You think the PS3 rocky start is on purpose?

I mean, the PS2 isn't exactly a dead platform. Maybe Sony is getting the PS3 off to a slow start with such a high price point so as not to steal too much of the PS2's thunder. If this is the case then I have a feeling there might be a lot of journalists, analysts and fanboys eating a lot of crow in the not-too-distant future.

Of course it was on purpose. The #1 reason behind their poor start is the inclusion of the pricey Bluray drive in their console. However, that was a move that they ahd to make to push gaming for the future. It drove up the price of the machine, hence making less sales since the consumer price also went up due to that. They made losses, but all expected.

Why would that be so strange? Let's say you are trying to sell two things that were both very valuable, but if selling the newer item caused you to never be able to sell the older one, what would you do?

No one purposely tries to have a bad start.  The right word is "expected".  Knowing that there system has the longevity and potential they know it's going to be hard in the beginning.

ok i see your point its good but I dont see why Sony would want to loose their entire fanbase and other potiential buyers want to have distrust in their products especially since the new product is what everyone wants

What do you mean? Their fanbase is the gigantic PS2 community.

And as far as distrust in product goes, I have heard very few stories concerning defective systems.

I know their fanbase is huge with the PS2 the controlled over 40% of the VG market which is impressive to say the least, but dont you rember how before E3 everyone wanted a PS3 then everyone turned or some people turned on Sony. defective hardware sony doesnt have to many in the PS3 department but the do in the PSP deprtment. trust me i have been through 3 and gave up on it. what i meant by distrust is lack of games and the games we were shown trailers for we havent seen acctual gameplay not that matters to me but to some it does. let me give you an example the Kilzone demo @E3 a couple of years ago that video was amazing and they said it was in game footage then other people said it wasnt...so i dont know what to believe

I feel Sony needs to get back to the roots of how we have all come to love Playstation. I do believe by 2010 almost every one will have a PS3 in their home

No company would want their system to fail in the beginning on purpose.

they are ahead of the market in both features and price, purposely. once hdtv becomes standard ps3 will be the biggest bargain on the planet technology wise. so they just have to wait it out, stick with their longterm plan, make some great games, and hope for the best.

I think the transition to the PS3 is brilliant. Yes it does not take away any power from the PS2, which is still the hottest system in the world, with games still coming in, just look at the future releases. Was this done on purpose or completely coincidental is some thing i don't know, but i do know that, at this point, it's entirely irrelevant as the plan has already been set in motion, so to speak.  (chances are that business cyclcles and finacial values were taken into account and that sony probably was able to have a forsee some if not the majority of today's events)
