It is not all about the looks but the functionality of the slim version. However, I do agree with you that the original version look better but if I had to buy a ps3, I would go with the slim version.

I'm glad it doesn't look as good, it's like a prize for people who already got a ps3. Johnny come lately's don't get a shiny console!

But if I hadn't already got one, I'd get the new slim over an 80gb. Bigger hard drive, smaller, lighter, and runs more efficiently.

It's okay looking, but i prefer the fat version. Atleast i won't have to worry about it breaking if it were to fall off a table.

I'm calling it the PS3 Flat as it's not really that much smaller, it's just flatter. To answer the question, I'll stick with my MGS 80GB.

The physical buttons on the ps3 really bother me... If I can find a good bundle, I guess I will buy fat ps3.

I agree, I like the original design, the slim just looks of fragile. But if I had a choice again, I would get the slim just because it is newer

No comment on BC because it's not coming back! The PS3 Flat is the same as the current 80GB Fat model only flatter.

As much as I don't like the new look, the reduced energy consumption, and a larger hard drive would be enough for me to chose it over the "fat" if I was looking to buy a PS3 right now. So if I do end up having to replace my current PS3 I wouldn't hesitate to go for the "slim"

Oh man, that is a mistake on their part. I think that they will be able to sell much more consoles with the BC feature.

I hardly think major 'issue' for the lack of PS3 sells was that it doesn't have BC. Its that it was $399. BC only holds back those who already have a PS3 .. that wants to play ps2 games. I doubt anybody that wanted a PS3 wanted to play PS2 games as their FIRST TOP priority ... not a deal breaker imo for 'them'

It really looks OK to me. I still prefer the look of the fat PS3 but I don't see the problem. It's a friggin' PS3 for $300, who cares how it looks?

I like the look of both designs equally so a if I didn't already have a 80gb and would go for the cheaper option.

The original PS3 has a better design. I am really impressed at the Slim vers. It has all the same fonction as the original PS3...+ SLIMMER(=portable) + Consumes less power= super savings XD

LOOKS REALLY CHEAPLY MADE.

i bet they can make this version cheaper than the big one.

although if it has slim blue ray reader then IT COULD BE MORE EXPENSIVE.

IDK tbh but if i had to go with 1 ill take the big one.

ANYWAYS YOU CAN ALWASY REPLACE THOSE CHEAPLY MADE HARD DISKS AND REPLACE THEM WITH REAL QUALITY OF NEWEGG.

i have a friend with 500gb and 7200rpm, and load times are considerably faster on some games. and he only spent 60 bucks

it's not more expensive, its £250. And I think your caps lock is broken. Another thing- i might be wrong, but i thought that you could only use one speed of hard disk for ps3s? are you sure that they dont just load faster because he installed them?

It's probably the ugliest console/system I have ever seen. I'm perfectly happy with my fat 60gb PS3. Even if I didn't have a PS3 I'd probably still go with a fat system.

I'm absolutely giddy. I love slimmer more minimalist hardware. Great timing too, my 360 is acting up, and I just discovered my copy of Lost Odyssey was somehow bugged after dropping over twenty hours into it. (it freezes at the exact same loading screen every time) So I'm pretty fed up with it at this point. I'm going to take it and my games to Gamestop in the morning, and use the credit towards a Slim in early September. 120GB HDD is the sweet spot zone for HDD sizes for a gaming console, especially one that installs a good deal of it's games. Considering the Blu Ray player, built in wi-fi, 120GB HDD, much much much higher reliability, and free online, that is an astonishing value. I'm all over it.

EDIT - Well, nevermind. I have to wait till September to buy a Slim. As soon as it hits shelves, I'm buying one!

Nope you can put 7200 rpm on a ps3 read it yourself. Ps3 is cheap now, But i believe the fat ass version is slightly more expensive than the slim one. Im getting one of amazon.

waited 2 months for this cut..... Thanks sony.

ohhh btw my friend got his hard disk on china, Newegg 500 gb is 120 bucks damn.

I would really recommend this for any enthusiast that way you dont have to get the useless uncharted bundle. Even though after the price cut i still believe IS USELESS.

Other than the lack of backwards compatability, I think it's sweet looking design! Although I was a little put out that they ditched the touch sensative controls for power/eject buttons.
