please can someone help me find the name of an old pc game

it was the 1990's - it was a multiplayer - i think you could choose a role like engineer and it had chat in a text box -( it was not team fortress) - you belonged to a team and went into buildings and collected items and then my mind goes a bit foggy - any help appreciated
