Will there ever be a PlayStation 4?

Every company losses money in making a console, but they have well made up for it. And what kind of a question is that? There is no doubt in my mind there will be a Playstation 12 so long as Sony stays a well profited company. Same with 360. There will undoubtedly be a xbox ____ snwboardn08

There wont be a PS12, but I know sony will continue to make systems. They will have to change the name eventually

almost all consoles sell at a lose in the beginning except for the Wii this generation. Also 3.3 billion is not a lot when you look at the big picture. Other consoles have lost twice that already and they are still in it. How about we just enjoy this gen and let the future take care of it's self.hiryu3

Sony has lost 3.3 Billion dollars on the Playstation 3 (I was surprised that they were selling it at a lost in the first place) Do you think Sony will continue to make another console next generation?Tech-Man08

Most companies operate on losses during their early stages of the new products. PS 2 caused losses during 3 years for Sony. But, this losses are covered with other departments. Sonys other department kept the company strong, and later on, the victory of BD and the success of their TVs and music equipment gave the company more incomes. Thats why they can easily operate on loss.

Its harder for mono product companies as Nintendo to operate on loss. Because should their product fail, they are doomed. Also, the early stages are about winning ground, which is why many companies launch their new products at a loss. Those products sell at a lower rate than their parts, and than their previous research. But once that they are stablished, it can later change into income. Though daring, the inclusion of BD on the consoles ended up giving Sony the future hard copy format which until online distribution overtakes the hard copy one, it will lead the market. They also participated in the creation of the parts of the console, which gives them more income from future royalties.

The console is in the 13 million units right now. Its not a failure anymore and the last reports say that it is working on profits now (which may end in another price cut taking it back to loss but giving it a more accessible tag).

So, do I think that they will launch a PS4? Yes, of course. What is it going to have? I dont have a clue. Will they go for top edge graphics or will they go for medium quality graphics or will they remain as an improved version of today is yet to be knowned.

Not every company. Nintendo launched Wiis at a profit. I can't say I like the system that much, but there is no denying Nintendo's genius.
