He was picked number 10 and yet he wants top 3 money. The 49ers would be stupid to give in.

it took him 1 year to become the best college football receiver in the nation. I like his chancesFor the length that hegets for a contract. You gotta figure 4-6 years I dont see him developing into a top 3 receiever.

Top three money as in a top three draft pick's salary. Not a contract that pays him as if he's the third best receiver in the league. For the length that hegets for a contract. You gotta figure 4-6 years I dont see him developing into a top 3 receiever.

The college game is much different from the NFL. That is why you see so many busts. Im not saying he is going to be a bust I just dont think he will be one of the top receivers in the game
[QUOTE="Colin1192"]He won't be a top 3 receiver? Why do you say that? Who's gonna throw to him?He will never be a top 3 receiver so he definetly doesnt deserve that kind of money. The NFL needs to come up with a rookie salary scale similar to the NBA or NHL.
geaux321
I don't really care, since I don't expect him to do anything this year anyway. Rookie WRs take time to develop, so he can go ahead and hold out as long as he wants.
Please. I'm sick of these rookies who have done nothing get so much damn money. It's a damn shame. He will never be a top 3 receiver so he definetly doesnt deserve that kind of money. The NFL needs to come up with a rookie salary scale similar to the NBA or NHL.
Colin1192
I wouldn't read too deeply into this. It sounds like nothing more than standard negotiation tactics. The team wants to pay him as little as they can. He wants to be paid as much as possible. They'll find a middle ground.

edit: Not ALWAYS, but often enough. Jeremy Maclin hasn't signed yet, either.

Only 6 of the 32 first round picks have signed so far. And of the top 20, 18 are unsigned.

Exactly. I just threw out Maclin because he's another wideout. Crabtree won't earn diva status for a while--if at all.[QUOTE="dodgerblue13"] Rookies always hold out. JaMarcus Russell anyone?

Crabtree won't earn diva status for a while--if at all.Weren't there reports during the draft that Crabtree was already a diva when he went to Cleveland to talk with Mangini? Or was I thinking of another receiver?feryl06Crabtree wants to join Browns, but is feeling mutual? I'm also pretty sure he had character issues, but I still don't consider him a diva yet. Rookies can mature quickly in the NFL. I'm willing to give it more time before I call him a self-absorbed player.
Is that what's holding up Jeremy Maclin signing in Philly?
I thought all the first round picks were SLOTTED based on previous year's salaries and draft position?

There's no official slotting system, but rookies do generally get contracts that seem like there is such a system in place. Agents and teams tend to see what kind of money is being given to picks above and below, what was given to the same draft position the previous year, and use that information as a guideline.
goodel(sp) makes all these stupid rules for the nfl but doesnt make a rule for rookies. This is the number one thing i hate abou the NFL rookie holdouts. Reggie Bush did it and m glad he got ownedNetYankEagleSo having a huge part in getting your team to it's first ever conference championship game was being owned? Didn't realize that.

As far as Sheldon Brown, not the best pass by Brees, but Bush got his revenge later in the game and the W which was way more important than one good hit.
crabtree the next nfl drama queen?starwarsjunkyI really hope not. 49ers had TO, that was just too much drama.

The NFL rookies make way ntoo much moneynikolai37
I've never understood this sentiment. The teams obviously think they're worth it, otherwise they wouldn't be handing out these contracts.
A rookie cap would be great for the NFL. Teams pick early in the draft because they need help from impact rookies. But all the damn money they demand hurts these teams just as much.

It's either sign them or waste a valuable draft pick.[QUOTE="Oleg_Huzwog"][QUOTE="nikolai37"]The NFL rookies make way ntoo much moneyChutebox

It's either sign them or waste a valuable draft pick.A valuable pick warrants a similarly valuable contract. It's up to the team to determine just how valuable that pick really is.
he should get top 5 money...he deserves it and has the ability to be one of the best recieverschAzN93Haha, feel free to use a pick on him in our fantasy draft then.....

What is it with receivers?
No joke, receivers seem like the biggest prima donna's in the game. You would think QB's would be alot higher maintanence. I suspect it has to do with job difficulty. QBs have a hard job. They're faced with some tough challenges so I think they're a bit sheepish compared to a dude whose job is to just run out there and catch a football. If they don't get the ball... whose fault is that? They're always open ;)[QUOTE="d12malu"][QUOTE="theone86"]No joke, receivers seem like the biggest prima donna's in the game. Huh? WR just has to catch, and has a easy outs as excuses. A hockey player, O-line dude, wrestling all face someone one on one and there's not much excuse if someone gets past you. WR, hey the ball wasn't where it should be, I was open and so on. I would also argue that WRs in college face some of the weakest opposition in all of sports. The college secondaries in general STINK. It is easy to outrun everyone and get a big head.[QUOTE="duxup"][QUOTE="d12malu"] No joke, receivers seem like the biggest prima donna's in the game. Compared to the other jobs as long as a WR catches sometimes he can think he's awesome. Other players actually get beat by a dude facing them. A WR if the QB makes a good pass might not even beat the player guarding him and look / think he is awesome and heck even get much of the credit.starwarsjunky
