I dont know what your talkin about, closers arent overrated. I would compare them to a kicker in football. When its clutch time you need one to get the win. You cant tell me Papelbon, k-Rod, Putz, Jenks, Nathan......are all overrated

I agree, there is no way they're overrated. Someone like Papelbon or Rivera are exceptional pitchers, with the ability to consistently shut down a team for the last inning in close games.

Agreed. Closers are a very specific job in baseball (and a young position since closers used to be for 7th 8th and 9th innings) They are bulls who are trained to go out there and pitch with all their strength behind every pitch, unlike starters and Middle releivers who are taught to pitch with less force to conserve energy so they dont tire out fast.

Papelbon, k-Rod, Putz, Jenks, and Nathan are all overrated.

Here's a bit of trivia for you: the top three relievers in VORP last year were Rafael Betancourt, Heath Bell, and Matt Guerrier. The three of them combined for only 6 saves.

The setup man and the bullpen is way underrated - starter gets the win, closer gets the save which is highlighted on sports shows. But the hold is rarely ever mentioned. Wasnt till recent the all star game gave one player from each league that credit and a spot on the team.
