Wow I cannot believe the high standards experts and people alike have put on the Celtics. ESPN and Yahoo Sports has them taking the eastern conference... are you kidding me? They have 3 players who averaged around ~23 points per game on the 3 worst teams where they were able to take 30+ shots a game. Granted they will be good, but I'd put Detroit, Miami and a few other sleeper teams in front of them. Apart from those big 3, the rest of the roster and their production is completely up in the air. Not to mention that Pierce and Allen were injured last year, and if one of the big three goes down, then I don't see them competing against anyone. Just look at the Nuggets. Iverson, Anthony and Camby are in my opinion, a lot more domininting three than Garnett, Allen, and Pierce and not to mention the fact that the Nuggets have a deeper roster and more depth. The nuggets were good, but not elite. I donno, but I not on the Celtics bandwagon, until I can see them play during the season.

Anyways, those are my 2 cents. I want to see if anyone else agrees with me that the expectations for the Celtics this year are overexaggerated, and that they aren't as good as they sound.

I think the experts are putting the celtics a little too high, but by watching the highlights of their preseason games on sportcenter it looks like the big 3 have some teamwork going, and the nuggets could never say that. I see the Celtics coming in 3-4 in the conference, but watch out in the playoffs!

Thanks for your thoughts, but you and every ESPN pundit really has no idea how good or how average these Celtics can be. If anything many people I come across echo your opinion so I don't see how that makes them overrated, yes they're getting more exposure now but did you expect anything different after their offseason?

You're just going by the same talking points everyone in the media has been throwing out there, saying that they have nothing besides their big 3 (not true, they actually have a nice group of versatile and defensive minded veterans that are fitting in very well) and the potential for injury (like every other team in the league, right now the Celtics are all healthy except for Scot Pollard).

You also are either downplaying just how good Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen are by thinking the Nuggets have a more talented core, or you're forgetting because you don't watch them play often. I look forward to people seeing this team play during the season, because everything I've seen out of them so far has been mighty impressive on both ends of the court. Early returns have been promising but of course it's only preseason, so we shall see.

Just sit tight and wait for the season to start, they will be a very fun team to watch and the wins and losses will take care of themselves.

Time for the overflow of Boston fans to come in and say how the celtics are going to win it all time. especially since they just recently beat down a bad knicks team in the preseason.

Good luck getting all of those guys on the same page.

Its gonna be like the Yankees if they don't win, controversy, they'll make the playoffs in that weak East, probably like a 4 seed.

The Celtics were the second-worst team in the NBA last year... To me, there has been no indication of any change, despite the new players. They will do better, but won't make the playoffs.

They are not overrated by any means in my opinion. With those players anything but an Eastern pennant would be a failure. They just need good team chemistry, something Denver lacks. It can go either way with the Celtics though, so we'll have to wait and see how they do.

nobody has mentioned (I think) that the Cavs made it to the Finals. The Cavs.

The East is awful, as much as I dislike the Celtics (or any Boston team for that matter) they aren't overrated. Yet.

i predict the celtics are going to be in the top 3 in the east, make it to the second round and thats it, you have to remember the eastern conference is weak sauce, the celtics can do big things in the east but i wouldnt crown them, especially when they havnt played one game in the regular season yet

Even IF Boston wins tha Eastern Conference Championship, they can't beat tha West.. San Antonio would still dominate them.. And sure they got KG and Ray Ray but we dont even kno if their chemistry will work out yet..

I would agree with you if they were the much tougher Western conference, but in the East they have a chance to get to the NBA finals. In the west the Spurs, Suns, Mavericks, Jazz and Rockets are better than the Celtics at this point.

Well that's why they play the game, i would expect the same thing. What happened when the Lakers had Malone, Payton, Shaq and Kobe? Obviously it didn't work, but everyone expected them to win it all, but we'll learn when the season gets underway.

The only difference is that Shaq and Kobe are self-cenetered while Ray and KG are the most unselfish superstars you can have on a team, but I agree that only the season will tell.

this team won't dominate like Shaq and kobe with the lakers 00-03 but they will definitely make playoffs and most likely lose in the conference finals to a more experienced team

I think its fair to say they are definately one of the best teams in the eastern conference where they are no dominant teams.

Rajon Rondo

I was wondering if the Celtics were actually considering Rondo as their start point guard. And he doesn't look like the point guard type, more of a two guard that likes to shoot first then pass and that doesn't bode well for the "bigthree".

Guess we'll see once the regualr season gets going.

He averaged 10/5/5 with over 2 steals when starting as a rookie last season, he's going to do well alongside the big 3. His shot is actually the weakest part of his game, he's known more as a speedy facilitator and defensive presence. He hasn't gotten much exposure, not a single Celtics game was aired on national TV last year. But he good.

I am going to take that you have not seen a single Celtics game last season. If you did, you better get your eyes checked. Rando is not Telfair, a shoot-first guard who can't shoot. This kid likes to slash and pass first rather than shoot. Unselfish guy, but I have no clue how well he will play, but if Perkins and Rando steps up, Celtics will be a team to watch though.

Miami is done, the Celtics will definitely be better off than them because they have far less old banged up bodies. Besides, none of them will be as good as the Rockets or any team from Texas will be out west.

Three contenders in the east:

1. Detroit

2. Bulls

3. Celtics

It wouldn't be overrated to say that they have a very good chance of making the playoffs. Winning the Finals is another matter though.

It was a pretty fun game for preseason, wasn't it? Intense and chippy, it'll be good if that rivalry gets revived this season. I've already got my tix for MSG when gang green comes to town next. Though you can bet Brian Scalabrine won't be starting during that one :)

Win the east? They still have to win the atlantic first. They don't have the depth to beat out the Raptors for the Atlantic title. They will only benifit from a shorten bench in the playoffs. But they won't have home court all i can say is 82 games.

Honestly you do have a point by saying that ESPN analysis and writers just exaggerate with the Big 3 but one thing you have to realize this basketball team was one of the great-es team ever when they had Larry Bird and all the titles they won. Now for the last 3 years this team hasn't been productive as everyone was expecting.

I do believe that with this acquisitions they will be playoffs contenders. I do believe that everyone expects nothing less than to see the Celtics as the Atlantic Champions and nothing less to go the 2nd round of playoffs. If this is not achieve then the hole trade was for nothing.

My personal opinion is that the General Manager and the hole staff of the Celtics are just like Pat Riley was a few years ago when he got Posey Walker and Williams involved on the biggest trade ever made involving 5 teams if i am not mistaking.

Like this guy said. Like when Kobe and Shaq was together look at the others to have good games. Perkins, Allen and Rondo will play important roles for the team.

Also I must add that the "big 3" play very different so it matches well. When you got someone like KG in the paint the BEST Three-Point shooter in the game is open behind the line and if he is covered Pierce who is an all around shooter will dish out anything.

Anyone who said Bostons Celtics are done if one of them gets injured is retarded. A superstar getting hurt affects all teams chance of a good season and playoffs. San Antonio is nothing when Tim Duncan goes down. Suns are not the same team without Nash. Detroit is nowhere near good without Billups.

posts like this make me laugh...its like you giys dont even follow basketball and just feel like saying something...if anything the Celtics have some of the best back up players in the east!! Posey is a great shooter, deffender and has tons of exspirience. House is that spark that can come of the bench and light it up with his caree 38% three point percentage. Not to mention Tony Allen is a shut down deffender who can drop 20 points on a given night...So no...shut your mounth, they have way more depth, GOOD depth, then any other team in the east...

Win the east? They still have to win the atlantic first. They don't have the depth to beat out the Raptors for the Atlantic title. They will only benifit from a shorten bench in the playoffs. But they won't have home court all i can say is 82 games.

posts like this make me laugh...its like you giys dont even follow basketball and just feel like saying something...if anything the Celtics have some of the best back up players in the east!!

If you think the Celtics have more depth than the Bulls, you're just out of your mind. The Celtics don't even scratch the top five for bench players in the east.
