All I know is.. Ref was still in discussion with whoever outside the ring, don't even know if the fight really had come out of timeout, Ortiz went to hug for the mistake, GAME OVER... KO replay. Just a BAD way to end a fight.

i5750at4Ghz

That was no mistake.

lol.. It was a mistake.. Ortiz never should have done it. It was a illegal hit and a mistake to do on his part out of frustration. No, it was not a "accident" but def a mistake for Ortiz to do out of frustration. All i know is, horrible way to end the fight.

Oh I have no question Ortiz was in trouble after the rounds. Still, that is one horrible way to end the fight. Thats bad referreing, a lack of sportmanship, and horrible thinking on Ortiz part (this is not the first boxxer Mayweather has unloaded on after a touchglove/hug)... That was some dangerous hits. Atleast Ortiz didn't lose more then his pride on those vicious hit straight to jaw and face.

He did and he was cla$$less the moment after Ortiz looked away. At least let the ref clear the fight.

The ref did. He was like lets go. I was watching the British stream and heard it clear as day. It wasn't a cheap shot at all. The only cheap shot was the HEADBUTT BY ORTIZ.

The ref wasn't even watching them.

I wouldn't be surprsied if the referee, Cortes, will never ref another huge boxing match ever again, and that's will Ortiz fans will take their stance. Untill an authetic look if Cortes really did say continue to fight, then the contraversy will roll. Even if he did say continue to fight, it should have been Cortes job to put both fighters in the neutral zone and stand between them so no fighting would be done under Cortes--who as cleary still talking to someone outside the ring. Honsetly, if Cortes had the guts, he could have disqualifed Mayweather giving him his first lost because cleary he didn't know what was going on either. Cortes will, of course, cover his own behind and say that the punches was legal because if they weren't, the blame would go on him.

No matter how you look at it, it's a crummy, awful fight.

We're not blaming Mayweather for his actions but he could at least let the ref clear them out before sucker punching Ortiz.

That video skips a chunk of time. Even the ring side judge thought it was legal.

It was a horrible ref move that lead to a catastrophic lolness of a ending. Ref called time in but then went to talk to the side judge and kept talking to him. In that time, Ortiz went to hug/touch gloves and sec later, blasted in the face. Whats even crazier, the ref in teh ring had no idea what happened so looks back at the side judge who is actually giving the count. The confusion on it all is pretty lol full vid of hilarity High probability that ref never does a big fight again. As I said earlier, nothing Mayweather did was illegal, just cheap but also Ortiz should have known better and refs were horrible.

Oh man can't wait to see the video of this, Merchant should have knocked him out! :) Pacman should sandbag it so he takes the fight. Muffincakes wth is your sig?? Ok, both sides are right, yes it's legal and i can't blame um after getting a cheap shot to himself, but yah it's obvious the guy was still apologizing and wasn't ready to re-start so it's good fuel for all of us Floyd haters. What i really like is the peeps who paid for it though after we were saying not to and got ripped off  It's sad what boxing has become they need to get it together, the UFC knows how to do it right. I don't see how you can blame the ref though, protect yourself at all times, that cute stuff is nice if you know you have a respectable opponent but you were doing it too much with a guy who unsurprisingly takes advantage of it to knock you out....dumb move.

I agree, the ref did fine. You can also see Mayweather protecting himself after the fight starts again, Ortiz has his hands down. It's too big of a fight for that. They already touched gloves during the break. Bad fight, Mayweather was cheap but legal. That's the way it goes. Ortiz let his emotions get to him.

Merchant>Scareweather. Fact.Master_Live

Larry Merchant has always talked down to Floyd Mayweather so that reaction was expected by Floyd. He is right about Merchant. Merchant used to do the same crap to Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.

Ortiz got what he had coming. You never apologize in the manner that he did or kiss your opponent without expecting that kind of backlash especially from Mayweather. He should have never left his hands down. They both were acting on emotion.

Joe Cortez shouldn't have been ref for the fight. After the break both fighters should have been told to go to opposite corners, and then he should have signaled them to fight when ready. Cortez looked clueless in there. He's done a crappy job in the last few big fights he's been in.

All this does is give Floyd haters more reason to hate and hope that Manny Pacquiao can beat him. It only increases the demand for that fight even more. My only question is what will people say when Floyd beats Pacquiao...for him to fight Martinez?

As much as people hate Floyd, they can't deny how great he truly is. He's the best in boxing and more than likely will be considered the best of this era.

And Mike Tyson + Roy Jones were another pair of Chumps, rightfully so, Fact! Also i never liked that Sugar Ray Leonard either, watching legendary nights Hagler whooped his ass but with his cheap little "flurries" that pretty boy got the victory, freakin weak!

How great was that? Fighting guys when they're washed up? He's the boxing equivalent of the BCS, beat up a bunch of cupcakes in the regular season and then get voted into the "championship"

You saying Mike tyson and Roy Jones are a pair of chumps voids your opinion on this subject.

This is all on Ortiz. He used an illegal blow, and apologizes by hugging Floyd and touching gloves. Then, after both fighters went to opposite corners and the ref signaled them to continue, he touches gloves AGAIN and tries to hug AGAIN!. Excessive and unnecessary. Then he's stupid enough not to defend himself and gets clocked. I don't fault Floyd at all. Why should he show mercy (or, if you prefer, courtesy) to this guy by not whacking him immediately when he just got headbutted? You see when Ortiz tried to hug the second time Floyd's first reaction was to put his guard up, Ortiz showed his inexperience by not protecting himself.

I need to see whole 4th round, head butt and all to form a better opinion. But the short video I did see on youtube before it was removed indicates that Ortiz was not thiking clearly.

You have your hands down Mayweather taps you with a left jab and you don't immediatly react by putting your guard up???? Seems like that should be a reflex reaction for a trained boxer whether you thought time was in or not. Mayweather drops the hammer a 1/2 second later with your hands still completely down???? That's on you Ortiz. (Anybody think the fix was in?)...just asking.

Love or hate Mayweather that guy has been a brilliant tactician, ring general, defensive master and overall great boxer throughout his career. Like most I'd love to see him and Pacman go at it before their skills erode. Hopefully it will happen.
