Van mows down pedestrians in ‘attack’ near London mosque

One killed and 10 injured in what police are treating as ‘potential terrorist’ incident

A man driving a van has ploughed into pedestrians near a Muslim centre in north London, killing at least one person and injuring 10 in what Prime Minister Theresa May said police were treating as a “potential terrorist attack”.

Police were called at 00.20 on Monday to reports of a vehicle collision with pedestrians on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park. Counterterrorism police are investigating the attack.

A 48-year old white man was arrested in relation to the attack, police said. “He has been taken to hospital as a precaution, and will be taken into custody once discharged. He will also be subject of a mental health assessment,” police said.

It was the third incident in London in as many months involving vehicles being driven at pedestrians, following terrorist attacks on Westminster Bridge and London Bridge.

Mrs May said: “Police have confirmed this is being treated as a potential terrorist attack. I will chair an emergency meeting later this morning. All my thoughts are with the victims, their families and the emergency services on the scene.”

The Metropolitan Police said on Monday morning one man was pronounced dead at the scene, adding that eight people had been taken to hospital and a further two were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

If all the victims were muslim it could possibly be a revenge attack.

Ok this is more of a violent reaction to the previous attacks. Is that better.

This is a terror attack. Treat it no differently to the ones done by Muslim extremists.

I'm doing exactly that. I kind of knew something like this was going to happen.

The police force has been heavily neutered in the past decade or so. With constant funding cuts.

The Tories were also responsible for the cuts made to health & safety which eventually led to the Greenfell Tower fire.

The four terror attacks this year and the Greenfell Tower fire could've all been prevented if the Tory government didn't make so many cuts to police/security and health/safety.

Fake news spread by the Trumps. This is what the London mayor actually said, in response to the New York attack:

“part and parcel of living in a great, global city is you’ve got to be prepared for these things, you’ve got to be vigilant, you’ve got to support the police”

This is no different to what he has said about the most recent terror attack.

Also, it wasn't just white people killed in the previous attacks, but people of different ethnic backgrounds were killed.

Ignoring peoples problems causing hatred and anger to rise. It's the governments job to prevent this us vs them mentality from growing.

Here's what he said about the Manchester attack

So how is his reaction to this recent attack any different? In every event he was saying that we should work together to combat extremism.

Not sure how that will stop terrorism But ok.

And BBC and other news outlets , have all reported that the old man was probably already dead before the van hit.

Again, that's not what the police are saying. This is what the police have stated:

The attack unfolded while a man was already receiving first aid from public at the scene. And sadly that man has died. Any causative link between his death and the attack will form part of our investigation. It is too early to say that his death was as the result of this attack.

Ok, so the police did not specify what killed the man, as they say that will be the focus of their investigation since that will determine if the man is charged with murder or simple attempted murder.

So the news is just speculating that he was dead before, but no one knows for sure, and no one can say he died because of the attack or not.

Exactly. The police and doctors still need to determine the cause of his death, and if the terror attack played a role in his death.
