OK so my ps3 froze today and I switched it off from the back but I saw the yellow light stare at me for a second but now everythings ok. should i be worried? also my ps3 freezes like everyday

You saw the yellow light? If so, your PS3 will probably be dead soon. :( If it's freezing everyday, and you're sure you saw the yellow light when you recently switched your PS3 off, chances are you'll be getting the YLOD soon. :(

So it like froze before you turned it off from the back? Might have been accessing the HD when you turned it off and the yellow light stayed on till the power fully ran out.

It is definately the RED light of death.

I am not confusing it with the YELLOW light of death because the light that is flashing is RED and NOT YELLOW.

I have seen this stuff on youtube and they say to take it back to sony.

ummmmm.....check again.... :)

You really shouldn't do a "hard shutdown" switching it off at the back doesn't allow the system to shut down correctly. You should switch off via the power button on the front or by the PS button. Once in standby then flip the switch at the back.

If you want, I guess you could try calling Sony now and see if they can just replace your PS3. Just tell them what happened, and how your PS3 freezes everyday, and just see if you can send it in and get another one. It's worth a try. No need to keep sitting there with the PS3 you got now wondering when it's gonna get the YLOD. I'd call them to see what they say. It's worth a try. ;)

I know how you can get your PS3 to stop freezing while on the internet browser. ;) To do it, simply disable Javascript. My PS3 would freeze every time I was using the browser. I tried several things, and it still froze, but once I disabled Javascript, it hasn't froze once. Try that and see if the freezing stops. It should. ;)

i think thats when it occured, i normaly watch funny movies on youtube, i cant remember if youtube needs the Java. My net on PS3 is down, some error connection :(, happened yesterday i think. The net has been gay since my dad took his comp round his nans, all pc's in the house and my ps3 has just gona kookoo. Or it could be related to the system connection test or somthing. Im wondering that when i get a 500gig, do i need to reinstall the net on it, or does it stay as it is, i.e connect when you had the 40gig. If you get what i mean lol

they got the turm YLoD from the Xbox 360, it had it all the time, then the PS3 caught it.

Mickeyminime

actually i hate to interrupt your little **** session over your xbox but nobody got any "turms" from the 360. it all started with the good old BSOD on PC, (Blue screen of death for the uneducated such as yourself), now everything is "____ ____ of death" when something goes wrong. please pull the **** out of your **** and stop thinking that sony is just copying xbox because really, it's not.

as for the rest of you:

YLOD/RLOD has nothing to do with how well you treat your unit, i have seen it happen on units kept in pristine condition, it's just sheer bad luck. you can't say it's due to how well you keep it. that's like saying IF YOU KEPT YOUR CAR IN PRISTINE CONDITION IT WOULD NEVER EVER BREAK DOWN. i have a 6 year old ps2 that was actually manufactured in 2001. it has been dropped god knows how many times and moved across the country even more times than that and still works. PERFECTLY. i have neglected it in recent years, allowing it to get dusty and a bit sticky with the kids. it is still fine. meanwhile, my 60gb ps3 has today gotten the RLOD in the middle of playing a game for half an hour. it is not overheating, nor is it dirty or dusty or mistreated in any way. SOMETIMES, believe it or not, ELECTRONICS ARE FAULTY. sorry to break the news.

the problem occurs with 20 40 60 AND 80 gb ps3 models, i believe the only reason most posts are about the 60gbs is because the 60gbs were a bit more sought after than the rest. as for the comments on it being a common problem, it's not really, but it does seem that way when all the ps3 threads are about it. just remember, people don't really start making a fuss over something in public forums until they're unhappy with it.

on to my actual point, YLOD is a general error message and can usually be fixed. RLOD means your system is starting to pack it in and you should look at getting a replacement. i do believe sony will replace them out of warranty for a small fee (same specced unit only refurbed)

/rant

sorry but the first few pages of the thread really gave me the **** with all the silliness.
