Will the PS3 Online Be Free Forever??...Thoughts.....

i think that the online "gaming", meaning playing games online with basic features will be free forever... but i believe that in the future Sony will charge a small amount for some extras, like large chat groups/chat rooms and more non-essential featureswalton13

I still prefer it free, but would not mind paying fees for certain online games.

they are making a paying service...there going to have things like XBL like silver n gold n etc. the one we have now there going to add some more features to it and its gonna be free, but there making another version of it that u have to pay for...its obviously going to be better. I forget where i saw this...it was somewhere on http://home.btconnect.com/hgi/ps3/ps3-system.html it didn't say this specifically it said "Playstation Core Online will be free" thats basically wat it says. Not to sure...if this doesn't happen there will be a charge probly for certain games like Final Fantasy.somma_cronic

There is no reason to charge, devlopers pay for servers, and sony gets paid when you buy a game, thatd enough to make upto half of sonys profit so I think itd be more than enough to run the network.teebeenz

The problem is not all developers want to pay for servers. It's not like PC games where these clans get sponsorships to run servers.

NO. hell no, don't  even try sneaking in negative potencial rumour crap bud. Sony's online will always be FREE! except for obvious things like MMOs and game DLs. Box guys just can't believe the PSN would be free cause they are so used to being ripped off so they have to believe Sony will eventually charge for online experience but that's not going to happen. What may happen is MS finally stops charging it's fan base for something that should have been free in the first place seeing as it would then be obvious to them if Sony is delivering the same or similar features for free. i think it's preety cool that sony offers free online play even though it's not as good as xbox live. but to answer the quesion hopefully the'll keep it free but i won't be surprised if they come out with a online service with more features and mabye a small fee.xbox360dude8

And Huxley, an MMOFPS is coming out over LIVE with thousands of people online in the same world at once. Who knows if it will be lag free, but if a developer wants to create dedicated servers and prioritize online features, the sky is the limit.
