Your all-time favourite story based ps2 games?

What games do you consider the best in terms of storytelling on ps2? I personally find the political military realism of metal gear solid very interesting and the tale of bloody vengeance in God of War was amazing.

Shadow of the Colossus. A boy literally taking down monsters the size of mountains all for the sake of saving his love is nothing short of great. Plus, it has a twist you wouldn't expect the first time through.

I'd probably go with Metal Gear Solid 3.

Kidding aside, I agree that it has an interesting story.

My choice would be Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner. The Second Runner has an interesting story that begins slow and, as the game progresses, becomes increasingly suspenseful as it crescendos towards the final battle. It is a story-based game done exceptionally well. If there is anything that it could have done better, it was the framerate and my saying that is with the intention to give credit to the plot.

Metal Gear Solid 3! I wish I could include a Final Fantasy game but I missed all the ones from the PS2 era.

Silent hill 2.. NOTHING even comes remotely close to this game.

Disgaea was my favorite on the PS2 for story. I really liked the characters, and the messages the game was delivering.

Has to be Final Fantasy X for me. I should actually try and finish XII someday and see if it compares to X, but from what I'd seen of the story... not really (still a great game though).

@ianhh6: Why did you dislike final fantasy 12?

Oh I didn't dislike it, I just loved Spira and its story more. FFXII always seemed to just be... the Star Wars plot :P

Battlefront 2 and Final Fantasy X

Silent Hill 3, so I can go against the grain of Silent Hill 2 people. Nah I liked 3 cause I was a proper Silent Hill geek and It was cool to play one that properly linked to a previous game, playing the character you saved from the first one.

Final Fantasy X is a good and obvious choice. Primal was good also, I can't remember much other then your a rock chick and it's all weird.

Story Based? Then that would be Atlus games such as Persona and Odin Sphere.

For Bandai, the best Tales I've played on PS2 and also has the best plot among all Tales Series(excluding Zeristria haven't tried it yet) is Tales of Abyss. Pretty nice twist and character development.

Nothing original from me here: MGS3 and both Silent Hills. Actually, I even liked SH4. Also, I like Freedom Fighters. Definitely not the most original of stories, but it was fun game to play.

FFX and FFX-2. I remember thinking how would I ever move on from these characters. I had grown so fond of them.

Kingdom hearts I and II. Yeah for many the plot of these games is super convoluted and weird, but it is enjoyable as hell.

Silent Hill 2 and 3 and SH shattered memories even though it came to the Wii first.

Any Legacy of Kain games has a really good story and there were a couple on PS2. Also liked the story for Shadow of Rome.

I enjoyed Yakuza 1 & 2 the most.

Legacy of Kain for me. Awesome gameplay mechanics and great story. The characters were very interesting too.

Personally for me it'd have to be MGS3. I loved the cutscenes and the gameplay and characters. To me it is the perfect videogame.
