@storm_of_swords: you can use original controllers and cartridges via adapters.
Hate to break it to you, but the hi def NES emulates the NES sound processing logic using an FPGA chip the same as the NT mini does. So neither is truly authentic, but they are absolutely accurate.
The whole authentic hardware thing is BS, it was a valid argument brought around because software emulators sucked for a long time. Now that we have fully accurate hardware simulations, it's just an argument based around aesthetics of the plastic box under a TV. The "feel" of the games on the NT mini is identical to the original hardware, in a blind test you wouldn't be able to pick them apart on a CRT monitor running composite.
Once people start to realize and accept how good accurate hardware simulations are, these retro consoles can go where they belong, in a museum or on a shelf being properly preserved. I think software emulators have just left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.
I'll admit I'm probably slightly biased as I study electronics and they're one of my biggest passions. So console hardware and projects like the HDN/NT mini fascinate me. But I really do think authentic hardware is silly, especially since people seem A-ok playing on console hardware revisions which technically aren't always accurate (SNES mini, Genesis 3).
