I certainly love the Boston Red Sox rivalry with the New York Yankees. But I wonder, is it pushed down our throat by the media *cough* ESPN *cough* due to their eastern base (Bristol, Connecticut primary location).

Does the rest of the Baseball world care about this rivalry? Why or why not?

Why would you even ask this? This is the best rivalry if someone doesn't like then don't watch it.

I love the rivalry and I'm not a fan of either team though I'm more fond of the Yankees than the Sox.

Not in the slightest. Hence, why I watch CSN Bay Area significantly more than ESPN.

Yes it is shoved down our throat, but thankfully we now have MLB Network. I did back in the day, i wanted to see the Sox beat the Yanks but now i'm more interested in the Rays, man are they off to a hot start! Wouldn't it be great if they win the division! My bro is a bandwagon Sox fan, me and my cousin are rooting for the Blue Jays to take 3rd place

Why? Recently those matchups didn't even matter as both teams would be in the postseason? If it's postseason i would watch.

Rivalries are great:

lakers vs celtics

duke vs carolina

ohio state vs michigan

the reason red sox vs yankees is getting less relavent is ebacuse they play each other sooooooooooooooo many times each year

its rediculous how many nyy.vs.bos games are on the schedule

i care if its the playoffs, or the end of the seaosn fighting for division but aside from that not really

I guess they are kind of fun to watch, more fun than seeing the Blue Jays play the Indians. But since I watch probably about 100 Mets games a year, I get kind of sick of baseball and hardly ever watch other teams play.

I couldn't care less about the Red Sox vs Yankees series because I dislike both teams and like someone else mentioned, they play a ton during the season and it's very early in the MLB season so these games don't seem that big. If you are a fan of them though, great, I can see why you would be interested. I'm not a fan of them and so don't care about it.

We don't need threads like this. If you want nothing but NYY vs, Boston coverage/topics, head to ESPN or just read a Peter Gammons column. Apparently those are the only teams that exist on that network.

Besides, I respect teams that don't buy their way to a championship. If any league is in dire need of a hard salary cap, it's MLB.

There is one thing i thank the Yankers for, 7 game mini-plans now available and being tied in with that series against the Dodgers. $70 Top Deck or $120 Reserve.

It's easy to understand why they get so much coverage: they have more fans, which equals more viewers for the networks.

As far as salary caps go, baseball really doesn't need one. History has shown that you can't buy a championship. Having money allows you to make mistakes with fewer long-term consequences, but you still have to put together a good team. Look at the Mets, they spend tons of money, and are never in the playoffs. Conversely, the Marlins have won two World Series on a budget.

If you really want more parity in baseball, put a salary floor in place. Keep teams like the Pirates and Royals from having firesales every year.

Salary floor and cap, the only ones opposed are fans of those elite spending teams. These past few years it has become more obvious that teams are buying championships, Marlins are a great story but they are the exception to the rule. For the long haul they need one for the sport to survive in smaller markets.

Too true. Even if certain teams don't make it to the World Series, they are ALWAYS in the hunt because of the money they are able to spend on players. It's ridiculous.

lol you know some teams with low salaray caps have the richest owners but they are just cheap. To hate on the Steinbrenner's(i doubt i spelled it right) because they are dedicated to there team is lol worthy. And i laugh even more when people say the yankees bought there World Series

Cough, Cough---look at the ratings, and see why it's pushed by ESPN. They cater to the numbers, not to the minority. Quit calling it eastern bias---this is how business works. [QUOTE="Mister__Awesome"]

It was more to the point of over $300,000,000 in contracts to two players in the same offseason.

In what way? The Giants are starting to get back into playoff contention, and the hate between both the teams and fans will never die. Just because the yanks-red sox rivalry is the most hyped one, doesn't mean other rivalries don't exist. I doubt fans of the cubs/cards and mets/phillies would agree with your thinking either. Hell, it's arguable that the other rivalries are more fun seeing as how one sided the yanks-red sox one is.

i do care, but sox yanks games in april, may and even june? not so much, unless the standings are close, but this year with the sox playing like crap, and the yankees and rays playing out of their minds, its hard to even get excited about these games. on top of that these games feel like they go on for like 5 hours, it gets annoying at times

I'd care about Red Sox vs Yankees if it were September, the Mariners were chasing the Wild Card, and the outcome of Bos/NYY influenced the Wild Card standings. Otherwise, no I don't care.

Well it doesn't matter as much to me as it did in the past because the Red Sox had arguably the biggest comeback in history of sports against them in the '04 ALCS. I mean it still matters to me because its Red Sox and Yankees, but I also believe the way the MLB sets up the games between these two the past few years has kind of taken back the excitement for the series. Theyplayway too early and way too late in the season now. Really what I'm getting at is at the end of the day when these teams are playing it is in meaningless games.

I read that article, too. Solid choice for #1. The reason Yanks/Red Sox was #2 was this: for such a long time, it was so one-sided. The hammer and the nail is not a rivalry.

I like watching Yanks/Red Sox. If they broadcast more Dodgers/Giants I would enjoy that, too. Also Cards/Cubs. Those three rivalries are the best in baseball.

Please its like this in every state. If your team sucks who is going to want to watch 'em. I'm sure Pittsburgh has fans rolling right in to watch the Pirates. I suggest you come out to Mass during baseball season or any sport season for that matter and you will see that you have passionate fans out here. I mean hell the Sox haven't even play half a season of baseball and you have every fan calling sports radio claiming the world is going to end. To say that Boston wouldn't like their teams if they weren't as good as they have been is foolish. Don't get me wrong there are pink hats out here, not doubt, but Boston is a great sports city fans included.

The Boston Garden was deserted in 2007. You guys are probably the biggest fairweather city in sports.
