Well this makes the Celtics fall from the top of the "most likely to win the championship" list.
The Hornets are looking amazing though. This is the exact kind of player they needed last season.

Posey was a lock down defender in the playoffs, the Celtics are going to miss him. As for people fighting themselves to get into the Hornets bandwagon: do you guys expect Tyson Chandler and Pedja to be healthy for yet another season...you might be disappointed.Master_Live
who is fighting to get in the hornets bandwagon? people are just mentioning about them in this thread because they know the Hornets are going to be top dogs in the west next year with the Lakers. I hardly saw any fans in this board when they made the playoffs anyways and I don't expect to see much hornets fans again this year despite them doing well
I really liked Posey, he was prob my favorite guy of the bench this season after powe, but John Hollinger makes some good points.
"The Hornets aren't paying for what Posey gave the Celtics last year, or what he gave the Heat in 2006, but for what he can potentially give the Hornets from 2008 to 2012...Comb through the books and try to find perimeter players who played well until 35 -- it's tough. Now try to find some who played well 'til that age after scoring single figures in their 20s. Good luck...But the big-picture takeaway is that most players decline sharply between ages 31 and 35, and if Posey wasn't that good at 31 he's likely to be unplayable by the time he's 35. That's why nobody else wanted to give him four guaranteed years...As for Boston, losing Posey certainly was a blow, but it was correct not to match the Hornets' overreaction. If Tony Allen comes back healthy he can replace a lot of the defensive mettle Posey provided, while the hope is that rookies J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker can also fill in some of the departed production. And if those options don't work out, of course, it's easier for the Celtics to sign or trade for a replacement if they're not saddled by a long-term midlevel commitment to Posey."
Perhaps his intangables are weighty, and his defense was uterlly brilliant in the playoffs and finalsl, and i wanted him back, but it was probably best not to sign him for 4 years, and thats what the hornets were willing to do that no one else was.
Celtics weren't able to get him or Maggette. That's a pretty big blow unless they pick someone else up.LTomlinson21There's that Joe Smith guy from the Hawks they could get.
[QUOTE="xtn702"]The Celtics are going to miss James. But at the same time James will probably be missing THe Celtics a little to.msjr78Hmm, I'm not so sure considering the huge leap forward that the Hornets have taken last year. How so? But the east is also a much easier conference than the west is. And the Celtics are still the defending World Champions until proven otherwise.

Either way, he couldn't go wrong. Going with NO means he can play on a competitive team for the remainder of his career. He might go to the Finals one or two more times with Boston -- which is nothing to sneeze at! -- but after that they'll likely go back to losing and he'd be stuck on a bad team for the last year(s) of his career.
As a Portlander I have to add: NO will need all the help they can get! As long as they beat the Lakers this year, I don't care how good they are. There are gonna be some seriously awesome playoff showdowns between our teams.

I think he might want too much money and I doubt he'll come there to be a player off the bench.
