The problem is while that is a nice idea, the Sonic series is and always has been written VERY BADLY along with terrible voice acting and this is why many of us don't care that much about the Sonic stories because they're just not done that well. Some have good ideas but terrible writing and voice acting doesn't exactly get one involved in the story very well.
What's your favorite by....
Look? shadow
Abilitys/Powers? tails

Most hated amy
The series would've been good if it weren't for Chris. And 4Kids.Hyper_Hedgehog
AMEN.
At least the president of that foul corporation didn't censor any of the important violence like Shadow's (presumed) death.
Or unimportant violence, for that matter.
Hey guys, just saying, a few days ago I remembered my friend had a bunch of older sonic games like Sonic Heros, Sonic Rivals, and stuff like that. I don't know if that's really "old", but still, I played them. And they are pretty cool! I have to admit! I remember like 3 years ago when I went to his house and played Shadow the Hedgehog (note It was the first, not including the Sonic the Hedgehog game I have for my iPod, Sonic game I've ever played) and I thought it was like the best game ever. But now I have new answers: (note, I played as Team Chaotix most of the time I played Sonic Heros)
Look? Espio
Abilitys/Powers? (still) Silver and Espio (I mean, a ninja!)
Personality: Sonic
Just 'cause: Sonic, Silver, Shadow (without guns :D) and Espio
I'm a new (sonic) man!
Now, I know what your thinking: "He's just lying so people will stop calling him a '10 year old emo kid.' Well, I'm 200% correct. And for the record, i'm 15. Geez...

Oh dear god... if you think that they're old...
I'm ancient!
You really should get a hold of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic 2, and Sonic and Knuckles. I know you can download the former 2 on the wii now. Granted, that stupid barrel is a fun killer, but still, it's an excellent game otherwise.sonicphc
does no one know how to get past that part but me? Once you get on the barrel, use the up and down arrows on the d-pad. It pulls it where it's supposed to go. Takes a few seconds. Problem solved.

I think I mentioned that somewhere in the union recently, but you aren't hte only one to figure that bloody barrel out. I still die due to time restrictions since the level is so long and slow paced with many hinderances.

yeah it takes me around the 7 min mark and i use 2p to beat up robotnik for quickness
Sonic 2 is def. the best out of those choices. Also there is no storyline to speak of. All you need to know is this:
Robotnik wants to destroy Mobius with the chaos emeralds. Sonic must find the chaos emeralds and stop Robotnik....that's it.
That's ALL that's required for a Sonic title to work.
ok. I'll look into the Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic and Knuckles. BUt I want to know before I waste Wii Points, which one's the best? I mean, more fun? And do they have a story line? Or is it just like the Sonic the Hedgehog game on my iPod where u just run to the end?pokemonsos
Well the original Sonic triliogy is a must play for all Sonic fans. Keep in mind, these came out back in the days before CG cutscenes so the story is more simplistic. As Whoozwah said, Eggman (in those days Robotnick) has captured animals, locked them in robots and it's up to Sonic to smash his way though the levels to stop him.
I'd recommend though saving money and trying to find a copy of the Sonic Mega Collection for the Gamecube because you can play that on your Wii and now it will only run you about $15 and you get the original trilogy, the Sonic and Knuckles add on features like playing as Knuckles in Sonic 2, and the Sonic 3 + Knuckles (the complete 3rd game), then there's so-so spinoffs of Sonic Spinball and Robotnick's Mean Bean Machine and avoid that god awful Genesis verson of Sonic 3D Blast. Also, if you find it and have the extra cash, there's also the Sonic Gems Collection but the only must play game on that is Sonic CD, maybe Sonic Triple Trouble and Tails's Adventure, the remainder are decent distractions at best.

ok, I went out and can't find Sonic Mega Collection for GC, so I'm gonna see if there's anything good for the Wii. Actually, I'm gonna go look right now...
ok, I see Sonic 2. Looks kinda cool 'cause it's multiplayer. So I'm gonna get it. But tomorrow though. Thanks for the suggestions! :D

I give you a rundown of the Sonic VC title and which ones are worth your time...
Sonic the Hedgehog (Gen.) This is where Sonic began. Keep in mind, this game is over 15 years old back before there were CG cutscenes and the story is pretty straighforward in that Robotnick (now Eggman) has kidnapped animals and trapped them in robots and it's up to Sonic to save them. It's just your standard run and jump gameplay. If you reach the end of the stage with 50 rings, there will be a huge ring you jump through to go to the special stage and collect the chaos Emerlds. And the Labyrinth Zone sucks!
Sonic 2: It is definitely the best and has slightly more story. This time Robotnick has built a Death Star-like fortress called the Death Egg and this was where Tails was introduced as well. The gameplay is more polished. It's easier to reach special stages because collecting 50 rings then hitting a checkpoint pole will take you to the much better designed 3D halfpipe special stage and this was also the introduction of Super Sonic (once you had all the emeralds). The two player mode isn't much. You have a series of 4 stages where one plays as Sonic and the other plays as Tails and you race, but in the single player game, hooking up a second controller lets a friend play as Tails (sort of) but they have to keep up with you. In the final battle Sonic has to fight the Metal Sonic prototype (as I like to call it)
Sonic 3: It actually picks up where #2 left off. After defeating Robotnick, his Death Egg crashes to Earth on Angel Island where Robotnick learns of the Master Emerald which he wants to use to repower his Death Egg so he tricks Knuckles into thinking that Sonic and Tails are thieves out to steal the Emeralds and Knuckles plays the villian in his debut. The game is good but I agree with everyone here that without the "Sonic and Knuckles" expansion it doesn't feel quite complete, but the game does let you choose to play either Sonic or Tails (and Knuckles with the expansion).
The others Spinball, Mean Bean Machine, 3D Blast and the Master System Sonic, aren't must haves and only buy them if you absolutely have to experience everything Sonic.

ok thanks! that's good to know from a true sonic fan! I'm gonna try to get Sonic 2 today. and good sums of the games!
Looks: Rogue the Bat.
Abilities: Knuckles. When I first played S3&K I also felt like knuckles could do anything! :P It was in SA1 when I really started to like Knuckles. In general, I love anything related to flying or gliding, so his gliding ability was a big win for me. His digging ability is quite uniuqe too. And of course his pure strength is always apprciated.
Personality: Sonic. :> Well, mostly the pre-Jason Griffith era. :p
Just because?: Shadow. Interestingly, I don't think he's a badass. I like him because he walks the line of good and evil.
Tails used to be my favorite character in general. I loved how brave he was, even though he wasn't super fast or super strong. He wasn't afraid to fight! He was almost as fast as Sonic, but his stages were still distinctly different from his. He was a suitable alternative. But after Heroes, Tails stopped being the brave little fox who was actually useful to Sonic, and turned into what amounted to a little kid, voice and all. All you ever hear from him now is " what are we going to do now?". I hate seeing Tails afraid or nervous like that. He just feels like dead weight lately. I hope Chronicles brings back the old Tails. =/
I'm afraid not.
Tails is a support character, so there will be no brave fighting from our two-tailed friend, unfortunately.
well...my fav. character is Shadow, all the way...but
what was it that made his game so bad?
i personally liked it...to an extent. to me the lack of speed was one of the reason, or better yet, the main reason, why i didnt nlike the game as much as i thought i would.
personally i am a fan of storyline games (not movie based games though) and i kinda liked the Shadow the hedgehog storyline...but like i mentioned earlier, the lack of speed was a big NO! for me.
however, the final battle was the challege i was looking for, still it would have been a lot better if it had had more speed...and stuff.
still shadow is still my fav. all the way!!!
Shadow easily, but I will say his own game wasn't all that great. Not as bad as some think, but not good enough for me.
Shadow is best as the dark Neutral/Hero character that everyone tends to not even care about until he shows up. the one that can take care of himself. the one that competes with Sonic and is known as the "Ultimate Life Form", not some crack job that struggles to remember his crap of a past and gets his own game to find out.
second prize goes to Sonic cause all he wants to do is go fast. and that jerk of a scientist always holds him back. By the way, why did they change Robotnik's name to Eggman, because of Gerald Robotnik, or because everything he creates is named Egg... or what?
