Simply put: No. Current generation HDTVs are pretty much capable of 3D display... except for the fact that they're lacking the small 3D chip needed to process the additional stream of images that the new generation of 3D tech needs to generate an image. It actually kind of sucks, since 3D TVs will be essentially the same as what we have now, but will undoubtedly cost $300-400 more because of a dumb little chip. Most bluray players will be able to download a firmware update, I believe, but I'm not sure on that.

Yeah it really does. I don't think that 3D gaming will have a big impact like everyone is claiming it is.

Ahhh cant wait for 3D, then Ill be able to pick up a nice big plain non 3D LCD for alot less than now woot :D, Seriously though Id vomit wearing those glasses all the time, the most I can do is Avatar length about 3 hours, and even then I took them off 3 times to see the screen in all its blurry glory.

Answer to your quesiton though, No it cant.

first of all, no, as people have already stated, you cannot turn your tv into a 3-d capable tv (obviously i am not talking about the ancient two colored glasses, you can use them on crt tv sets)... apart from that actually i am quite thrilled about the new 3-d craze, i think gaming industry is about the first ones who could make perfect use of this technology, however i do not anticipate that it will be an integral part of gaming in the next five years... there may be some titles here and there but the technology is still in its infancy if you consider consumer electronics... oh, bear in mind that the new tv sets with 3-d technology have at least 200 hz refresh rate to create a fluid stereoscopic image, so it will be somewhat pricey in the near future until those displays become cheaper... :)
