@vl4d_l3nin: Done by a department that isn’t supposed to investigate those things and was done by a guy appointed by Trump. Nice try, but give me a credible neutral source.

@vl4d_l3nin: You know I don't care if the reason is different. Peaceful protestors were gassed under trump's watch.

It's weird, I feel like I have a different political view than most on here, but I agree with everything said so far. I'm not sure where that puts me on the political spectrum and don't really care. Out of everything said, healthcare would be my biggest concern. I know it doesn't work like this, but I wish the Gov't would take charge of healthcare and not allow individual states do it. Disability determination is a joke. The system is set to either let the person die before being approved or give up trying and end up worse than they were when they just needed help, from the taxes they already paid in. Also there's a waiting period on health insurance, if you even manage to get approved. Makes no sense. That's just one thing about healthcare and there's many others. Bugs me how much is spent on military that could be used in better ways, in my opinion. No other country spends anywhere close to that on military.

I think it is because Partisanship makes us overly prioritize our differences than our similarities. Left or Right, we all want to build a better world, sometimes our means might vary. But when you look down at the more important topics. The ends are usually the same. Culture War stuff aside.

@thenation: I think the left need to start calling out the far left then because it seems the general left is just falling in line with the insane ideology of the far left. Those of us that are conservative will call out the racist morons on the right. The left doesn't do so for those on the left. That's why I called out the entire left; there's virtually no difference.

The conservatives made a racist moron their presidential candidate and fall over themselves to defend him, while the left went with the most moderate candidate they had available.

This is the crucial difference. The fringe on the left is posting on twitter and yelling in the streets. The fringe on the right has been elected to lead the country.

Republicans assume that the Democratic party has been taken over by the fringe shitposters because their party actually has, and it's unfathomable to them that it isn't the case for the other major party as well.

Lol wtf are you talking about? What do you call the rising stars of the Democratic party? They are all fringe left.. The fringe left has power from politics to corporate HR departments.

@vl4d_l3nin: Hence the "took over the party" and "elected to lead the country" comments. They're no longer the fringe because the fringe is in control of the party. The party embraced it, and that's their new platform.

@thenation: You're aware of the Overton Window right? It's essentially a circular (though many don't see it as such) political spectrum and guess what... the far right and the far left... they eventually meet. Both sides are insane. Both sides are responsible. Both sides must be stopped.

So no. Not joking. The left has become authoritarian.

Again not joking. America is a constitutional republic.

Pretty much. It's funny how most people (from what I've read on here) can agree on like 95% of stuff because frankly most people are moderates and can agree that education is good, affordable healthcare is good, nice roads are good, and reliable and cheap power are good.

The extremists, well....ironically the extreme left and extreme right might not agree on a lot out of principle but ultimately end up being essentially the same as far as end result go. Victim mentality, refusal to compromise, emotionally-driven responses, knee-jerk reaction to word "triggers", and so on.

Never heard of it refered to as the Overton Window, just the Horseshoe Effect (i.e. the far ends of the horseshoe are actually closer together than moderate-left and moderate-right). Not sure that's accurate in the political sense, but in the extremism/authoritarian sense it sure is lol.

@mattbbpl said:

@Telekill: Where do you see the Overton window described as a circle where the left and right meet? Are you referring to horseshoe theory?

That is what I gathered as well.

A lot of people brought up Education in this thread. I do agree it is an issue, and I wanna bring up my perspective a little bit.

Here in Sweden, we used to do really well on Education, at least as far as K-12 goes. All this changed however, ever since we adopted Charter schools. We adopted that and our educational standards started dropping... hard. It wasnt just sweden either, pretty much every country that adopted charter schools saw its educational standards drop. So I ask you Americans, please don't repeat our stupid mistake.

I would say that Educational should be a priority as well on my list. And that would be to get rid of charter schools, they clearly aren't working.

@mrbojangles25: Highlighting just how much we had in common was part of the reason I made this thread. The biggest issues should generally be the same, no matter what our political affiliations are (with maybe some differences here and there). But no matter whether you are left or right, we are still impacted by the same issues, and the objective ones like unemployment, education, debt and deficit, climate change, our means might vary on these but our endgoal is nonetheless the same. Things that affect all of us (as opposed to something like the culture war).

Agreed on extremists: We see it on the political extremists here as well, persecution complex, obsession with left/right politics, accusing political opponents of being far left/right while seeing themselves as moderate, relies heavily on loaded language, refusal to compromise. Oftentimes with a heavy reliance on blogs found on YouTube or other forms of social media, and desperately try to spin anything to suit their narrative, cherrypicking numbers rather than trying to understand what the numbers even mean.

Edit: And I forgot to mention how they will sometimes even accuse others of their own political affiliation to be of the opposite political affiliation.

I’m not going to go about listing all the policies I find pressing. Many have been already noted and elaborated on.

Currently, I am concerned predominantly with how toxic our partisanship has become. When we get to the point where we view each other not as fellow countrymen who hold ideological divergence, but instead view our kin as mortal enemies who will go to any extent to win, democracy cannot function because no one will respect an outcome that doesn’t serve their own interests, alongside the mentality that all’s fair in love and war.

This is what I see happening, and it worries me far more than any singular policy does. Democracy is being destroyed from within by hate and distrust.

The fringe right (Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney, Ben Sasse, etc) absolutely panders to Israel. They aren't very different than the mainstream policy-wise. They support less spending and free trade. They also support the person who wins an election assuming that office. Otherwise, they are right in line with mainstream republicans.

No, it's because they believe that the winner of an election should hold office. That puts them fundamentally opposed to the GOP base, despite the fact that they vote along with the GOP at every opportunity.

Well, if Biden attempts to coerce another country into helping out his reelection campaign or if he attempts to overthrow the results of an election, then I would certainly hope he gets impeached and removed.

That's verified as false. So which far right news media do you get your information? The only one that get a president impeached is the president. You support the only two time impeached president and we all we given the facts. He deserved both. Why are you conservatives more invested in your party than in the country?

The Wuhan lab theory was verified as false to up until about a month ago now it may be true. See what happens when you actually investigate things? Your side has lied repeatedly...Iike when they said Trump gassed protesters for a photo op... that was a lie! Or the Russian collusion theory which was also a lie.

The left does not have the best interest of the country in mind so I will support anyone who fights them at this point.

Lol what do you want to investigate lmao? The meth heads that showed up to the white house? Did they investigate when a city block of Seattle was taken over for a month?

It was an IG group actually but whatever.

Cool story but the left actively hates certain groups of people and silences anyone who doesn't follow the narrative. I won't change your mind and you won't change mine so it is what it is.

@silentchief:

1. Just what I thought. You have zero interest in knowing everything behind it, including if any government officials sided with them.

2. Meth heads? Ok buddy.

3. There you go with a deflection and an over exaggeration. And everything was known there anyway.

4. It was the department of the interior headed by a Trump appointee

5. Sounds like conservatives. Ask the Dixie chicks, ask Kaepernick. Ask the poll workers they harassed, ask the liberals that get attacked as pedos and devil worshipping weirdos. You are doing that now.

6. Your mind can’t be changed. You have dug your heels in on your narrative.

Interesting that you should bring this up today:

6. Your mind can’t be changed. You have dug your heels in on your narrative.

1. What crazy conspiracy bullshit are you talking about? A group of people felt wronged and were angry and went to the capitol. The FBI has literally caught and prosecuted everyone involved.

2. Look up the people who actually went into the building. Of the people that died one was shot by a police officer.. the police officer had a heart attack and the other three had meth in their system. You can look up the people that were charged for yourself. The fact that Democrats called that the biggest threat on Democracy since the Civil War is hyperbolic bullshit.

3. What is a lie exactly? That the left took over an entire city block in Seattle? That isn't a lie. And you deflected to the capitol riot in the first place so stop being a hypocrite.

4. Aww so he's still guilty of it , just like he's still a Russian agent... lol doh k. Whats the point of Investigations when you will deny them if it doesn't find what you want?

5. Ask the Dixie chick's. The shitty county singers that pissed off their base? Ask Colin Kapernick? The shitty QB who was in the bottom 10 QB's his last two years in the NFL and blamed being fired on race yet was named Times man of the year and SI athlete of the year( eventhough he was unemployed)? How about you ask Scott Cawthorne, Chris Harrison, Gina Carano, Chris's Pratt and the endless people on the right that were shit canned just for not following the narrative.

6. If your side didn't do something that fits my narrative perfectly almost every single day then I wouldn't have to.

@silentchief: lol! Actually investigate? Then let them investigate January 6. Oh wait…..

Trump didn’t gas people? Oh wait, that was a Trump appointee who said he didn’t….

The left doesn’t? You need to wake up. The right and Trump couldn’t care less about America or anybody in it.

Meth heads? Look, I get it. When Donald Trump sends his supporters, he doesn't send his best. He sends cop killers, kidnappers, and, I'm sure, meth heads. But some of them, I assume, are good people. We shouldn't generalize like that.

Yea the left doesn't always send their best either.

@silentchief: Good lord.

1. False. Not everyone was prosecuted and there is reason to suspect some government officials told them where to go. Then there is why no security was there and cops let them in. Stop downplaying it, stop supporting terrorism.

2. Look deeper. And how dare Democrats be against a group trying to overthrow the country.

3. I didn’t deflect, you did. And the left didn’t do anything, stop generalizing an entire group.

4. Hypocrisy. And it was done by a Trump sycophant. You want a real study? Do one by a neutral group. Would you actually accept it? No?

5. Apologizing for people being attacked for not agreeing with the right while over exaggerating the myth conservatives are oppressed? Nice. Gina wasn’t cancelled, she got canned for saying something stupid.

6. My side? You only look for what fits your narrative and hate on anybody who you don’t agree with. Nice you admit it though.

7. There is nothing wrong with one of your pictures and the other is you (again) trying to generalize an entire group.

1. Oh stfu. You were the ones blabbering about white privilege and using the reaction to the capitol riot as an example. Was murdering one person and ruining hundreds of others with felony convictions privilege? Mayaybe security didn't want to fight a group that had no interest in going after the police? They are human after all.

2. They weren't against the summer Riots that caused billions In dollars of damage and far far more deaths then the capitol riot... so I think their ok with terrorism actually as long as it's their side doing it. They just choose to call it something else.

3. The left didn't do anything? Lol were you under a rock all of 2020?

4. Yea I would be more focused on who's actually in office now. Your the one forced on trying to dig up shit on a 70 + year old ex-president.

5. Lol wtf are you talking about.. that is cancelled.. meanwhile Disney stock tanked and there subscriber goal isn't meeting expectations.. you also ignored everyone else. Look up Scott Cawthorne and Chris Harrison for an example. You are in straight denial.

6. Again I don't need a narrative, the left writes a pretty clear one everyday.

7. Just showing some of the fine constituents of your party that the MSM doesn't like to show.

Thus far there is no evidence of that.

@silentchief:

1. 🤦‍♂️ You always resort to insults. I will not shut up because you said so. There you go apologizing for it. Try addressing what was said, telling people to shut up isn’t a counter argument.

2. You mean the “riots” that were 93% peaceful until the police and bad actors unrelated to BLM acted nuts? Riiiiight.

3. Seattle…,,Stop the generalization.

4. You’re the one bringing him up, and he continues to run his mouth and exert influence. He doesn’t become irrelevant because he is out office and you use that to protect him.

5. No it wasn’t. And the “left” had zero to do with it. Disney’s stock is fine.

6. Generalization again. And you do, you are trying to pigeon hole me in it now.

7. My party? Lmao! You don’t even know what my party or theirs is, you saw a picture and assumed it.

This is getting too easy.

@thenation:

1. I have repeatedly. Biden said it was the worst attack on Democracy since the Civil War.... lmao hyperbole much?

2. And that 7% caused billions of dollars in damage and left over 20 people dead. Lmao at blaming the police! After burning enough buildings down and throwing bricks at enough police and murdering 20+ people the police had to do something.

3. Yep Seattle but let's not forget the non stop vandalism and riots in Portland as well that are STILL HAPPENING!

4. I don't care about protecting him the fact is The Democrats instantly said the rest of the GOP is bad because they didn't want to waste time going after him. Sorry but the left is a bigger issue to me then a 74 year old ex president.

5. Yes it was.. and it again you continued to ignore the other examples for some reason. It dropped $25 dollars a share in 2 months... that's not fine.

6. Then why dont you call them out on any of their bullshit? You fight me on every single post and just ignore what you don't like?

7. I've seen your post history your pretty far left... like maybe top 3 on the board.
