Howdy,

Just a brief intro of myself, I am an Australian so I don't give a shit about your politics. Infact I identify as a-political meaning I have no opinion when it comes to politics.

As you may be aware recently, the dress choice of Melania has caused quite a stir among the media. What I don't understand is, why is your press so petty? Do you people have nothing substantial to criticize such a great family who is trying to do what's right for their country? I guess my question is why is this of such a big issue your press has to jump to their throats?

As a foreigner all I got from this debacle is

1. Your first lady is gorgeously attractive. Her fashion style ought to be an inspiration for young ladies.

2. Your press/media/critics are a bunch of desperate pathetic losers.

I welcome any productive discussion as to why one might feel the need to criticize her for such a minuscule issue where there are far more important topics that are more worthy of air time than this.

@kangarbloodyroo: Because the media on the leftist side wants to make everything about the Trump family evil. Yes, evil, including wearing something.... As a Canadian, it's pathetic what the media does today.

Generally speaking, I don't care what the first lady wears. As long as whatever it is remains classy I really don't care.

The American First Lady has the platform to be a fashion icon. Something that Jackie Kennedy perfected well. Michelle Obama was also known to be a good dresser.

Its not just a USA thing either. Members of the British Royal family, gets critiqued on the outfits they wear as well. Along with celebrities. A good or even simple outfit, can been seen as something symbolic. Take Steve Jobs Turtle neck for example. It may not something of interest to me, you, and many others. But clothes can be a big part of someone's public image. As it can be used as a representation of the kind of person they are. Or at least the kind of person they want to be.

Well it's mainly because of her buffoon husband she's getting so much flack. That plus the fact that Melania is a clear cut gold digger. I don't blame her, alot of women would have married trump if they had the opportunity to do so. Women are hardwired that way biologically, to find someone that can support their offspring financially. Men just want to sleep around with young women as much as possible.

Gold digger get no respect. And although to a lesser extent, men who remarry to younger women are also frowned upon. For the highest office in the country, a man like Trump who lacks the highest qualities we look for is an utter disgrace. Then again, things were falling apart for the middle class, and trump was the middle finger to the elite.

So you can see why Melania, a clear cut gold digger would get so much flack. She will never be seen as a respectable first lady in the same light as so many other first ladies. Maybe only by the hard right nut jobs but that's about it. Whether you like it or not, there will be tons of nitpicking for every single thing she does. Look at Ivanka, she may be a trump but she is far more respected by those on the left than Melania is.

Never understood how Melania's considered gorgeous. The lady's downright revolting. She looks better when she smiles but that's fairly rarely. Can't blame her considering who she's married to.

It Is refreshing to have a true American first lady full of class and prestige back in the white house.

Someone who is educated, hasn't lived their life with a silver spoon and is a true christian warrior with high moral standing.

When you can't find anything good to report, you find something, anything. Kinda gives Trump credit. How come every news station in the U.S. is anti-trump? Are there any neutral media sites? Or Pro Trump sites?

This is NOT an issue that is any way specific to the left or painting the Trump family any which way. This was done all of the time to Michelle Obama, too.

As anti-Trump as I am, I will readily admit this is wrong, and I was disappointed to see it. However, I suppose it's just a media thing, that is always so obsessed with what celebs are wearing. However, when it comes to making political points, it needs to stop. Doesn't matter which side it is coming from.

people will politicize ANYTHING. the first lady is married to the president whom people do not agree w/ politically therefore will attack her as an attack on the president.

it's not that they give 2 shits about what the woman wears, it's just another avenue to attack the president. same happened w/ michelle obama from those on the right.

that and 24 hour news that needs shit to report on all the time...

I think most people are missing the point of what the criticism is about.

Its not "eeeew those shoes are so ugly" its about the fact that she's wearing them to an area that's been effected by serious floods, surely a pair of wellingtons would be more effective. Its basically an example of how fake Trump and his family are, everything is just a photoshoot to them (this is a problem with all politicians, I remember a story about a presidential candidate volunteering at a soup kitchen and then the manger released a statement saying his presence was worse than nothing as he did nothing but take up space and have his photo taken)

With that said it is certainly not worth an article just for itself, at best it should just be an example used in a more indeph analysis of the issue of the fakeness of politicians and their tendency to exploit anything for a publicity stunt.

Because Americans are a democratic and populist people, if you are just showing up to try and take some photo ops and not there to help the thousands of people affected by the tragedy than **** off back where you came from because we don't need your political grandstanding BS we can look out for ourselves. The fashion show is somewhere else bitch we need food and shelter not speeches and photo ops and we will provide that ourselves. Go back to DC or New York we don't need or want you.

Well said.

I have to admit, as someone who is a-political and don't have any vested interest in your country's politics, your pathetic leftist media only serves to turn people to the other side.

Ugh. She'll never be a classy first lady. Also looks like a gremlin.

But she is better than her orange troll husband.

It doesn't. I'm first to say that I do not like Donald Trump at all, but that's nitpicky crap. People did the same type of petty stuff with Michelle Obama, too.

Well, at least they're not calling her a monkey, or more specifically an "ape in heels", along with other racist, misogynistic, and countless other insults like they did with the last first lady.

And it's not left media, or right media. It's just the media.

Anyway, to answer your question: it doesn't matter what the first lady wears, especially when it's next to nothing, as Melania Trump has posed in the past for "gentleman" magazines.

I'm no fan of Trump but I have zero problem with Melania, just because she's married to him doesn't mean I'm going to attack her.

Hey, Breitbart did the same crap with Michelle Obama and when she wore a cheaper dress than Melania (whom they praised).
