Who do you think will win this showdown? These are two of my fav fighters and i cant wait for this fight!

I think people are not giving BJ enough respect and that it will be a very close fight.

Its hard for me to pick one of them to root for in this fight. But with all the hate and disrespect Penn has been getting, i have to go for the underdog!

GO BJ!! WAR PENN!!! (yes im a canadian not going for GSP haha). Enjoy both fighters the same amount, but like i said, i feel like BJ isnt getting enough respect.

Both are two of the best fighters around and there last fight was very close. This should be a great fight!

I think GSP has the cardio advantage, while Penn is better on the ground and has more experience. They are even in power imo.

Post your predictions!

GSP. This fight, imo, is utterly pointless and shoudl not be happening. I realize that i'm the one person who's not all that hyped for this, but frankly, i didn't find the judge's decision the first time all that controversial. GSP won the later two rounds while Penn won the first. People are just hung up on how GSP looked more visibly cut up than Penn, but so what? Also, people say Penn is a different fighter, an improved fighter, but is he? He's always had heavy hands, a fast jab, and amazing bjj.....but it was always his gas tank that crumpled and held him back. That exactly what happened in GSP/Penn I, Penn was using all his gifts, but then he gassed and lost. Penn has been dominant lately because he's not been gassing and hence has been able to fully use all of his. That said, the only reason he's not been gassing is because he's gone back down to fight at his natural weight at 155 and looks much more trim at 155. It's not that he's miraculous developed cardio, he just dropped a weight class. Too bad this fight is back at 170....and we've not seen Penn at 170 in quite a while, and there's no reason to think he won't gas again. He has great natural abilities and these natural abilities obviously shine at hsi natural weight. In a fantasy world where giant WW GSP would fight Penn at 155, i may be singing a different tune, but as it stands, this will be 170 Penn, not 155 Penn. There is no "improved Penn," just the lightweight and the welterweight iterations of him. Also, the reason i'm not thrilled by this match is that, while it does have a lot of hype and should happen if people really do feel the first decision to be controversial, it totally postpones two exciting matches in Penn/Florian and GSP/Alves, with both Florian and Alves being legit threats. I know the fights will happen sooner or later, i just see no reason why two very deserving and exciting no. 1 contenders shouldn't get their respective fights. I know Dana wouldn't want Penn or GSP to lose and make this rematch impossible (particularly if it's GSP who loses, as i can't see him fighting for the 155 title), but still. Also, what the hell has Penn done at 170 to earn a title shot? Then again, it's the UFC in 2008-9, i guess i shouldn't talk about people "deserving" title shots in a year where Frank Mir got a title shot and won after submitting a fighter with almost no experience, or where Brock Lesnar got a shot at the title and won after doing nothing but lose to Frank Mir and beat Heath "gatekeeper" Herring. Or why Fabricio Werdum didn't get a title shot before either man.....or why Yushin Okami STILL isn't getting a titleshot despite only missing it due to injury. Instead he got to fight Lister, and even after winning again, Thales freaking Leites gets a shot first? What? Sorry, I'm ranting. I just think the UFC is going a bit bonkers lately.

I dissagree with your opinion about the first BJ and GSP fight.

I saw the fight live and had money on GSP to win. At the time i wasnt that big of BJ fan, and i was fully cheering for GSP in that fight. But BJ won my respect after that fight. I was sitting there cheering for GSP and yet BJ surprised the heck out of me. I was surprised when i thought BJ won the first round, GSP the 2nd and to be honest i couldnt pick a winner in the 3rd round of that fight. I said to my buddy after the fight ended "I wouldnt want to be a judge for this fight". Its rare that i cant pick a winner for a fight, but that night i could notpick a winner. GSP was one of my fav fighters at the time and BJ was a fighter who i knew had alot of talent but i wasnt a big fan of. He defiantly earned my respect that fight (for a 2nd time).

I do agree with you on the UFC being a bit to crazy lately, but then again we are in a recession and Dana White is just trying to get some contraversy to sell more tickets i guess. Of course i could do without all the trash talking and drama, as real mma fans know who the fighters are and dont really need or want all the trash talking, etc. Ive only met GSP before and no BJ, but they both seem like really good people who love there family and have great values, despite what you might see right before a fight. ANd dont get me started on Silva (the guy who selects the fights).

I do still enjoy Dream/Pride more then UFC, but i cant front, i love MMA and when two of the biggest stars in mma atm are going at it, i gotta see that hehe.

Either way these are two of my all time fav figthers going at it. So ill be a happy camper on saturday no matter who wins. :)

If it goes the distance i think GSP will have the advantage in round 4 and 5 and thats the way i see him winning, by rounds and having more energy later on. As much as i enjoy watching GSP fight, hes not knocking out BJ this fight. (BJ has never quit or been knocked out from punches in his career). If Bj wins i think it will be a submission win or ko though (Serra made GSP tap out from punches in there first fight, and BJ is 10000 times a better fighter then Serra, so i hope GSP isnt looking past BJ like he did to Serra).

As far as BJ being better then when they last fought, i personally think both GSP and BJ are much better fighters now then when they fought last. GSP has been training with the gracie camp in Brazil last year, along with learning other new stuff and is much more versatile now. BJ is more powerful now then he was before and hes in better shape.

*shrug* I still think that GSP had the third round, and i don't get why people find that so difficult. Then again, perhaps the very fact that you and me disagree just goes to show that there IS that controversy. Split decision, indeed. Again, listen to what you just said about BJ being a better fighter though. "He's in better shape." He was in better shape because he dropped to 155 and hence was a lot more cut (for BJ anyway) and had better cardio. There's no reason to think that that'll carry over to 170....at all. So much of his being in better shape was due to his fighting at his natural weight. Meanwhile, GSP is, as you said, better than he was last time. I think his wrestling has improved as well. I also think that GSP will never take an opponent for granted again after Serra. It was a hard lesson, but one that he had to learn. Agreed with you though on rounds 4-5. That's trouble for BJ. I think the key for GSP here is to use his wrestling and grind away, Hendo/Lindland style, where BJ will have gassed. Only thing is that he's gotta watch out for submissions.

Something broke in GSP when he lost to Serra, he has been unstoppable ever since, I suspect that BJ Penn will be no more than an ant in a magnifying glass in the sun to him. GSP TKO 2nd Round.

I still think if GSP hadn't tripped, he would have beat Serra. Nevertheless, I got GSP by TKO in second round.

That loss was the best thing that could have happened to him. Failure is a necessary stepping stone to greatness; it humbles you and reminds you never to take anything for granted, especially since that loss really shouldn't have happened. In other words, GSP grew up.

I never understand posts like this. Why come into this thread, let alone post in it if you hate UFC and don't care about it? Why vote in a poll where you can't even name either fighter? Way to go 23,000 post count.

Gonzaga took Cro Cop's soul, and then Kongo and Overeem destroyed his nuts. It must be hard for Cro Cop now. There is talk of him having his last fight this year in the UFC and then retiring. Hopefully UFC 100 would be a nice place to have that match.

I prefer BJ to GSP because he has a personality though it comes off wrong at times, and GSP bores me and is just a walking cliche, you heard one interview with him youve heard every one he will ever do. But in a fight with a great small man against a great big man Ill go with the great big man everytime. GSP is a fighter that I think could fight at 185 and still hold his own strengthwise and also still be in great shap. BJ is a guy who outside of lightweight has never looked in great shape. BJ earned a reputation for gassing in his fights outside of LW. BJ is a LW who seems to hate to fight there for some reason. Its hard to see BJ ever getting smoked in a fight so I think he'll be competitive but lose by late TKO or by decision. It also wouldnt shock me at all if BJ won because he absolutely is that good. And if BJ did win and was the best at 155 and just beat the best fighter at 170, and another top 5 p4p fighter, he really would have atleast a legit argument as being p4p #1. GSP beating a LW at his weightclass, even if its BJ, does not look as impressive. Its kind of a no win situation for GSP really outside of him getting to shut BJ up. SHould be an exciting fight though.

The same thing was said after he lost to hughes. "That loss changed him", "He's an angry fighter now" "He'll never lose again" then he went out and got embarrassed by Serra. In MMA anything can happen, even GSP getting his third loss, and he will, I just dont think its going to be any LW right now, even the best one.

Since no one else has mentioned it..... Despite being a big Penn fan, i find it very hard to actually want him to win in this one, simply because it's for the WW title. While Penn making history is great and all, having one guy hold two belts has never been good. It makes for WAY less title defences and locks everything up. With Penn's love of 170 (God knows why), I'd feel bad for the lightweight division.

God i cant wait for this fight :)

WAR Penn! WAR GSP!8)

I cant belive people are saying GSP in the 2nd round by TKO. Do people not know that Penn has never been knocked out from punches or quit?

I will be very surprised if either fighter gets a TKO in the first or 2nd round, but who knows. I just cant see either fighter tapping out (BJ ive never seen tap out from punches and GSP ive only seen once, neither fighter will give up! hehe)

Yeah, i guess he didn't really get knocked out by Matt Hughes, the ref just stepped in because Hughes could've punched him from that position indefinitely.

I agree with you, but I really think that it would be bad for the UFC if Penn won. We'd see way fewer title defences for the Lightweights and Welterweights, two solid divisions talent-wise.

I agree man, i respect both these guys so much, although i will be cheering for BJ, only because hes the underdog and i feel people arnt giving him the respect he deserves. Would do the same thing probably if GSP was the underdog.

honestly, i think an early round knockout (which is always a big possibility in MMA) would really be a disappointment in this fight. I want an all out, drawn-out war

i second that. Im also in the minority, that want to see this fight, but not for the title. BJ having 2 titles is a horrible idea, horible horiible idea. If BJ wins how long do we have to wait for him to defend the titles? 3-5 months for LW then 3-5 more months for WW, its ludicris to not have a title defended for 6-8 months at a time.

Now that was a great ppv. Although i though the DIAZ/GOUDA fight was a bad call, i thought Diaz won.

Also it was GREAT to seee Machida win in such fashion, because ive been sick and tired of people saying Machida is boring and sucks. He is the man and will have the title soon imo.

As for the pain fight, it went into th e4th or 5th round as i expected, and GSP was to much for BJ to handle. GSP is a freak of nature and he showed it tonight, complete domination. 2 of my all time fav fighters going at it, couldnt as for much more. GSP proved he is hte better fighter of the 2 and BJ gave it his all to hang in there.

Anyone else really surprised about the Diaz decision from the judges?

Everyone i was watching the fight with thought Diaz won, even people who where neutoral or Gouda fans thought Diaz won.

Overall it was a good ppv imo and 100% times better then last one.

[QUOTE="Mkavanaugh77"][QUOTE="jus2nyce"]GSP the is undisputed Welter Weight Champ! Penn was not ready for him at ALL, I'm surprise how much GSP dominated on the ground.indian_playa

End of round 4, BJ was pretty beat up and the Docter ADVISED BJ's corner (his trainer and his brother) to end the fight.Penn showed some guts staying in there and taking the hits he did. But GSP was to much to handle. First round was close, but 2nd,3rd and 4th rounds where ALL GSP.

I wasn't surprised by the Guida/Diaz decision. Dont get me wrong, if it went to Diaz, i wouldn't've complained; the fight was pretty close. That said, i scored it myself as 29-28 Guida by a hair. Aside from that one nasty stand-up portion (what the hell were Guida's corner thinking telling him to go out and strike with a guy with that huge a reach advantage?), Guida really controlled the pace of the fight and controlled Diaz.

Only exciting thing was Machida getting a KO. GSP dominated, which was another hyped up match up...typical UFC tho. Also I had Diaz winning that fight too.

Good card. If Machida isn't the next for a title shot I honestly don't know what to say. Hell, he should have had the title shot before the last advertisment...er, I mean Forest/Rashad match.

PS: Dana sucks.

Unless he changes his mind, Dana has already said winner of Rampage/Jardine is next in line for a shot, which is complete BS. Also problematic, since Jardine has said he won't fight Rashad....i mean, odds are against him winning, but still.
