After spending countless hours on this board, it is obvious that it's time for another edition of everybody's favorite thread! This country is in a sad state of fanhood, where many people are rooting for random teams for no good reason. While the Patriots are as much to blame as anyone, the problem lies much deeper. So I'm back again to fix your misconceptions and false assumptions.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with how this works, it's very simple. You tell me where you live (and where you grew up if you think it's important), what teams you root for and why, and I tell you if you're a bandwagon fan. Nothing to it.

Just to clarify, my definition of bandwagon fan might be slightly different than yours. I consider a bandwagon fan anyone who picks a team for no reason, when he isn't from the area and doesn't have any connection to the team/city.

DISCLAIMER: This is just for fun. Please do not take offense to anything that is said in this thread. I will try to be lighthearted and good natured, but if you think you are going to be offended then please don't ask! Also, if you suspect yourself of being a bandwagon fan, then you probably are.

As usual, I'll start. Here are my teams, and my unbiased opinions as to whether I'm a bandwagon fan:

I grew up in Riverside, CA, which is 80 miles from LA. My dad is a HUGE Dodgers, Lakers, UCLA fan, as am I. I also love the LA Kings. I pretty much root for all things LA. I used to root for the Rams (again, my dad loves them), but when they left I was so upset that I dropped them. It didn't work out so well b/c they soon after won a SB. Oh well. I missed football after a few years so I decided to follow the only SoCal team left, the Chargers, in about 1999/2000. They were terrible at the time so it seemed harmless. I still love the Chargers to this day.

Analysis: The Dodgers, Lakers, Bruins, Kings are all very understandable. Not only do I have geographical ties to the teams, but my dad also loves them. Easy choices. The Chargers however, is a little more complicated. Some people might say that I should have stuck with the Rams, like my dad did, because I grew up watching them. But I couldn't bring myself to root for a team in St. Louis, especially one that deserted me. I hated them for it, and still to this day wish for another LA team to root for. Hopefully it will be the Chargers.

I also get extra points for not jumping on the Angels' bandwagon when they won the WS in 2002, and the USC bandwagon since they have been the greatest team on the planet for several years. Gotta stick with my teams, no matter how bad they are.

Fanhood score: 8.5/10

Lakers, Phillies, Eagles, Villanova(College basketball) I don't really pay much attention to college football. I'm a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, but I'm a Lakers fan because I've been for 12 years now... When my dad firstshowed me basketball, his favorite team was the Lakers, & that's been the team I've rooted for since I was 6.

This one's pretty straightforward. I commend you for sticking with your local Philly teams. I'm sure it's no surprise to you that I'm gong to say the Lakers' choice is questionable, but the fact that your dad roots for them mitigates the damage somewhat.

Live in NY

Back in 1997 I remember watching the SB and thinking "ummm o cool those GB guys are good,I like them". Yes, I jumped on their bandwagon because I knew nothing about football at the time.

After that I started getting into football and I stuck with GB, even today.

As for baseball, I am a Braves fan soley because I get TBS (which has Braves games on everyday).

Don't watch anything else.

Lived in Chicago all my life (20 years) and have been a fan of all the teams for as long as I could remember.

Die hard Bear fan, will stay with them through the bad (Remember the 90s anyone?) and the good. Even if I moved I would never cheer for another team, and i would pay extra for something like the NFL network to get Bears games.

I've also only missed 4 Bears games in 12 years.

You're confusing "Non-local" fan with "Bandwagon" fan. Bandwagon fans are bandwagon fans because they jump intoa giventeam's fanbase because, and for no other reason, the team's recent success (like a SB win.) Bandwagon fans can even be from the team's local area. The term "Bandwagon" fan is identical to "fair weather fan." They're identical.

Non-local fans arefans outside of a given team's local area, and why they choose to be fans don't necessarily have any-tie to said team's recent success.

I'm neither, but you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the meaning of the term "Bandwagon" fan.

Wow, this one is all over the place. You get some respect for admitting that you originally jumped on the GB bandwagon, but that only gets you so far. I kind of understand your Braves situation b/c I used to watch a lot of Cubs games on WGN growing up. BUT, that's not enough of an excuse to call them your favorite team. You have 2 teams in NY to choose from, what's wrong with them? I'm encouraged by your honesty, as that is the first step to recovery, but your score isn't going to be very good.

Mariners, Sonics, Seahawks. All commendable. No hockey teams are particularly close to you, so Ottawa is acceptable. Odd, but acceptable. I don't know much about soccer, so I can't really speak on the Arsenal choice. I'll just assume that you didn't pick them when they won it all or anything. Overall, nicely done.

Please see the first post. You obviously forgot to read the rules. I'll give you a hint: start with the section that says "my definition of the term 'bandwagon fan' may differ from yours". If you still disagree, feel free to make your own thread with your own rules. :8

OK, but your definition of bandwagon fan makes no sense, since it's already defined and everything (and it has nothing to do with where you live.)

I live in Colorado, and im a huge Avs fan. I have been an Avs fan since they moved here from Qubec in 96, love watching the Avs play, even though the team has changed drasically since the last stanley cup(joe sakic and hejduk are like the only ones left from that time). Been frustrating watching them as of late since both sakic and smyth are hurt, and our goalies are pretty meh. We have a young talented team(wolski, svatos, stastny). Team hasn't been the same since Roy left :(, hopefully Sakic doesn't retire this year.

- Born and raised in New York.

- Was a Yankees fan until the Red sox won the world series then Ijumped ship and became a Sawks fan. I also like the cardinals and white sox occasionally.

- I was a broncos fan for a couple of years in the 90's and now am a full fledged Pats fan (17-0 baby!).

- I was a Lakers fan for a while in the early 00's until I suddenly became a Spurs fan.

- In College sports I liked Duke basketball for a while then I became a Tar heel even though I go to NC state. I also consider myself a USC fan in football as well as LSU and Florida(in both sports).

Only the Avs, huh? No Rockies, Nuggets, or Broncos? That's interesting, but I can't really fault you for only liking hockey. The timing of the move to CO makes it look a little fishy, since they won the Cup right away, but that's not really your fault.

This one's obviously very straightforward. Not much to say here. But I would like to say that I never really thought you were a bandwagon fan, but b/c it angered you so much I thought it was fun to make it seem that way. Everyone in here knows how easy it is to press your buttons, which is why we press them so often.

As for your fanhood, I can certainly respect your loyalty to all of your local teams.

This is where things get complicated. For those of us that live in/near LA we have so many choices. Angels or Dodgers? UCLA or USC? Lakers or Clippers? Kings or Ducks? The important part is not which teams you choose, but that you stick with them. For example, if someone said they were a UCLA basketball fan but a USC football fan, that would be disgusting. Consistency is the key. The Raiders choice is a valid one b/c they were in LA, albeit for only 15 years or so. It's somewhat fishy that each team you chose is the more successful of the 2 (at least the Angels are in the short term), but that may just be a coincidence. Overall, very commendable.

There is always one of these answers in every new edition of "ask murlow". I originally scored it very well for originality, but the novelty has worn off. You sir, should be ashamed.

Score: 1.0 (1 point for the effort)

I'd like to point out you said "The Patriot's to blame as much as anyone". You should have pointed out the large=st band wagon team in the history of sports is the NYY.

well i was raised in new mexico (we have no pro teams) and my dad was born an raised in milwalkie wiscounsin so hes a packers fan when the pats were in the super bowl i rooted for the pats just to piss off my dad (iwas only like 10 at the time) and i have stuck with them ever since i evn have a old ben coates jersey and a faded terry glenn jersey!!! well whats my score?dNbPunk
Depending on where you live in NM, it is likely a region that roots for either Texas teams or Arizona teams. That being said, regardless what region you fall into, it's very alarming that you would root against your dad's team just to piss him off. And the fact that you stuck with the Pats after that "prank" is even worse. At first I was hoping that this was some kind of joke, but I'm afraid that it's not. Without knowing what other teams you root for (if any), your score will suffer greatly.

Score: 2.0

Note: your score will raise if you are still a "big" Pats' fan in 10 years when they stink again. Until then, the score stands.

I did point that out, but a little more subtly. See the 5th post on the 3rd page.

it wasnt really a prank i was just going for the underdogs in that game and while watching it i got to like the way they played my fav player was ty law, and by the way i was only ten so it was one of my first times watching and understanding football, i still like the lobos and refuse to root for texas teams like the cowboys because they were still doing good back then and i didnt want to be a "bandwagoner" but anyways the pats have had horrible seasons since the packers pats bowl and i have still stuck with them

A Lebron James jersey? Allow me to adjust your score. It goes up for the Lobos, then back down for Lebron.

Adjusted score: 3.5
