Ali isn't the greatest boxer of all time, Suger Ray Robinson is.

Also better than Ali: Henry Armstrong, Willie Pep.

You mean Cassius Clay.

Mike Tyson in his prime was pretty close.

Anybody who knows anything about boxing knows that Ali wasn't the best boxer ever. The only reason we think that nowadays is cause all we see is highlights of him saying "i'm the greatest". It gets beaten into your head over and over again until it becomes 2nd nature to think that way. You go to any credible boxing analyst/historian (ie., Bert Sugar) and look at their list, more often than not Sugar Ray Robinson is on top. Then you'll see a lot of lists with Henry Armstrong at number 2. It's a toss up on whether or not Ali was even the greatest Heavyweight of all time, let alone greatest boxer overall. There are a lot of people who put Joe Louis ahead of Ali. And that's often a great debate. But what's not debatable is Ray Robinson at number 1

I always thought that Ali would have out boxed Tyson. I think that Ali would have been smart enough to avoid Tyson's early knockout attempts and just wear him down. Once it gets past the 6th round, Ali would have dominated and frustrated Tyson. If Tyson didn't knock you out in the first 1or 2 rounds and you made him actually box, he wasn't that great of a boxer.

Muhammad Ali himself said that the best pound for pound boxer was Sugar Ray Robinson. I agree. Sugar Ray Robinson is the best all time.

He's not even the best of this generation. That title goes to B-Hop who just became the oldest champion in boxing history tonight.

The G.O.A.T. is Sugar Ray Robinson. As someone already said when you talk to people who are in boxing, experts, and know the sport well, he is almost always #1. You can go watch his fights on youtube and see for yourself. He fought 200 times so there's plenty to see.

Also as much as I love Tyson, he is not better than Ali. He'll tell you that himself. Ali had way MORE heart.

I remember the 30 for 30 where Joe Louis says he was a better fighter, just came around at the wrong time, i wonder what TEddy Atlus would say.

Gotta go with Sugar Ray Robinson as the greatest also,...dazzling footwork, speed in both hands, knockout power in both hands, heart, stamina, longevity,...etc.

In Ali's defense, a good portion of his prime was taken up when he was banned from boxing, before that he was amazing with a similar skill set as Robinson and would have only gotten better. To be honset I can't think of another heavyweight that could catch him or avoid being hit by him, I think he would beat them all.

So I'd have to go with Ali 2nd...but only because I didn't get to see much of Pep, Armstrong and others, so no discredit to them
