think about it, playstation 1 got the PsOne, ps2 got the ps2 slim, psp got the psp 2000, ps3 will obviously get a slimmer version, but people will still complain for those who have the original ps3 saying "why did you have to do that!!" " Sony has Backstabbed us!!" slimmer versions for the sony consoles is a trend that will never end

Yea probably, but it'll still need to fit the Laptop HDD in it. They'll probably have to put the power brick outside the machine too.

If they do manage to slim the PS3 down it won't be much because the hardware and cooling system just about fills the present console as of now.

Quote of the day! How much would they really 'slim' it down? I mean theres so many components that are needed that cant really be scaled down per say.

Yea. I don't even know why people even question the idea. As time goes along, components can be shrunk, and parts removed. I'm actually surprised by the amount of people here saying that it wont happen, or if it does happen, it wont shrink much. It will happen, and it will shrink a fair bit. End of story.

Maybe the PSP-2 will launch in 2011 and will be graphically impressive close to it's older brother, PS3, much like the original PSP.

the size of all those hardwares can be reduced once they go into 45nm CMOS in 2009
the chips will need less electricity to work, so the hardwares will produce less heat, as a result, the size of thefan and the powersupply can be reduced

it's not impossible

So what? Many systems dating back to the NES/SNES have had a second version come out.If it still does the same stuff and plays the same games, how is it a "backstab"?

PSONE and Ps2slim came near the end of the lifecycle for both consoles respectively.

I don't think I'll really care when it's 2016 and the slim PS3 gets released.

Not to mention, the 80GB units are already missing the EE. The slimline definitely won't have it.

Yeah I'll stick with my trusty launch system. Thanks.

theres a video or someone taking apart the ps3, and theres little to no room in it, its crammed full of chips and such, itll be 4 years before there able to think about it because right now the technology just isnt there for a slimmer version

Yes there most likely will be one, BUT it will not have the EMOTION ENGINE. That is all that I care about right now, theres nothing really that they will add onto it to make it really better.

Yeah that is true however the slim versions all came when technology was better, this is just being said to todays standards, the slim versions are put out many years after the original so the technology is generallyeasier to cool does not require as much power etc etc. But it does take years before slim consoles come out and it has also been provem that the slimer consoles generally take longer to load the games to atleast thats what I haev found but either way i got my PS3 lol :D hope this makes sense or atleast you get the gist of it

as soon as they come up with the slimmer version of the blu ray drive it will probably get into big developement, as it would be difficult to predict how small the blu ray drive will get, still that won't be for a few years, and i personally have always liked fat versions more then slim.

Yes we know this. As long as it doesn't detract in any way from the original model (see next paragraph), making a smaller more effecient unit should be welcome. But sony did back stab us by discontinuing hardware BC that they touted so much- by the looks of it, they discontinued the 80gb and software BC unless they are re-releasing the 80gb with the dual shock like in the MGS bundle. Anyone know if the MGS4 PS3 will have the software BC?

I would also like to note, I hate the PS2 slim because the thing you snap the discs on is so tight it can crack discs and I won't take a chance with my rare survival horror collection. What a low quality piece of junk, at least GC's snap had pressure points you could push in.

the slim will not come out in that long...in the ps2 it took a lil longer but then they got the slim psp out pretty quick. and im sure 2 years the ps3 slim will be out. and yes there is a lot of room to cut down in the ps3. if you ever seen a ps3 open then you cant actually say there is no room to cut down

The room may be there but do you realize that there is a certain amount of mass and air space that's used as part off the cooling system in the PS3. It works on a principal of x amount of mass is needed to absorb x amount of heat and x amount of air space to help disapate this heat.

i dont know about you but my PStwo was strong and someone else said that the slims they came out with against the "Fat" ones are crappier..which is not the case at all the PStwo had a built in network connection unlike the fat one. sure its smaller but what idiot tosses their ps2/ps3/psps around? stupid to say its fragile. the psp 2000 is way better than the fat one got the built in tv out better speakers and light on your hands. the only thingharder with those is to mod it lol :S but that can still be done ;) so the ps3 slim will be a great new look for sony which generates a mass amount of customers and media back into the system why do you think they ultimately do the slim? i had a fat ps2 but bought the slim why the hell not? and thats what they are going to do with the slim ps3 make sure to give it that "life" back in its mature stage of the product cycle duh...marketting 101
