lol, can you elaborate more on that theory?

Melo can't defend, doesn't assist and doesn't fight for rebounds. You saw how better the nuggets got when they shipped melo out? And how much worse the knicks got?

Knicks winning % w/ Melo: .500 Nuggets winning % w/o Melo: .600 I'm wrong yet you don't have the stats to back it up.

The amount of players the Knicks traded away was absurd. Basically anyone not named Amare was traded,Winning percentage is an inaccurate measurement of how good a single player is. If the Knicks traded, say, Wilson Chandler straight up for Melo, and that was the winning percentage of the Knicks and Nuggets respectively, than bringing up the winning percentage would be a great point, however one of the strengths of the Nuggets that accounted for the higher Winning percentage (and something the Knicks seriously lack) is bench depth. To review the Melo trade, ignoring picks The Knicks got: Anthony, Billups (No longer with team), Brewer (NLWT), Shelden Williams (NLWT), Balkman (NLWT) and Anthony Carter (NLWT) The Nuggets got: Gallinari, Chandler, Mozgov in addition to this, the Knicks also lost Anthony Randolph and to a lesser extent Eddy Curry to the TWolves Melo, on the other hand, is one of the, best rebounding SF in the game. His defense has improved significantly, and he has been making the correct pass when double teamed, and more so in the pick in roll with Amare. He isn't a LeBron that will get you 8-9 assist, but he can dish out 3-5 a game.

That's his problem. He's a ball hawk, once he gets it, his teammates are not going to expect it back. Also, as soon as Melo came back from his injury to play w/Lin, the Knicks started to stink it up. Not melo?

That is not true... at all. Averaging 4 assist at the SF spot is not bad at all. He plays what Doc Rivers dubs 'hero ball' to often, but he is no black hole. 1. After Melo returned from injury the Knicks went 19-14. That's not great, but hardly stinking it up, except that 6 game losing streak (which was followed by winning 8 out of the next 9 games) and Melo then went on to have the best April of any player, averaging 30 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assist.

He's averaging 3.6 assists per game. Secondly, when Melo scores 30+ points, Knicks are 5-7 (or somewhere along those lines). Ergo, him throwing shots up to get 30+ points doesn't help the knicks at all. Also, that losing streak followed by a winning streak shows the inconsistency of the Knicks with Melo. And the bigger problem, he can't defend. There's a reason why people called the Nuggets the "enver Nuggets" because there was no defense in Denver in his playing time there.

Don't forget that last FULL year with Melo Denver made it to the WCF. While the Knicks failed to make the playoffs in the east, where sub 500 teams where getting in. Plus the fact that Denver got the better deal with the trade doesn't surprise me that they have a better win%.

Reminds me of when people always criticized Iverson for never passing the ball even though he was consistently near the top of the league in assists

3.6 rounded up is 4.... we round up or down all the time. The Knicks are 7-7 when he scores 30 or more points.... Melo plays defense. He is no LeBron, but he is no Kevin Martin either.

No, his last full year in Denver the Nuggets lost in 5 games to Utah with homecourt and Melo's defense was awful, as usual.

It was 6, melo averaged 30 points, and when people claim a player has awful defense they really have nothing to really support it.

I watched him almost his entire career, he's a lazy defender. I question anyone's sense who actually watches him and thinks he's a good defender.

what you witnessed means nothing. Testimonial evidence is the worse and least reliable kind. Things like confirmation bias, misremembering, etc. are common. Take Melo vs LeBron http://www.nba.com/advancedstats/player-vs-player.html#LeBron-James-vs-Carmelo-Anthony|2544,2546;year=201112;season=r Fact of the matter is he is an average defender. He is not a major asset defensively, but he isn't a liability either...

Melo plays defense? There's a reason why the term "There's no D in Denver" was coined during Melo's time there. He couldnt even make it out of the 1st round all but one time and he's going to get bounced again. He does not defend. He is not even an average defender. Along with his ball hawking tendencies, he's a bad defender.

.... I'm done. No point discussing this further with someone who brings nothing but anecdotal 'proof' while preaching from his soap box that 'Melo doesn't play D!'

But before I ignore your future post on this topic.... there is something I would like you to consider "There's a reason why the term "There's no D in Denver" was coined during Melo's time there." Once upon a time there was this phrase 'there is no D in Dallas' and fans frequently called the 7 foot tall German PF 'Irk Nowitzki' since he had no D. To add to this, Irk Nowitzki's team failed in the playoffs throughout his time there, once losing to the 8 seed in the playoffs. I suppose this 'Irk Nowitzki' will never win a ring as well, since the term "There is no D in Dallas" once existed? Will this Irk Nowitzki not win a ring ever because his team frequently failed in the playoffs?

What you said of Melo in Denver may have been true, however, even if it was it means nothing. Clinging to the past blinds you from improvement. Would Melo being a 'poor defender' in Denver mean that he couldn't have improved in the last 2? The fact of the matter is, as stats have shown, Melo is at worst an average defender.

So by all means, scream from atop your soap box 'facts' that are not based in reality, just don't expect a reply from me.

Dirk is still a bad defender lmao, there's a reason he's never on the court at the end of the game when it's a defensive possession. Melo is lazy on defense, that alone makes him a bad defender. When he does want to play defense it's like you said... average, so we can agree on that.

I GOT IT GUYZ. Since Amare's left hand is all padded up now, Carmelo's gonna start another brawl, and Melo will be sucker punching everyone, while Amare will club people with his new weapon. They will take out everyone on the Heat roster, and although Melo and Amare will be banned, the remaining members of the Knicks shall take down the Heat. You heard it here first. GodofBigMacs

If this was to some how really occur...

Carmelo isn't Lebron James (f*ck who is?), but he is still a pretty good passer at the SF position. I think he actually played Point Guard in highschool.
