since the ps3 is coming towards their end of life cycle, will you consider buying another ps3 as more of an insurance policy in case of your first ps3 breaks down? I have over 50 games and would hate to see them go to waste if my ps3 breaks down 5 years from now and sony stopped selling ps3s.

I'm building a gaming PC this year, and probably getting a PS4 next summer.  If my PS3 lasts until I've finished off a good portion of my current backlog I don't see myself buying another.

i'm thinking about picking up another ps3 at some point, although i only replaced my 40gb with a slim last year, i still think it might be worth the investment just in case the ps4 isnt backwards compatible..

No need. They sold so many and will keep saling for years like the ps2 I would think finding one won't be problem.

Agreed...why do most people keep on forgetting that fact? Sony has always showed STRONG support for its prevoius-gen consoles because it still has a big market and the fact that everybody isn't  in a rush to jump on the next-gen bandwagon.

Nope. Only way I'd buy another PS3 is if the current one I have breaks down. And if Sony continues making PS3s after PS4 comes out, just as they did with the PS2, then I don't don't have to worry about not being able to find one down the line.

If the ps4 is backward compatible with ps3 games, I will just get a ps4. If not, I'll get another ps3 on sale because my 120gb is filled, i could use another ps3 for a bedroom tv and have another one as insurance.

Yes, because my PS3 is starting to run really hot and the fan makes alot of noise. Plus I can use it as a chance to upgrade the HDD since that would cost me $50-70 anyway. I don't really "like" the super-slim per se, but I will probably get one of those eventually (I've read they have some overheating problems of their own though... so I'm kind of wait and see, not really in a hurry.

I have no reason to replace my PS3 unless it completely fails on me. It's been running well for over 4 years now, but I would definitely get a slim if anything happens to my PS3, though I hope that never happens.

Naw, I have 3 already. A broken 60gb console, a 250gb FFXIII Japanese console, and a 250gb super slim console. I'd say I'm good. Once I get some extra cash I'm going to try and fix my 60gb console to keep as a glorified PS2 machine.

I too prefer the slim over the super slim but it isn't a deal breaker for me. I have to believe that they will reduce the price because it has been $250 since August 2011. Drop it to $200! I heard that the PS4 will be $430 which is a very good launch price because I was expecting it to be more. If that is backwards compatible, I will get that in 2 years but I doubt it is BC.

I currently own 4 PS3s.  One for my bedroom, living room, outside, and bathroom.  Thinking about getting another for my garage while I work on repairing RROD Xbox 360s. LOL

I sold my launch PS3 and bought a 500gig white slim back on the 31st. Very happy I got some money out of the old system. It was running as good as new, but I didn't want to risk it. Now I have a new console under warranty until 2016 due to extended warranty by Sony!! I don't plan on buying a PS4 at launch. I have too many old games to beat and probably won't have the money.

Given that I just got my CECHA PS3 two months ago, no. I'm not holding much hope for backwards compatibility either, given that CECHG PS3s onward can't even play PS2 disc-based games.

I already got 2 PS3s, but even if I only had one, it is too late to buy one. PS4 will most likely come out this year and once I buy it, PS3 will only serve me as a multimedia platform.

I bought the extended warranty (4 year plan in 2010) after by original PS3 (60GB model) dies from blu-ray lens not working - so I'm good until Sept. 2014 for my PS3. I'm sure by that time PS4 will be released and I will focus on that hardware mostly. I plan to trade in the PS3 and all the games as well as picking up PS4 warranty for few years.

With the unpredictable hardware issues we had this generation, I'm not taking any chances.. It's sad truly, both my PS1 and PS2 lasted throughout all of their time without fail.

It's what it is I guess. I expect next generation to be even more expensive then this one. Good warranty will be a must for me personally.

Always. Whenever I buy some expensive tech I always opt for an extended warranty. A small price to pay for peace of mind.

No I have a Playstation 3 60Giger Phat, Playstation 3 320giger slim, and Playstation 3 250Giger SuperSlim. So I am currently set for PS3 a Phat, Slim and Superslim.

Unless Sony releases the PS3 Super,Super really Super slim.

I await the Playstation 4...

At some point, I will buy another one to keep in the box until it's needed. I have a boxed PS2, still, for when all of the used ones are so janky and messed up that I can no longer game with them. I like to ensure my gaming doesn't get interrupted. Right now, that brand-new PS2 I have in storage is becoming more and more valuable to some buyers, as well... Not that I will ever sell it. But the PS2 has stopped being produced. I have a huge (and ever-growing) PS2 library... I expect no difference with PS3 games. As the 4 comes out, and focus drops, that's when I start picking up a lot of games...

... Add to that the factor of my not liking where the game industry is starting to head (Cloud Crappola, Download-Majority/Only game sales, possibility of anti-used-game tech, higher prices, etc), and this will probably be the final gen for me.

So yes, like the PS2, I intend to buy one and set it aside in storage, for that inevitable "Rainy Day".

:)

I'll probably wait till the price drops more then pick up The Last of Us. It's the only PS3 game I'm really interested in. I love the setting. After that, I'll just make it a blu-ray player in another room in my home. I've bought a PS3 a couple of times to play exclusives, then I sell them, rebuy. This time, I will most likely keep it for good.

No, at least I hope I won't have to, I still have a original fat PS3, though not really original, its the 40GB model.
