Wow...try playing FF VII on PS3.

Because it looks so bad you'll get eye cancer. 

Not that I'm upset.  I certainly figured any PS1 game would look brutal blown up to 65 inches on my HD set.  Still, the fact that the visuals were sooooooo amazingly bad was truly shocking to me.  Each pixel used for an eye, for example, looked like a full square.  Even the FMV stuff was rife with jaggies.   

Anywho, just wondered if anyone else braved the test on their set up.

I hope not. My FFVII discs broke years ago so i haven't tried it. Actually i don't think i have any PS1 games left that are playable.

IN about six months the last thing you'll do with a PS3 is play a PS1 game on it.      

I just did it on a lark. It's a game that absolutely captured me after I picked it up (never figured I'd be a RPG guy), and that's why I kept it. I know I'll never probably play it again, but the storyline was truly remarkable. On the other hand, I HATED FF VIII so much that I never got another one. Having a lead character that never said much more than "......", and an ending that sucked so hard they heard it in neighboring states, left me to think that FFVII, for me, was a one time love. Anything beyond that was going to pale in comparison.

I can't wait for the onslaught of PS3 games. Loving Motorstorm. Loving Madden (becuase I'm good, dammit). And loving Blu-Ray.

I never thought I'd say it, but I can't wait for Little Big Planet either. That just looks.....fun.

Well i'm an FF fan, and i disliked FFVIII. FFIX however is my favourite game of all time. I would recommend trying one of the PS3 FF's or White Knight Story when they get here :)

The best thing to do, is use a PSX emulator on the PC...it has cool tools that make the graphics look A LOT better, along with AA...

Its the next best thing to a redone remake.

I will never understand why so many people dislike FFIX. Anyway it's just an opinion so i don't see why it's such a big deal. 

I bought God of War at Wal-Mart for only $20. Its a great game but it looks TERRIBLE on the PS3 when combined with my 32inch lcd with HDMI.

I may break out the old PS2 to give my eyeballs what they really want.

You won't see a difference on an SD set.  HD stretches the image and shows you all the ugly imperfections. 

Doesn't God of War run in progressive scan?  So you could at least play it in 480p?

Progressive & Widescreen.  You could play it in both assuming your set displays both Progressive &  Widescreen.

personally i thought it was fun but i couldnt stand the kidsy art direction and the story wasnt the greatest either

That is pretty much the consensus on why most people dislike FF9. FF9 has the stereotype of being kidsy while FFX-2 has the stereotype of being girly. It is, indeed, just a matter of opinion and what you like in your games. The majority of Final Fantasy fans (those that have been around since before FF7) tend to write off FF9 as an ugly stepchild.

I respect any Final Fantasy player's opinion of FF9 being their favorite FF, if and only if, it was NOT their first FF. Most of the times I hear people say "zomg ff8 is my fav!" "ff9 is teh greatest evar!" usually haven't played many RPGs or it is their first FF after playing some other ones.

To each their own, my 2 favorite RPGs of all time are still Suikoden 2 and Xenogears (despite the disappointment that disc 2 was) and plenty of people have disagreed with me, so it's cool.

 I have a CRT based RPTV, a sony WS6550, that looks better than 95% of the crap they're pushing today.  People decided that thin was more important that picture, and sacrificed waaaaay too much, imho.  I'm an audio/techno - phile, and I'd put my gear up with most anyone's.  

(Except someone who has the stones to play on a Runco overhead......to that, I would bow appropriately)

My first RPG was FFIV. Hmm i still don't see the kidsy. Odin obliterated Cleyra, Atomos destroyed Lindblum Castle, there was the summon fight when the party got leviathan,the BM's that fell from the ship,the alexander fight,etc.
