That's the question.

Since so many people feel it should not go multi-platform, for any number of reasons, but you can hardly blame the publisher for wanting to make more money, would you be willing to pay extra for MGS4 if it meant it remained exclusive?

Well I guess I could. It was one of the main reasons I bought a PS3. Though I would never buy a 360 for it (for my own reasons) I still hope it stays exclusive. I've never cared about other games or this exclusive junk, but I hope MGS4 stays on PS3 for mainly my own selfish reasons LOL

no and anyone who would is pathetic.

I cant stand pathetic sad fanboys that cry if a game is released on another system, god some ppl act like the ps3 or 360 is like they're own child or something jesus its ridiculous.

Buy whatever console you want but dont cry if a game is made available on another one you happen not to like for whatever stupid reason.

As long as you can play it thats all that matters, some people just make me laugh.

This was in no way personal to the maker of this thread btw

I kind of see your point. The only problem I have with it going multi is if they start to "dumb it down" so it will be the same experience on all platforms.

Why would I pay more for the game to be exclusive? All that does is help some greedy corporation, not me. I'd rather pay less and it be multi-platform.

You must look at the forest for the trees. Its not that we all just think "OMG 360 OWNERS CAN'T HAVE IT! ITS OURS!" I personally am looking at the overall impact on the PS3 if this goes multi plat. There are many people out there that are going to go out and buy PS3's for MGS4. if it goes multi-plat, then what do you think those people are going to do? go for the $500 system, or the $300 system? I am really wanting to see the PS3 succeed, but if it keeps dropping exclusives, there is not much to set it apart from competition.

You could argue "Why do you care? its not like Sony is paying you!", and you'd be right. But I care because, again, If Sony succeeds, then in the end, the PS3 owners are rewarded by better games, and more exclusives, as well as more people to play with online.

Its a giant circle, and what goes around comes around.

I agree with you, but at the same time there is no way in hell I'd pay more for a game, for the sole reason of it being exclusive. That's BS.

Yes personnaly i would because the reason i stood out in the cold all night waiting for this sytem was this game and a few other but essentially it was mgs4 and if it goes multi plat then ytf didnt i just buy a 360 it has gears and halo ill be really angry if this game goes multi platform if it means paying 100 dollars so be it.

and thats not a very fan boy thing to say considering my comment about how i should just have bought a 360.

Why do people care so much about multi platform it probably won't go and they'll pay the price for it but what harm is it going to do, no harm at all, whats all this crying about exclusives 'sony doesn't buy exclusives' you have to pay thats the way it works it's just business, devil may cry 4 is goin multi platform is that physically going to hurt anyone no so whats all the arguments about. At the end of the day they are only video games.

I could not care less what system it was on. I have them all. :)

Actually, I don't like the MGS games. I've tried 2 of them and just didn't care for them.

forget us having to pay more to keep this game exclusive! sony needs to stop having soo much pride and just buy the exclusitivity!!! konami is also pissing me off! cuz wat they dont relise is that most of sonys fanboys that havnt bought a ps3 yet is waiting for this game specifically to finally purchase their ps3! it would also probably have 360 boys jump ship just to play it, just like how sony boys did just to play GeOW......DONT DO IT KONAMI!!!!!!

That is what i wanted to say. Why would they announce such a thing right now though? all thats going to do is make people wait longer, to see what konami does. And if these people wait longer, Konami will only see that people aren't buying PS3's.

where as, if Konami were to say MGS is DEFINATELY going to stay exclusive, I'm sure people wouldn't hesistate to buy PS3's by the boatload. So in theory, Konami is hindering its self more than it is helping. However, I can see how this could be more of an indirect way of asking Sony for cash. Maybe they've already hinted before in private, but Sony never caught on, and this is like.. a last ditch effort to get some fundage out of Sony? It makes sence when you think of it that way.

they have had a metal gear solid game before on XBOX and it didnt do well, what makes them think they are going to sell on 360. now im not a big fan of metal gear or stealth games but i do feel sorry for the fans. see the thing is usually when they make a game for one system it comes out better because they used the consoles strength and power. when they make it for more than one system they have to make it where it has to work on all consoles meaning cutting things out. for 360 they are going to have to cut levels and graphics just to let it run equally on the 360.

The problem has a lot more to do with how much money has already been spent to develop the title and how much they are looking to make in return.

If they spent$30 million to produce this (I've actually heard they spent more but who knows for sure) and if they make $10 / copy they need to sell 3 million copies to break even. And while that is possible it would also make MGS4 the all time best selling title by a long shot. Motorstorn and RFoM only sold 1 million each, so I think they are a tad worried they might lose money here.

So really they need 100% of PS3 owners to buy it, or port it and double their sales with an additional 3 millionfrom 360 owners. I think that is the real issue.

What are you talking about??? The 360 has a bigger user base and would sell just as well on the 360 if not more than it would on the PS3.

I just love how someone is always trying to say they would have to "cut out graphics and levels" for it to be on the 360. Such a lame and ignorant statement and yet you know nothing about what's going on when it comes to programming. Just in case you didn't know the RSX video card that's used in the PS3 is nothing more than a modified version of the 7800GTX. It just happens to be 3 or 4 gens old compared to the just released r600 that's in the 360, modified of course.

When it comes to power and the ability to perform the 360 and PS3 are just about equal. Don't let Sony fool you into thinking other wise.

So what would the dev costs be like to port a CELL/RSX optomized game that is rumored to barely fit on a DL BR to run on a different architecture restricted to a publishing medium a fifth the size?

I don't think game companies are anywhere close to just breaking even. They make the discs for next to nothing and they also have sony paying them money to feature the game on their system.

Why care so much if it goes multi plat anyway? Even if it does it's not going to come out same date as the PS3 version. Not to mention that the main platform is the PS3 which means most likely a crappy port to the 360. I'd buy it on the PS3 rather than 360 for that reason alone. You guys shouldn't worry about these little things so much.

do you honestly believe that kojima productions has been working in a 360 version of the game? if they weren't, the 360 people will have to wait at least 6 months, that's the time konami will take to compress 50gb into 4x9gb.

I have no problem with it going multi-platform, for as long as some of the better games on the 360 come to PS3. This would make even distibrution of games and prevent many gamers from feeling as though they are missing out on exclusives either for the PS3 or 360.

Well, I wouldn't pay a penny more than the regular price of a game, it is in my opinion Sony's duty to make sure konami are happy money wise.

How do you think konami feels when they hear on the news like all of us that rockstar got a check USD 50 million for"exclusive episodic content"

Personally, I got both consoles so i dont care, but it seems to me that in this generation, the so called "new kid in the block" got cash and he is willing to spend it, so sony get use to it, rules seems to be changing and just pay for exculsivity and dont be griddy especially not with MGS, cause it will cost you.

Actually I believe most of the 50gigs is being taken up by the music which is probably uncompressed. They could save a lot of space using compressed audio. Still it would take at the very least 6 months to come out with a 360 version of MGS4.

Anywhere from 15%-30% of the original cost to develop is what it typically costs to port a title. Even if we say MGS4 cost 50% of the original budget, thing is they could easily sell more copies on the 360 platform so the return on their investment is that much more worth while.

As for the whole "multi-disk" thind I don't see it being that big a deal,if your options are buy a PS3 or get up to change a disk every 5 hours...

Like i've replied previously to all of these other "MGS4 MAY GO MULTIPLATFORM WTF?!?!?" threads, who cares? As long as it doesent go exclusively to 360 or Wii, let everyone else enjoy...it will still sell best on the PS3

Actually I believe most of the 50gigs is being taken up by the music which is probably uncompressed. They could save a lot of space using compressed audio. Still it would take at the very least 6 months to come out with a 360 version of MGS4.

if so, why does it matter if the 360 will get it a half year later than the ps3 people? timed exclusives sell consoles too, when the average consumer goes out to buy a console and he wants to play MGS he won't think " i'll buy a 360, i'll save 20$ and wait 6 months to play the game that i want"

Oh as a playstation 2 owner and xbox 360 owner I say let it go multi. Let's face it most of us aren't billionaires so to me Sony drops the ball as far as pricing goes for the console seeing as what type of economic state the U.S. is in. Yes they dropped the price but Konami as a business is waiting to profit back the 8 million it invested in this monster and with the limited amount of owners of a PS3, Konami asks itself "How long can we wait?"

Anywhere from 15%-30% of the original cost to develop is what it typically costs to port a title. Even if we say MGS4 cost 50% of the original budget, thing is they could easily sell more copies on the 360 platform so the return on their investment is that much more worth while.Yuck_Too

How so? Granted the X360 userbase is larger but the MGS series fans are largely PS devouts.

As for the whole "multi-disk" thind I don't see it being that big a deal,if your options are buy a PS3 or get up to change a disk every 5 hours...Yuck_Too

I'm not bashing DVD's or complaining about changing disks, I'm wondering what kind of "massaging" would be required to effectively shoehorn a game of that size to work with the X360's capabilities.
