We're talking about beated legit so no koopatroopa shell glitch, no konami code, nothing but skill!
What was your first game to beat?
Mine was metroid on the NES
the first game I beat without any cheating machines(gameshark,AR Max) is Irritating Stick{Shtick},I was patient back then, don't think I would want to beat the real version of it(I grew impatient after all that)
Probably the Master System version of Sonic the Hedgehog. The one that came packed in with some Master System IIs.
IIRC the last level was this sky ship stage where you had to clear this corridor whilst a spiked wall followed you. And you couldn't make a mistake as (IIRC again) there were no rings in that stage. In the end I found there was an alternate route you could access by taking a platform that was underneath the stage. It detoured you around that really hard part and netted you a Chaos Emerald in the process. Aren't optional routes like that supposed to be harder than the main game?? :P
Slap Fight Coin op arcade Shoot them up. There is a Sega Mega drive port of this game. But it was never released in North America.
@jun_aka_pekto: wait there was an end to that?
btw what about contra? (or didn't anyone else here beat it without the konami code?)
Space Invaders? No. After you reach 999,999 points it went back to 0 and the Space Invaders went back to the top of the screen.
I recall there were contests to see how far one player can go with just one life.
I beat Contra on the NES without cheats. Back then, I didn't even know what cheats were.
Geez, I can´t remember what I did Yesterday now you want me to remember I did more than 30 years ago, I do remember the Pacman arcade machine had my highest score record for months ( a little bit over 1 million points ) when they unplugged it for service and the records were erased I just had to re-establish my record ( kinda like a dog going and peeing on a tree to mark it´s territory ) every time this happened, usually needed 5 quarters, 4 to "warm up" and one to establish the record again.
Don't remember, the first game I actually remember beating is ff6, but that's not the first game I beat
Either Super Mario World or The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past but not 100% sure. I was playing the NES, SNES, and Gen/MD simultaneously when I started gaming so I feel like there could've been something on the Gen or NES that maybe preceded those games but those two I just remember best.
Super Mario World
First that didn't have saving(if game over had to start over) was either Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
I remember the very first game I defeated...NES Castlevania. After that, it was Goonies II then Double Dragon.
@dylandr: I've beaten Contra without the Konami code before. I think that may have been the first game where I cheated, as well. Beating it without the code came later.
Star Raiders on Atari 2600. Just me against 40 ships. Shields, engines, computer, weapons, all destroyed, and flying through an asteroid field while trying to shoot down the last ship, and I did it. whew...
Super Mario Bros. Most likely because it was the only game I had at the time. First arcade game I beat was Street Fighter 2.
