And yes I said using statistics for selectivity is scientifically valid. IF you had statistics, I wouldn't consider using the statistics as a motivation for prioritizing applicants the same as racism even if it both ended up racially discriminating.

Your responded to a direct quote where I said people proxy characteristics to discriminate and I don't advocate or discriminating based on race, and then you said that was racist.

You've been advocating discrimination on race and hiding behind statistics this entire thread. You're not fooling anyone. And for the record poverty has a correlation to crime. Not race.

I've been saying that discriminating based on statistics isn't the same as discriminating based on hate and unfounded beliefs. You don't seem to understand the difference or you don't care about the difference.

And the statistics on race/crime are not equal. Poverty/IQ/Culture are all correlated to crime. And some races, currently black communities commit crime disproportionally. In fact if you look at the IQ statistics that the Army collects they are distributed in a similarly to race / poverty / violent crime. Blacks on average have more testosterone which on one hand... gives them an advantage in sports.. on the other hand their criminality is much more likely to be violent (on a population level) and have prostate cancer at almost 2:1 compared to whites.

So yes, poverty is correlated to crime, so is IQ, culture and also race. But no one suggested race is causation.

Well that is stupid... giving examples of discrimination to illustrate points about the motivations isn't the same as discriminating. I neither own a business or an apartment complex, I'm not a member of law enforcement using profiling... or am apart of any thing that affirmative action effects.

If race has a large enough consequences then discrimination isn't the only probably, there are community differences that have to be tackled one way or the other.

No I'm not, I'm pointing out that racism is distinctly different than acting on group differences that are based on facts and aren't negligible differences. If your going to call that racist than reality is racist...

And pointed out in some cases if statistics showed a differences in group than probabilities could be abstracted out and groups can be prioritized or deprioritized. Someone pointed out as profiling.

And no, you do not need to look at the underlying cause to understand probabilities for choices. If you want to find a solution to the disparities SURE, you need to take a look at the underlying causes. And making priorities for other decisions do not need to tackle whether or not these differences are due to innate characteristics of race or differences in culture or differences due to discrimination.

The FBI link I posted earlier pointed out that white crime is different, and once they started profiling White men to specific commonalities in how white men commit theft, their prosecution rate went up 300%. Why does it matter why white men commit crime in a different manner than black men? Its not important to trying to figure out who committed a crime... only the likeliness their suspect is a white male and should be focusing on white men.

The fact is... THERE ARE RACIAL DIFFERENCES. That is a fact. That doesn't mean you should treat individuals in a particular way... but if you have to prioritize characteristic the fact remains there are different probabilities associated with picking from different racial groups and getting that characteristic. Its racist if you help black/brown people because they are statically worse off. Its racist if you don't want to sleep with someone because they're race isn't as visually stimulating. Its racist if you target/avoid particular racial culture. Its racist if you don't let white people say the N word.

Basically in your view, its racist if race ever is a determining factor in anything whether or not it be legitimate measurable differences or illegitimate prejudice. I believe that its ok to discriminate if probability suggests it makes you safer. We discriminate on a regular bases for many reasons and race while not the best indicator of characteristics... there are correlations between race and characteristics.

This thread is interesting to revisit after some of the news stories that broke since the previous response to it.

The Republican party, and the Trump administration as part of it, is systematically stripping minorities of their representation and voting rights through multiple avenues. It's even explicit that it's done along racial lines for political purposes.

We don't know if these people "have racist beliefs", but they're intentionally oppressing minorities. Does it make it better that they may be doing so without actually holding racist beliefs? Worse?

Maybe it doesn't matter. Either way they're selfish pigs who are more than happy to strip other people of their rights based on the color of their skin. Maybe we don't have to "know what's in their hearts" to know that they're scum.

There are subcultures that are race specific, white crime and black crime are DIFFERENT. As I already pointed out FBI used profiling different types of crime to rule out black suspects and increased their prosecution rate by something like 300% for white crime. Real world discrimination against black people happening at a procedural level in the FBI and its effective at prosecuting more whites.
