I own a samsung 3d plasma 720 tv. It's native res is really 1366x768. HD content actually looks considerably better at 768 vs 720. Especially 3d. For instance I was a little disappointed at how 3d content looked coming from my ps3. Later on I got cod:Bo for my xbox. There was a message on the game about setting my res to 720 for 3d play. I did so in the settings and started playing the game. It looked awful, so I went and changed my res back to 768 and the game looks wonderful in 3d. There was an enormous difference between the two resolutions. I would love it if I could also set my ps3 to 768. Any chance of it supporting that res?

720p means 1280x720. If you're TV is 720p, its native resoultion can't be the one you mentioned. Anyway, the PS3 can't be set to display that resolution. Maybe you can work something out in the TV's settings ;).

I am quite aware that 720 is 1280x720. Just because a tv is advertised as 720p doesn't mean that is it's native resolution. Go here http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6608453&RSort=4&csid=ITD&body= And scroll down to the specs. It's reolution is 1366x768 like many other TVs on the market. Which makes me wonder why Sony isn't supporting that resolution considering the picture looks better.

Oh, I didn't know that. They could've at least name it 768p :P. Maybe Sony will do something about this in the next update.

There is no bypassing the native resolution of the game. Thats not even sonys fault anyway. I can't see 48 pixels more making that much of a difference anyway. Unless you've got a pair of microscopic eyes. Some people can't even see much of a difference between 720p and 1080p.

My girlfriend cant even see the difference between her standard def and my 'full' HD set. Apart from the size. I wish I was joking...

It has to do with how it up rez's the image. It would seem that my xbox up res the image to 768 better than my tv does. It doesn't matter how big of a difference there is in the resolutions, if the up rez'ing isn't good then it muddies the image. Trust me, it's a pretty noticeable difference. The difference in quality between 720 and 768 while playing COD:BO in 3d was pretty big. I sware I am not nit picking. I am not sure exactly what all is going on behind the scenes, or why exactly the image changes as much as it does when switching between 720 and 768 on my xbox, but it does. The thing is that when on 720 the 3d images look crappy like they do on my ps3, However like I have said before I switch to 768 and VOILA! its crisper and just better looking all around. So I can't help but wonder if the PS3 supported 768 output that maybe my games and movies would look better.

For the record non 3d content looks fine coming out of my ps3.

With the money you spent on that 720p 3DTV, you could've bought a 1080p Sony Bravia, or a 3D LED Samsung TV.

Not with the deal I got. I got the tv with a protection plan and a pair of glasses for $750. A 1080 3d tv would easily have been $1000 more.
