead and play through the game. Even make sure she sees you playing it. When you beat it, go to her say "you know what, I enjoyed that game and I glad you bought for me". That will go a long way with her even if she sees right through it. But make no mistake about it, she's letting you buy your own games from now on:idea: You'll probably hear her say "i was going to buy you [insert game here] but I wasn't sure you'd want it:roll:

I pulled a similar move as TC on Fable when it came out. My gf (now fiance) bought it for me. i beat it in 2 days and vassilated on trading it in. Unfortunately I let her know I was thinking about doing that. **** that sucked. I apologized, made up for it, obviously i did not trade the game in for a few years, and she forgave and forgot. Now, TC, my excuse is I was 19 and a freshman in college at the time. What's your excuse? ;)

Bad move asking her for a reciept imo. Just be happy that she stepped out of her comfort zone and even got you a game. =D Might as well give DMC4 a try and make her happy, and you'll probably at least enjoy playing the game.

Night_stalker01

Y'know, there is such a thing as a nice way to tell her you wanted a different game. People here keep telling this guy it would make you sound like a jacka$$ for saying didn't want DMC4 and that it would make her feel bad. But I think it's just the opposite. She bought you the game so you would be happy. If it wasn't the game you wanted, and you tell her that(in a nice way), she'll know that your not happy with the game she bought you. You must understand, her whole purpose in buying the game for you was so that you would enjoy it. Which ultimately means if it's not the one you like, then she's not gonna mind you returning it for another game. Because then, you'd be happy, which was her goal from the start. You get what I'm saying?

Telling her was a bad idea. We should always embrace the presents that we are given, especially by loved ones. It means that they care;)

Big mistake pal. Come on, you should be thankful to her buying you a gift.

Telling her was a bad idea. We should always embrace the presents that we are given, especially by loved ones. It means that they care;)

And yes, DMC4 is a great game.

Well, names do have different meanings in different languages. Perhaps you embody the idea in English, while I embody it in Spanish;)

Y'know, there is such a thing as a nice way to tell her you wanted a differen game.

Agreed.

Sure, but don't hold your breath waiting for her to buy you another game down the road.

You made the biggest mistake ever!

Shouldn't of said that to her, but glad that you made it up to her.

My wife bought me plenty of games in the past, I think the last one she bought me was Turok. I liked it, gave her a kiss and hug.

Later on like the guy said, Take her out to dinner. That's what I did, but never do that again man. It's not right!

I would take Burnout over DMC 4. Just enjoy DMC4 and then ebay it off or trade it in when you are done then go get Burnout. Burnout is not the usual race game. It gets pretty viceral at times, especially if you have a surround sound system with a good subwoofer ;) and oh yea the online play is pretty fun too.

I'm just going to say enjoy DMC 4, maybe it will surprise you. I think it has lots of re-play value, heck sometimes a replay a mission once or twice before going to the next one.

btw, I'm a girl, sometimes guys get me gifts that I don't want either, if I get flowers my cats just knock them over and eat them, I don't tell them that though. :P I just say "thanks how beautiful".
