Whats the safest and best way to turn off my PS3? Should i turn it of using the switch at the back of the PS3? Should I turn it off with the SIXAXIS controller? Or put my finger over the button on the front until the light turns red?

What I do:

I shut it off using the Sixaxis because I'm lazy.

I turn it off in the back if I know I'm not going to be using the system for a week or longer.

It's worked well thus far.

I usually only switch mine off using sixasis,or front panel console on/off,and only on the back overnight. But I did have to turn it straight off at switch at rear once when it crashed.

if you flip it on and off 5 times in a row it will blow off. BEWARE....

yeah use sixaxis or front button. Use back only when you need to move it or going away for awhile.

In the manual of the PS3 it tells you to pull it on STAND BY MODE, then hit the switch on the back! (Or the front if you have a cooler for your PS3)

I think my system is ruined, because my cousin used the back switch to turn it off. I told him off the second time he did it. I don't know if it's the game, Enchanted Arms, the game is freezing alot. Formula 1 demo also froze.

The system is quite expensive, you need to turn it off properly, not pullthegroundoff from whereit's standing.

the reason you need to shut it off with the sixaxis or the front button is because when the playstation powers down it needs to make sure that it isn't doing anything vital when it happens. It's like shutting down windows before your power off. If you shut it off when the system is changing some vital file that is part of the OS or firmware then that file is corrupted causing your system to be a expensive paperweight. Always shut it off by the front button or the sixaxis unless it freezes up and you have no choice.

Stupid Question... Its common sense to either turn it of by the six axis or the touch sense power off. And if you wanna save power turn it off at the back. But never switch off at the back before turning off the system. Think of it as a PC!

OK maybe not a stupid question. If u switch it off at the back, your not giving the console a chance to save stuff to the hard disk and shutdown properly.

You can't just turn it off directly from the switch at the back. First from the controller and if you don't play for long you turn it off also from the back.
