M v. O

This Saturday night Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. will meet "Vicious" Victor Ortiz in the ring for Ortiz's WBC Welterweight belt. Floyd is putting his undefeated record on the line against a younger, stronger tough fighter. Ortiz had his heart questioned earlier in his career, but I think he is past that and has a lot of hunger and determination to be great now.

That being said, Floyd is the best in boxing right now. Until somebody beats him I am always going to pick him as the winner. Really not much to say that isn't already known about him...all time great boxing skill, acumen and defense. I think Ortiz can make this competitive and have a chance to win. He is bigger, stronger and can hurt Floyd if he is able to get him.

I am just unsure he will be able to hit Floyd consistently to win rounds or do damage. If Floyd gets careless, though, Ortiz can catch him with a big shot. That's a big if, but it can change the fight if Ortiz is able to hurt him and put on the pressure. We shall see.

So who's watching it and what do you think happens?

The only time now I watch boxinf is when Pacman and Mayweather fight. I reallywant to see Mayweather get knocked out.

Also he should fight Pacman before he gets too old. Boxing is a dying sport, no one really knows the champions of the weight divisions.

MMA in my opinion is taking over and people can name more MMA fighter than boxers still fighting today.

Well, I'm at least interested in seeing what happens with this fight. Don't know anything about Ortiz or really any other boxers outside of Mayweather and Pacman...shame, boxing is dying or has all but died.

Once people saw hoe hardcore the fights are in UFC they just got bored with boxers with giant gloves going at it for 12 rounds.

People wanna see beatdowns, KnockOuts, Submissions, and blood. And it has to happen any second.

Boxing can't deliver on that since Tyson.

Most bars still have a cover charge. So you end up spending money regardless.

NO. But I will give Scareweather the credit of not choosing some bum to make his comeback fight.

I'm not "giving" him anything. I'm buying a sporting event, a great one at that. Don't be a hater.

And MMA is a joke compared to boxing. Let me rephrase the UFC is a joke compared to boxing.

Who's better? He has the best defense, at least top 3 fastest hands, top notch conditioning, the best boxing acumen and is very accurate with his punches. Floyd is undefeated and while not facing every boxer possible, he has fought some really good fighters throughout his career and has been since he was young. Proffesional boxers are not scared to fight. It's what they do.

I can't wait see this fight. Ortiz is rarely in a dull fight, and if Floyd is aggressive like he said he would be, this should be a great fight.

Mayweather usually walks down southpaws, and Ortiz doesn't back up, ever. I expect a toe to toe fight. Mayweather getting the best of it due to better hand speed and defense. Mayweather by KO 10 round.

My family is actually from the United States, but my great grandfather (the father of my father's father) was from Barcelona. That would mean my ancestors were from the Catalonia region. Why you ask?

This is a topic about the fight and not me though, so who do you like in the fight?

This could be a very interesting fight because the knock on Floyd for years and even Pac for the past 3-4 years is that they have fought big "name" fighters who are often well past their prime and not the young hungry up and comers. Pac fought Cotto and that was really it. I mean Mayweather has fought the likes of Gotti, Delahoya, Mosley, Hatton and Marquez. All of which were big "names" but long past their primes, or in Hatton's case, just not an elite fighter to begin with. And Pac's recent fight history is similar. Floyd is in his mid 30's and seems to fight once every 18 months and at some point that will catch up to him. He's fighting a guy younger, bigger, stronger and with more to prove, so maybe that time is now. We'll see

I think I heard Mayweather is supposed tomake about 30 Million from this fight. That's about 30x more than any UFC fighter gets in a fight. Anyway, boxing is not dead but it does need some bigger names or ultimate fights which is what we see more often in UFC but not by any means every month. Boxing also needs some better undercards. Which they do at times but not often enough.

Boxing is not dead. There are plenty of good to great fighters currently. They just don't get enough exposure.

you guys should be hoping for an Ortiz win. I was reading this article that made some good points. I agree that Mayweather cares more about his record then the money he would receive from the Pac fight which would be something like 50 mil or even 60 mil. If he loses to Ortiz he will definitely rematch him, beat him and then feel like he has to face Pac to retain his "greatest ever" title that he has in his mind. If he beats Ortiz I don't think we're ever going to get a match between him and Pacquiao

What was BS was the headbutt. Ortiz got what he deserved. Mayweather was dominating the fight either way.

What Ortiz did was illegal, what Mayweather did was legal, yet everyone is mad at Mayweather and applauding Ortiz? Am I the only one confused here?

either way Ortiz was going to lose later so it doesn't really matter. Ortiz was so frustrated he wasn't landing anything because Mayweathers impeccable defense he decided to be an idiot and headbutt. oh well, this kind of sucks and we'll never get to see a match between him and pacquiao now

Mayweather is a coward and a dirty fighter that is scared to fight Pacman. He will never be considered one of the greatest because you dont need to resort to sucker punches to win if you are one of the greatest of all time.

Boxing has no honor in it anymore. You would never see that kind of cheap shot in UFC (*daley is an excpetion but it was after the fight). Boxing is a dying sport and it is filled with cowards and showmen not warriors.

*And Daley got banned from the UFC for life after that incident.

Even though what Mayweather did was perfectly legal, it still looks really bad. Yes, Ortiz was wrong for head butting, but winning by a sucker punch just seems like a giant middle finger to all the paying fans. It also promotes that Mayweather is still a punk. but I don't think him or his fans really care. If boxing was trying to regain it's popularity and relevance, this fight did not help at all.

Whether Mayweather fights Pacqiaio will all be determined how Pacquiao fights against Marquez in November. If Paquaio looks sharp with his speed and power, there is a big chance that Mayweather will continue to aviod him. If Pacquio looks like he is older and looks clumsy--like the Mosely fight--then Mayweather will probably step up.

Legal sucker punch. Bad sportmanship but Ortiz must protect himself at all times.. Kind of bad all alround. Only good thing is if there ever is a Pac/ May fight... won't be any touching gloves lol.

Real talk its a dog eat dog world... The lesson to be learned here is never try and hug somebody during a fight... Especially after you just gave them a cheap shot... And MMA sucks by the way... I'd rather watch this than two men lay on eachother for 25 minutes... I really enjoy when one guy is on the ground on his back looking like he's ready for an anal session while the other guy is throwing kicks at him...

All I know is.. Ref was still in discussion with whoever outside the ring, don't even know if the fight really had come out of timeout, Ortiz went to hug for the mistake, GAME OVER... KO replay. Just a BAD way to end a fight.

floyd is so good at getting his opponent frustrated, although ortiz was doing good on that round but very amateurish boy, and he should know not to trust floyd, floyd did the same thing to mosley, cheap shotting him while he was acting like a sportsman
