After reading about the incident below, I wonder how deeply they relied on and got into this "spying" method of winning games?

This is pretty disturbing news. Couple this with Rodney Harrison and lord knows who else using HGH on the team, and their should really be a thorough investigation done.

Hopefully more teams will call around and will be wary about this sort of thing when playing the Patriots.

With all the money involved I'm surprised more of this doesn't happen off the field before games and etc.

I don't really understand the fuss about this, sure its a shady way of doing business but really how effective is stealing signals, you still have to block and tackle just the same, and the signals are always changed weekly as to make sure they don't tip people off. And lastly this is a business and the goal of this business is to win, the Pats do that as well as anyone and it could just be people looking for an excuse. The jets havent said anything because this isn't a viable excuse to use, oh yeah they knew the play, so we just laid down for them. Its like jumping the count to gain an advantage, you don't see people whining about when ex players give secrets about teammates from the previous years.

yup, they bought a tape of the pats's broadcast lastyear that you can hear brady's play calling. the media jumped on miami, but guess what? it's pretty common in the league.

They say this is not the first time this guy has been suspected. Something about him in Green Bay last year I heard on espn. Will have to wait for the final outcome after the league views through the tape. Saying could be a fine to a loss of a draft pick.

I'd love to watch the tape that this guy had. Maybe it could help me run past 3 Jets defenders for a 51 yard TD. The Patriots organization weeps at this loss of respect.

Now lets just back the truck up chuck. I never mentioned how much respect I had for the Pats to begin with. And that answer is a lot. I still have more respect points for the Pats than for about any other team in the NFL. I may have lost a few with this recent finding, but I still have them on top of my "respect poll" hovering right above the Bengals and the Vikings.

Well, shame on them, they got caught, and will punished. This isn't a cop out, but alot of teams over the years have cheated and will cheat again. From stealing playbooks, to turning up the thermostat in the opposing team's locker room. It happens.

Then you've lost respect for the other 31 other teams in the NFL because a lot of them do it they just haven't been caught yet but hey its different when other teams do it no big deal but when the Pats do it everyone makes it a huge issue. They were the better team on the field that day they were going to win regardless the Jets offense couldn't even get anything going please. As far as them being classy? There more classy then LT whining about every single thing the Patriots do what a crybaby he should worry about his own team this Sunday and how they won't be able to stop Randy Moss.

Wow- Peyton Manning REALLY IS the best ever!

Tom Brady is a FRAUD - he knew the defenses he was playing against!!!!

They got caught LAST year in the Packers game too and the guy stealing the signals was tossed out of the game, but they never looked into it.

And a couple years ago they did it in a Miami game. They probabyl do it in every HOME game with their Box cameras - no wonder the Colts had trouble beating them!

Tom Brady, Bill Belichik and the whole team are a bunch of CHEATING FRAUDS!

All the Superbowls should be overturned IMO.

Not cool at all. Games could've been lost because of this. If it turns out to be a serious infraction from the Pats they need to get "beat with the belt" in regards to punishment.

If true.

Overracting much? :|

Sounds more like super scouting to me. I just doubt they Patriots are the only team doin' stuff like this, so to penalize them(just cuz they got sloppy) seems kinda hypocritcal, ya know?

This is coming from someone who is far and away from being a Patriots fan(I just wanted the Saints to get Asante Samuel from them :P)

Well Goodell determined that there was wrong doing, going to be interesting to see the punishment

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3014677

Goodell is considering severe sanctions, including the possibility of docking the Patriots "multiple draft picks" because it is the competitive violation in the wake of a stern warning to all teams since he became commissioner, the sources said. The Patriots have been suspected in previous incidents.

Goodell is on the warpath. These are not the days to get caught doing anything wrong.

Considering all the things teams might be tempted to do I wouldn't be surprised if other teams are doing similar things. I'd like to see a harsh punishment to send a signal that suck things are not cool.

Yea I made a post earlier about this guy but it got taken away probably because I was right anyway its something I'm not happy with being a fan of the organization but these other fans need to realize there team isn't always clean either. I don't really think this should ruin everything they've done in the past but as always people will blow it out of proportion.

people who have lost "respect" for the pats need to look around the NFL. peyton manning does it on the sidelines after EACH SERIES. including the first one off the filed. he sits on the bench and looks at pictures taken from where ever in the RCA dome and studies the defense. this isnt the first time its happened. every team steals signs. its as easy as looking down the sidelines for people giving signs, and studying what they do. it may take a while to catch on, but teams do it all the time.

we won by knowing their signals? bullcrap. well not entierly, i guess. we had some "inside information" on what they were gona do to start the second half from the tapes, so we told hobbs to run it out of the endzone.

As a Dolphan I think Goodell should forfeit the rest of the Pat's season. Because we need a chance at making playoffs this year :D

The Pats are in trouble for the taping and having too many radio frequencies for the helmet radios. Rumor is Goodell might take multiple draft picks away from the Pats.

LOL@ all the fools trying to defend New England.

"Everyone duz it dey juss aint been cot yet whine whie cry cry!"

It don't take no genius out of a stadium of 90,000+ people to realize that a guy is filming hand signals, especially when his camera is rolling only during the opposing team's defense. That's why the notion of other teams having not been caught yet is stupid as hell. Also, studying formations isn't the same as studying hand signals.Formations show what could happen. Hand signals shows what does happen. The Patriots cheated, and I'm willing to put money on this cheating being why they won the Superbowls.

They are now officially asterisk champions.

1. Belichik should be banned from the NFL. The so-called "hoodie-genius" is just a cheating fraud. And anyone else associated with the cheating should be banned with him.

2. The Patriots should lose their entire list of First Day's draft picks in 2008.

3. The NFL should overturn the Jet's game, last year's Packers game and all three Superbowls. And Rescind Brady's and Branch's MVPs. The Rams, Panthers and Eagles should be named Superbowl Champions for their respective years - the Patriots probably cheated in all those games too.

4. The team should be renamed the New England Cheaters. To refer to them as Patriots is a disgrace to our whole country.

Everyone keeps saying how other teams cheat like these asterisk champion Patriots, but nobody is offering proof nor have any of the other teams caught anyone yet.

Except in New England. AGAIN.

Yeah. They SHOULD have their championships rescinded. If they haven't EARNED a legitimate win in the past five years, then they haven't won those SuperBowls either.

I watched SportsCenter tonight on ESPN and they were addressing this issue and comparing it to spying for "signals" in baseball. They had one football guy expert on the issue and one baseball guy expert. They both stated how there's many similarities in finding out the signal language of another team but also many differences. It was interesting because in baseball, if the opposite team finds out your pitchers signals, the pitcher will know almost immediately and throw the baseball at the body of the batter with a fastball as if to say "mind your own businness". You can't do that in football. So in the end, the two guys on Sportscenter agreed that it happened in both football and baseball, but in baseball it can be controlled on the game level. In football, you can't just decide to plow into Tom Brady because you discover the Pats are cheating. You would be controlled from a league level by being suspended for a certain amount of games.

I'm open to the possibility that other teams have done this, and maybe are dong it. That is why you have to punish the Pats, not a cop out excuse. You punish the Pats (who got caught... twice) to make sure everyone knows there are serious consequences for this sort of thing.

As for stealing signs in baseball I've always thought that was a part of the game provided the folks on the field were doing it like a player on 2nd base (not some hired gun in the stands). As jt22_us noted there are ways around that and adapting to such things with sign changing, beaning a guy, and that is almost a part of baseball IMO. Such adaptations are far easier than in the NFL where EVERY player who hits the field needs to know the signs. They might be similar but IMO in practice they are different situations.

Anyway yeah my respect for the Pats has gone way down. They used to be that team that I thought people didn't like because they won. I saw no reason otherwise. Now I do.

Yea I saw that last night to I'll tell ya im very disappointed and I understand how people feel about it but how about Mark Schlereth that guy is a joke he says that there Superbowl titles are tarnished ok thats fine then so are the titles he won with the Broncos when they were CHEATING the salary cap at the time and what about the Steelers in the 70s pretty much all on steroids. The other thing that bothers me is that the Dolphins did the samething to us last year and really... it completley changed the seeding in the playoffs for us but nothing happened to them.
