Syria war: US launches missile strikes following chemical 'attack'

I thought John Kerry and Barack Obama got Syria to hand over all their chemical weaponry. Who knew.

Wonder what % of the calculation is "lets attack them and by proxy try to extricate us from [the] Russia [issue]".

What's the plan? Some airstrikes to make ourselves feel better?

Coalition of the willing?

Who's stay in power if you remove Assad?

What about ISIS/ rebels?

What about Russia?

Plus this takes Bannon and Gorsuch off the front page.

Doing it with Xi visiting makes impression and puts some meat on his North Korea threat, "he might crazy enough to do it".

Can honestly say I think this is the first time watching cable news since inauguration.

Glad I stayed away. 20 more minutes of this shit and I'll turn it off again.

Good. It's not like it was a full scaled attack. They took out the base that launched the chemical weapons.

Yeah, don't do that to yourself. The information to time ratio is higher in print anyway.

I doubt that this will suddenly bring about a decent resolution to the conflict. In fact the last time we bombed the hell out of a country and created a ton of chaos ISIS seized power.

Well, this is his first big foreign policy venture. Hopefully his actions do more good than harm. I'm actually sincere when I say that. It seems like a lose lose scenario and I don't think any president has many great options on the table.

Guess we'll have to see how this plays out.

It's going to be interesting to see how Russia responds to this. World War III would not be fun.

Trump confirmed a neo-con/deep state puppet.

McCain going to have wet dreams over this.

Assad winning the war

Chemical weapons handed it years ago

UN and MSM run a narrative similar to 'Iraq WMD'

No investigation

No congressional approval

Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and US run a desperate airstrike attempt.

I don't know much about politics, but this made me chill! If you'd watched the chemical attack videos you'd knew what I'm talking about. They killed children in the most heart-wrenching way.

Well-done Trump!

This is actually makes a lot of sense. His administration was going down the shitter, and war generally solves everything. It's like a pause/reset button.

"Wait, holdup guys...war called, I gotta go. Let's finish this later, 'kay?" and everything that was going on was suddenly forgotten.

If what I read is true, and he is listening to Mattis, this makes even more sense because Mattis is the only good thing in the Trump adminstration.

The only issue here is that Russia is going to respond, and Trump can't handle Russia, and the US/World is going to suffer.

As a direct response to the chemical attack, I actually think Trump made the right call. As long as it doesn't turn into a U.S. led "regime change".

Funny thread

Trump is damned if he do and damned if he dont.

But at least he is not Obama who would never even consider doing something like this.

And as to the attack , well despite the unknowns about the chemical attack , it was the right response particular if Assad was so stupid to being using that at this point.

He was going to get criticized no matter what his response was. Even some of the people that said they are glad he sent a message to Syria for the chemical attack are turning it into criticism because of Syria being one of the countries on the blocked travel bans.

It is funny how opinions can change when you have access to classified intelligence and military advisors you didn't have when you was a reality TV show host, and follow that up with images of children choking to death on gas.

Besides, he isn't the first politician to change their mind about something controversial when it is convenient. At one point, Hillary Clinton even mentioned building a fence on the Mexican border and voted for it in a bill for it as a senator (although not as large as the wall Trump wants to build).

A few years later, she won't even use the term "illegal immigrant" because people were offended and consider the term racist against Latinos.

Even though I really dislike Trump, I can't help but think that even he wouldn't have done this if he wasn't sure that the Syrian government was the one who used the chemical weapons. And if that is true, then I actually agree with what he has done here. I don't think the west should stand idly by while Assad massacres his own people with WMD's.

This was one of the few things Trump has done right since taking office, Bravo!

Russia and Syria need to take notice that we aren't going to play around. Should be a wakeup call for North Korea as well. Chemical attacks on civilians are unacceptable, and Russia was supposed to have them removed. Maybe Assad and Russia will have 2nd thoughts on using chemical weapons.

I voted for Obama twice but he was weak in foreign affairs and immigration restrictions, though I liked most everything else including at least the idea of Obamacare, flawed as it is.

Now that I think about it, if it was actually the Syrian government who did the attack, it suggests one of 2 things. Either the Russians were complicit with the Syrian government, or too incompetent to carry out the agreed upon plan to dismantle all of Syria's chemical weapons.

Someone explain why people are quoting something from 2013 when the situation has done a 180 since then...

Also it's great to finally have a great American man in the White House again who isn't afraid to flex the country's muscle in order to protect the world.

The United States isn't going to fight everyone's battles but we sure as Hell will make sure everyone else fights fair.

I'm liking the cognitive dissonance of Trump supposedly being "affected" by the images of children attacked by chemicals, yet he won't allow these same kids to seek refuge in his country. There really isn't any coherent policy to this man it's all just reactionary, short-term planning.

So I have heard via this the sources below that Syria was actually warned about this strike hours before it happened.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/syria-warned-us-strike-threat-military-source-160050068.html
