[QUOTE="johnnyblazed88"][QUOTE="Fuhgeddabouditt"]I want him to do good. The problem I think is the media. They have hyped him so much that if he doesnt win 10 superbowls, he fails. DJ_Magneto
thats his college career and for good reason his credentials have solidified him as 1 of the best of all time
but NFL wise everybody has their doubts on if his work ethic will be enough i know he wants to be great and wont let the distractions most other players do let get in the way, so i think he has a decent shot champ bailey says he's the first guy there last to leave throwing the ball with water boys when everybodys leaving
@Fuhgeddabouditt It's not just media hype. The Broncos have built in the hype by drafting him in the first round when not many really expected him to go that high. By drafting him that high, they are sending a message that they are going to be investing a lot on him. Stands to reason that he will eventually have considerable playing time, if not a starting position. Otherwise, why draft him so high? I'm sure there were other positions that could have been addressed. I know you're exaggerating with the 10 Super Bowls, but there is sure to be pressure in the future on both him and the Broncos, for him to at least play and contribute. @johnnyblazed88 It's not his work ethic that is put into question, it's his skill set. I think he's shown that he is willing to do whatever the team asks of him and more. And he's trying to eventually fill in as a leader on the team. Hard for him considering he was already a leader at Florida but loyalty from his NFL teammates may not be there initially if he's not on the field. He's not a pocket QB. His mechanics were not sound. And his style of play at Florida will not allow him to last very long in the NFL. He's not going to be bigger and faster than most defensive players like he was in college. I've got nothing against the guy. I root for him to succeed. We'll just have to wait and see if he can make the transition to being a successful NFL QB.Yeah that's pretty much it. I'm indifferent to him succeeding or not, but I personally don't think he will. Mike Mayock said something pretty interesting which I think is pretty true. You can work on your throwing motion and mechanics but through the course of a season, your body will always revert to the most natural and comfortable way of throwing. That being said, in the preseason game, I didn't see anything in his throwing motion that suggested that he's quickened his release. I know that fumbled was overturned, but that was lucky, and things like that will happen to him a lot if he continues to throw that way.
I did like the velocity on the balls he was throwing in the game, but he was playing against a soft defense so it wasn't that surprising. It's not as if he has no talent. But his throwing motion and his mechanics are just too much to overcome in my opinion. Moreover, he knows how short his release is. The only way he could succeed with a motion like that is with amazing pocket presence. He didn't feel the defender coming through the blindside (it's an important sixth sense to have for a lot of QBs to feel the pressure) and he didn't step up to give himself enough room to make his throw. Those are the nuances of playing in an NFL offense he has to develop to become a good QB. I just don't think he has the right skill set to do it.
