I really like the battle system of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time the4got10one
that was pretty cool.

so i read there will be no random battles(witch doesnt bother me)but it will be ACTIVE TIME BATTLE SYSTEM witch means it will be by commands like ff7,8,9,10....... i didn't like FF12 battle system, its not bad but i didn't like it.el-tope-pr
Yea i hate the FFXII battle system. Too much like a mmo.CrazyFanboy

Have you played another Final Fantasy game? Pick up Final Fantasy X (find it used for under $20) and then you'll know why Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, X, and X-2's battle systems are far superior.

I personally don't see how you can determine superiority between such different gameplay styles. MMO and Traditional Turn-Based aren't really all that similar (with the exception of commands). Plus the introduction of the Gambit system in FFXII added a new element to that play style (which was necessary in order to have MMO style gameplay without playing with other players)
yes!!!!
as for versus, will that be like kingdom hearts or XII?
tokenisadog
Action RPG, so more like Kingdom Hearts (hoping it is a little deeper than that though)
lol... i don't think i would consider wikipedia the most reliable source. the source for their info on the combat system is a broken link.
but if this is true... i would be dissapointed. i don't have the most experience with turn based games... but the ones that i have played did not interest me. what i liked about XII's battle system was that the environment and the positioning of your characters mattered. if you wanted to heal a teammates... you had to be in a certain range of them. if you wanted to hit an enemy with a close combat weapon... you had to actually get next to them. along with the gambit system... i felt the game's battle system became more approachable while also still having the depth for those who wanted to be really good at the game.

I was so good, that I was eating pizza while my characters owned the final bosses.:|
[QUOTE="americahellyeah"]X-2 was actually my favorite battle system, but thats great to hear its won't be active time, a turn based battle system is just alot more epic. FFXII always felt kind of muted as far as epic battles go, great to hear it. FFXIII will kick 455!schoony_5
I actually have to agree with you that X-2 is one of the better battle systems. I liked how fast it was, but that was about the only thing they got right with the game, back massage anyone?(that has to be themost disturbing partof any video game i've played)
X-2 was the same active time based system from FF4 to FF9. The only difference was the default option for X-2 was set on "active" instead of "wait" for when the timers expired.
But overall I'm glad they are going back to the active time based, it was overall my favorite type.

FInal Fantasy 13 time/turned based. Final fantasy versus 13 realtime/ no turned based but open fighting.
So your saying Versus is going to be kinda like DMC???I love turn-based games. FFX more so than the active type, but I still love it. No random encounters? great. But I hope they implement it as they did in Chrono cross, rather than in FFXII. Chrono cross had one of the best gameplay system in the rpg genre. No random encounters, enemies didn't chase you around causing you to run like idiots trying to find the exit(which would have been fine if you could open a door/treasure chest while in escape mode in ffxii..), and the ATB was very2 fun to use(whereas in ffxii, battles didn't feel that epic, as others have said).
From the way the trailers looked, ffxiii didn't look like it was gonna follow in ffxii's footsteps, but you never know, it may still. That game was still kinda active turn-based, in a real time sort of way, haha. But above and beyond the gambit system, whihc i might be able to live with, is please let there be no constant grinding in the game. I hated how in ffxii you almost always had to grind between areas, just cause you leveled up painfully slowly. And please let there be a deep and engrossing story, not something where after grinding for 5 hours, you get 5 minutes of story....which usually was meaningless anyway. You could probably count on one hand the plot points for ffxii.
I was kinda hoping maybe the battle system would be something like grandia 3, where in between turns(ie while your turn icon was heading towards becoming available for use) you could manually control your character, so you could move, jump, roll, surround an enemy and do other interesting stuff movement wise. Then, when your icon became available for action, time would sorta stop, you could key in what action you wanted to take, and then it would be executed. So technically, you could plan to jump just before your turn, have time stop while your in mid-air, and get extra actions to execute because your in a jumping position. And so on with other movements. haha that's more of a wish though, i'm just excited to know what ffxiii will offer. I kinda don't want to know before hand, cause it will sort of spoil the surprise of it. But in this day and age we always want as much info as we can get on games..
I'm totaly old-school...i prefer the old battle system from ff7/8/9/10/10/10-2...the battle system from FFXII was really cool but...like i said, old school...honestly, i really don't f**king care about enovation in the BS, i just want a beautifull world to explore, old battle system and an AWESOME story...that's all i wish as a fan..._ChIcKeN_
Amen.

Not exacty, cause in ffx-2, your characters were sort of independent from each other. In that character A didn't have to wait for character B to execute his command before they would move. This would lead to your characters attacking almost simultaneously (giving you combos and all). And being able to delay your enemies movement was cool, if ultimately pointless(cause they'd still execute it anyway). However this made magic pretty irrelevant in the game. I'm currently playing ffix, and so wish they'd take their turns straight away, instead of waiting for each other to move first.
Then again i also think there was more to ffx-2 than most say. As with gamespot's review(which, although i never would trust scores, had one good line): at times, ffx-2 can be as poignant and charming as it's predecessor. I just chose to focus on that aspect more than complain about all the other flashy stuff.
