Will the Democrats will lose the next 2 election cycles if they do not pass the multi-trillion reconciliation bill?

Is that a fair assumption? My understanding is that Joe Biden's entire agenda has been stuffed into this bill. If democrats fail to pass it they will be the party that ran on government being able to make a difference and then having done nothing when finally given the opportunity to do something big.

How easy would it be for you guys to keep voting for the party that let their moment slip away?

America is such garbage with parties, and political representation compared to other first-world countries.

Democrats are feckless, neoliberal centrists that stopped being left-leaning decades ago, and offer no real change when in power because they're a controlled opposition that's beholden to a Republican Party that continually obstructs, acts in bad faith, and demands "bipartisanship" AKA sabotaging and gutting every piece of legislation they have. They never fight back because they allow Republicans to control the narrative and have also allowed them to claim to be more "patriotic" than Democrats.

People need to understand that many of us are sick of Democrats being dead on arrival, the sad news is that there are no other options to vote for.

If we had multiple parties that stood a fair shot at winning and representation, then I could actually vote for a left-leaning party. But this is America, and of course we don't have that. The only other option is the Republicans who are nothing but crypto-Nazis at this point, and they're infinitely worse.

So, in short, Democrats can't do anything, and won't actively to try and make things better or worse. Republicans meanwhile can't do anything either, and do everything in they can to actively make things worse for everyone.

Honestly, even if they do pass this thing, I don't see Joe Biden winning another election. He managed to skate by in 2020 by standing back and letting Trump's COVID response do him in. That wont work when he's the guy in charge.

And Democrats are losing congress next year either way.

What does it matter if you have 2 bad parties, or 20? The US has many parties, way more than two. It only ever boils down to just to for a few reasons. First, media has a huge amount of control over our elections dictating who gets good press, who gets bad, who gets none, and hosting debates, and secondly, the "if you don't vote for X, then you're responsible for Y getting elected" mentality. More parties won't fix either.

I wouldn't be surprised if the democrats kept it and expanded their majority slightly. The republicans current coalition is not fit for off-year elections now that a large chunk of white college educated voters left that party. White college educated voters usually turn out in high numbers during midterm elections in the US while non-college voters and minorities don't. Biden is also going to get a boost from things returning to normal by sometime in 2022 hopefully.

Not if Americans are educated as to what's happening in Congress. And the Democrats need to get that message out.

Passing a large bill on infrastructure, coupled with this reconciliation package, would be a win for Biden. If Republicans (and Manchin) are successful in halting it, Biden will have little to show by 2022. However, our political landscape is volatile. I'm not ready to make bets given our timeline. But I will say that passing it increases Biden's chances of retaining the House.

They'll lose if they can't strengthen election integrity and they're losing that fight. He can pass the infrastructure bill it and still lose next election.

@eoten: 🤦‍♂️ You really need to stop gatekeeping for Republicans. You would just reject anything he says.

I wasn't saying it was, I was talking about the restrictive voting laws being passed in Republican led states since the 2020 election.

They will get trounced in the midterm elections.

Covid is still raging, the economy is having a slower recovery then expected, inflation is booming, the Afghanistan debacle along with the boarder crisis. The left is a shitshow.

Oh Biden has already fucked up his presidency in just his first 8 months, I don't think anything he or Democrats can do will save 2022 for them. I think mandate this, tax that, coupled with the absolute clusterfuck that was the Afghanistan withdrawal has pretty much sealed the deal going forward.

Biden's approval rating is below average. Better than Trump's which was terrible but Biden's is still below average.

However, this is to be expected. Biden's political honeymoon period is over, and he was never a really good fit (too old for one). He was chosen because people just desperately wanted to get rid of Trump. This is strategic voting and the first past the post system in all its consequences.

On both the democratic side and republican side, Biden is denigrated for his dismal handling of Afghanistan. He also meets a lot of ridicule from his gaffes. He is basically a Dubya but with a D next to his name.

Democrats are likely to lose the midterms, and it seems 50/50 if the democrats lose the white house or not.

Biden's approval rating is going down, but his biggest blunder, Afghanistan is becoming a distant memory in the media and public's eye. I wonder what is causing it?

My guess would be the economy and COVID 19.

Voters will still pick dems though it's the only sane option, if you're not voting them in it's conspiracy cooks that don't acknowledge anyone in the country that doesn't fall in lockstep, and will sell out your rights for electability.

Generally the party doesn't run another candidate though. Unless Biden only does one term. Which I think he should. But parties don't primary and incumbent.

But I wouldn't sell him short. He does believe in bipartisanship, he has a way of getting people to cooperate, he found a good path forward out of the election lawsuit insanity despite the division that was occurring.

There are a bunch of people who are very upset about the election results and the covid response so far because of their personal views but the "woke" that Republican voters feared aren't running the show, the Mexican caravans of racists haven't taken over, america isn't communist.

Rather some middle ground is being hammered out between all Americana and the country is steadily going into the future once again. That is ideal compared to what we've been through.

Like your positive attitude. Let's hope we keep moving in the right direction.

The republicans likely win the white house in 2024 with anyone other than Trump. I don't like Trump's chances. It's hard to win a general election when you lose the overall vote total by 7 million+, and I really don't see Trump doing better on that front than the last time around.

At this rate COVID may help balance the numbers due to republican's refusal of the vaccine. It's arguable that Georgia was lost in the 2020 election due to republican voter deaths from COVID.

Maybe they'll all follow the advice of Trump and not vote. That would be a huge win. Keep the cult at home.

I guess to answer the topic question, it seems to me that passing signature legislation doesn't really lead to better results in the midterms. Obama passed the Affordable Care Act, and the republicans did very well immediately after. Trump passed his tax cut, and the democrats did very well. The typical American is not going to see any sort of immediate benefit from the reconciliation bill (though in the long term it absolutely will make a big difference), so it's very possible that passing a contentious bill will be seen as a waste of time and money by the democrats, while failing to be able to pass the bill will be seen as republican obstruction.
