come on, ladies and gentlemen. SMILE. You own a ps3. You bought one in hopes of it being a worthy investment, and you're watching it evolve into a machine that its competition simply can't keep up with.

Then a firmware upgrade comes out with a revamped look, including slightly larger font, a redesigned friends-list appearance, and a moving-theme ability; now all you do is complain? I personally can't wait to see what new themes rise with this possibility (Kratos is gunna be bouncin' all over my jaunt). I could care less if the look of my friends list changes, it's still just as usuable. I don't care if the fonts larger- now I can read it better as I age (joke- at least from farther away; I only own a 30").

I appreciate the what's new feature because I forget to check psn every so often to where when I actuall do get around to it, I'm downloading ten demos at once. Now I know when there's a need to get on the ps store, and it'll also be easier for me to do so.

My point is basically this: please quit complaining. You've stuck with sony during larger price tags and lower game selections, so what's the harm in a display makeover that's completely practical? I got sick of my ps3's look now that I've had it for so long. I'm rolling with sony on this one. They have the best intentions at heart.

Clutter =/= practical. Also, it's ugly. That's why people are complaining.

Sparkly user-selection screen makes this one of my favorite updates in a long while. Seriously - it's one of the most fabulous things I've ever seen.

I would agree if I thought my screen actually looked cluttered. I was almost unwilling to update because of all the rant on gamespot i read before doing so, but now i'm glad that I did. If you consider this clutter, you don't want to see my closet. It all boils down to opinion, and all i've heard are negative ones; i'm putting my positive outlook out there

In my opinion, it looks ok. I find it ridiculous that so many people are complaining so hard about the friends list being ugly. Who gives a s**t? Doall thesepeople want to sit there and stare attheir friends list all day? They need to suck it up and find something more important to complain about.

People are just whiners .. that's something we all have to deal with, never happy with anything they are given ..

I personally had no problems with the update .. I like the friends list, but I do think they should have used a darker color around the names, because the grey doesn't seem right ..

But all in all, nothing wrong with the update ..

Font is kinda big but it doesnt bother me too much. Overall i give update 3.0 a 6 outta 10. That's not to say its a bad update just doesnt add anything that i find useful. I'm sure they're people out there that love it and great for all of you but to me it's just ok.

hey a six outta ten is better than average. i gotta agree, its OK. and OK is not something to complain about in my book. I can sign in easily, my controller still functions. something inside of me wants to say that second scenario is completely made up, or at least not 3.0 related

The main thing is the "shortcuts" to the PSN Store. 3 separate store icons? Really Sony? Who was so inconvenienced by there being only one store icon that they just HAD to put in not two, but THREE store icons?

"Hey Sony, I'm too lazy to hit right right down X...can you make it a little bit easier for me to get to the store?"

"Sure! We'll flood the whole XMB with shortcuts! You won't be able to find anything BUT the store!!"

And those boxes around your friends has NO purpose whatsoever except hiding whatever background you have which is kind of ironic since they were hyping up dynamic themes and now the friends list will just cover it up...

So it's ok for some of you to complain about complainers, but it's not ok for some to voice their displeasure with what most seem to think are ugly changes to the XMB?:?

There is nothing, absolutely nothing wrong with people saying they don't like it. It's not like people are selling their system or committing suicide over this, they're just unhappy with some of the changes and letting those concerns be heard.

After all, if nobody every voiced their opinion, do you think Sony would have implemented some of the more awesome things that they have in the past? No.

If you're fine with the changes, great. I'm happy for you. Try showing the same respect to the ones who don't like the changes.

The update isn't that bad but I do like the new theme background with the sparkles it looks nice and the new quick link to BBC iPlayer is quite good I haven't seen any dynamic themes like the LittleBigPlanet theme on the UK Playstation Store yet though.

True .. nothing wrong with voicing an opinion ..

But there's a difference between voicing an opinion and whining like an ungrateful little school boy ..

Problem is everyone hyped themselves so much for the update ..

The people on these sites and others aren't the only PS3 users .. there are millions of us, some people can't deal with it .. they want want want want want want .. it's sad.

We're complaining BECAUSE we want the PS3 to evolve into the best thing it can be. We're complaining BECAUSE this is a BIG step backwards for PS3 firmware updates. We're complaining because, well, this update is a mistake. I do not hate Sony. I love my PS3. More than my 360, more than any other console I've ever owned except the PS2. But let's face it: there are a lot of things wrong with this update. The least Sony could have done is made those visual changes optional. The blur effect, the font size, the friends list, etc. Surely it wouldn't be too much to ask to make those optional? Surely SOMEONE in the Sony office cringed when they saw how UGLY the new XMB is?

One quick thing about that... I did not hype this update. The instant they announced it, I knew it was minor, I was not excited for it at all. The problem is not that this update added minor features. The problem is that this update RUINED several aesthetic points of the XMB. The XMB used to be a graceful and beautiful system. Now, I cringe every time I see it.

People always over hype things, that much is true. You can't help but be disappointed if you think every firmware update is going to be the second coming.

However, the complaints I'm mostly reading about aren't for a lack of additions with this update, but rather some unpopular changes.

I'm not happy with most of the changes to this update, either. Frankly, I'm more than happy to voice my opinion, as I hope all others do, because, like I said previously, if we don't, how will Sony know what its fan base wants?

Some people can get a bit...dramatic, but still, voicing what we all think is a good thing for us all in the end.

To be honest i would rather have not had 3.0 at all. It only made things worse for me- my XMB now looks cluttered with about 4 Playstation stores (WTF Sony seriously we only need one!) and big chunky font that makes it look liike im back on SD. :o I have never ever seen someone complaining the font is too small. Why change that? It also messed up my DS3 ( i had to press the reset button to make it sync again ) and dont get me started on the freindslist. Now you cant call us "haters" because we all have different opinions and we are simply just stating ours. ( i do like the new themes but i ain't paying for them )

I understand that a lot of people are whining about it etc., but a lot of people are unhappy with it. More so than normal. A substantial amount of PS3 owners are not happy with it. I personally just want people to speak out if they don't like it, because we want Sony to know that a large portion of their loyal fanbase dislikes the update. Now, a fair solution would be to make those aesthetic changes optional. You already are given the option to change to font in the XMB. Why not give us the option to make the font a smaller size? And why not give us the option to take off the blur effect? The PS3 has a lot of customizability. It would be very easy for Sony to make those changes optional. I do have a theory about the blur effect though. I highly doubt that 'dynamic' backgrounds are blurred. Sony wants more people to buy the moving backgrounds, so what better way to do it than to ruin any free backgrounds we use? Just a theory, if they make the blur effect optional in the future I will disregard this theory.

Keeping it civil? That's the only way it should be. Civil, intelligent conversation and debate is what I enjoy the most here (even if it has fallen off greatly in recent years).

Take it easy.

come on, ladies and gentlemen.

Don't generalize bro...everybody is not hating it. I'm not overwhelmed by it, but I think it's an ok update.

Well it would be hard .. I mean there are so many people that want SO many different things .. it's going to be hard to please everyone ..

With time, they will be able to please a lot of us ..

Thank you for keeping it civil .. :)

Try showing the same respect to the ones who don't like the changes.

nyc05

Why shouldn't they complain about the complainers ? They see the complainers as a direct threat that could have an affect on their system's software.

It's our responsibility to complain because it's Sony's job to fix the issues. I don't have any problems with the update, but if complaints are coming their direction they cannot be complacent and refuse to make future changes.

Actually Sony might do just that.

On SD tv's not HD. On HD it's perfect.

So thats why I did not notice it on my HD monitor at first and I convinced myself otherwise since everybody saying it.

I hate to break this to some of you, but a lot of you aked for larger font. Remember not too long ago people with SD televisions complained that the fonts were too small in and out of the games. Even though it's hard to believe a lot of people still have Standard Definition televisions. Sorry people the other stuff like the friends list is just a taste thing. PS3 is ok with me

I completely agree with you...the problem is half these guys are xbox guys or kids who bought a ps3 and just bash it on every little thing. just go to the blog to see what i mean. It's always the same culprits week after week too. It's like they have nothing better to do than troll. It anoys me as I love my PS hardware. i found nothing wrong with the fw3.0 update besides the grey friends list , but its not a big deal. it still works. You know there is this ...derogatory name... (wish i could speak freely without being modded) guy over on ps blog that is trying to start a boycott becasue he doesn't like the frineds list grey or the ticker.... What the hell!! It gets me so mad, as they are trying to improve the console, but how can they when these haters come in and bash everything they do?
