Call me up when Kobe wins his Defensive Player of the Year award and tell me he plays defense like Jordan did. Kobe is probably the closest thing to Jordan we'll see and he is a better shooter I'll give you that, but nothing else he does is better than what #23 did.1_Hit_Killerits been 12 years since a non foward won that award that Centers and Power Fowards will own that Award forever from now on in this era Rebounding and shot blocking gets you that award. Kobe has been on the all defensive team 7 times while MJ has been on there 9 times. Kobe still has like 10 years in him
You still didn't give out any information that says Kobe > Jordan other than informing me they are players from different times which I already knew. 1_Hit_Killerdid my info say Kobe>Jordan was i informing you Kobe is better then Jordan? I was informing you that by the time Kobe is done he will own MJ on the Defensive side since that was your only argument of MJ>Kobe
Whever this topic comes up I'm always reminded of Jordan's defense, and then the answer to who's better is always clear.
Jordan was the best at both offense and defense. He's the only player that ever won Defensive Player of the Year AND the season MVP all in one year. That to me shows that he was the best at both ends of the court.
Kobe is great...but there will only be one Michael Jordan. Even if Kobe, LeBron, or someone else in the future may get better numbers, no one, and I mean, NO ONE, will match the impact Jordan had on the game of basketball.Not yet. He has the chance to be considered better, he just has to add more to his legacy. The #1 thing he needs is more rings. Also Kobe will take a half off like he did in game 1 vs. the Spurs. Jordan never took a minute off. He went full throttle all game.cmpepper23BS, he didn't take anything off, he was trying to get his teammates going. First people say "but but teh ballhogzz!!! :cry: Now it's "he's taking a half off". Also i have a problem with people declaring him as a "king" and pretending like he was perfect. Some of us are old enough to have seen him play, stop making MJ out to be a god who nobody should be compared to. :roll:
i love the Lakers and i believe Kobe Bryant is absolutely fenominal (misspelled), but that, my friend, is a bold statement (your title).

Yes Kobe has a nice shot, but better than Mike's GTFOH......Mike has career shooting percentage of 51.5%, Kobe on the other hand is a career 45.3% shooter....kobe better than jordan lol....90s babies please stop talkingscreenhustla
Actually I was born in 82...
Hey thats your opinion. To others sounds like its solely based on jordan in his washington two years.
Jordan could hit from anywhere with high percentage, and when he took it inside - there was no blueprint to stop him.
mrgab
Thats true, if you managed to somehow get in his face, he'd bend his body in the stupidest ways and still make it.
You have to give Kobe props though, there is no blueprint to stop Kobe either, I truly believe he can score at will just like Jordan. Kobe excells at all aspects of the game (yes including passing) just like Jordan did, now it's time to rack up some more titles Kobe! I see that same killer instinct as Jordan did. Oooweee love this, thinking back to that series vs. the Jazz (the push off) man I was like in the 4th grade, I see that same killer instinct in Kobe this year. I can see 2 more titles hanging on the LA rafters before Kobe is done there.
i swear kobe is just a better player to me he has a shot anywhere on the court and he can take anyone off the dribble plus he can play good defense. i think he is better then micheal jordan.-RenegadeKobe can do anything offensively but that's the only advantage he had. Jordan had better IQ, better clutch performer and could score at will against any team. Jordan also played during a different era. If Jordan played now, he'd avergage probably 45. You can't even look at a player now without getting a foul.
Michael Jordan is pure marketing hype - is he great? Heck yes. But far from the greatest - but I do think he is better than Kobe and the best shooting guard of all time, but not near as great as everyone says. Jordan needed Pippen more than Pippen needed Jordan.AHUGECAT
Think about what you just said, you are basically implying that Pippen would have been more successful by himself, than Jordan would be. That's why when Jordan left the Bulls they were never the same, right?
Kobe isn't as good as Michael, but he sure is close. Kobe and Michael are both extremely clutch players, and when they are on it, you just can't stop them, and they just find ways to get wins. Watching Michael Jordan play sometimes was just unreal.

Eh, the era argument, players play with the times. Jordan and Kobe I believe share the same stratosphere, it's not all about scoring.
Looks like the TC is on his own here, seeing the undeniable unanimous response favoring Jordan.
But that's not to say Kobe isn't great, because he is. I agree with what most are saying here, Kobe is the closest thing to Jordan. But like I always say, there will always be only one Michael Jordan.
What symbolically showed me in how to compare these two is during Jordan's final all-star game when he was with the Wizards. During the 4th quarter, Jordan hit the game winning shot for the east to take the lead during the final seconds, which was a clutch shot that symbolized how great he is. Then the next remaining seconds, Kobe was stupidly fouled by Jermaine O`neal when Kobe was shooting a three that allowed Kobe to tie the game, taking it to overtime. Symbolically, Kobe's tieing the game at the line wasn't as spectacular or great as Jordan hitting the supposed game winner, but it was still a clutch play.
What this shows me in a symbolic way was that Kobe at the free throw line comes the closest to Jordan. Of course, Kobe can hit a game winning shot, but that's not what I'm trying to say here. I'm speaking symbolically. Jordan's clutch performance was a step more spectacular and showed another step of greatness than Kobe tieing the game at the line.
Ugh, I know it's kind of hard to explain without writing an entire essay about this, but does anyone else know what I'm trying to say?
Give me a damn break.. all you young dudes acting liek Kobe is better hten MJ was. If it wasnt for MJ, Kobe wouldnt be the player he is today.
MJ > Kobe and any other player ever.
Mj = King
kozzy1234
That's makes no sense to say Kobe wouldn't be the player he is today if it wasn't for MJ. Did MJ take him under his wing and teach him the game? NO! That's just stupid, because I never remember hearing about MJ personally training Kobe and allowing him to develop into the player he is today. Kobe isn't there yet, but I have no doubt in my mind that when his career is over, he will be and should be considered the best to ever play. He has like 8 to 10 years left in him. That's a lot of time.
MJ = King
KOBE = GOAT when his career is done.
Yes, I watched Jordan in his prime, and he was my favorite player to watch, but the more I see KObe play, I seriously think he will be the greatest ever if he gets more rings. He'll probably get a Final's MVP this year along with his 4th ring. Nobody wants to replace Jordan as the GOAT, because that's who we grew up watching, but things change. It's like comparing Jim Brown with Ladanian Tomlinson.
i swear kobe is just a better player to me he has a shot anywhere on the court and he can take anyone off the dribble plus he can play good defense. i think he is better then micheal jordan.-Renegade
You say he can shoot anywhere on the court (So can MJ) take anyone off the dribble (So can MJ) and is a good defensive player (MJ was a GREAT defensive player). He could lock anyone down. I respect your opinion, but you have to base it off of something different than those, cause they don't cut it.
Hey thats your opinion. To others sounds like its solely based on jordan in his washington two years.

Yes there was, it was called the New York Knicks.
hmm kobe is a better 2/3 point shooter and a faceup shooter and on def mj is better and the only reason y jordan shot 51 percent on his FG is because jordan was a bad 3pt shooter he shot in 20s area wow MJ.yonaswii08
Ummm, MJ was a career .327 3 shooter. Kobe is a .340. That is a difference of .013, not much a difference. Also MJ shot a .332 3 in the playoffs, Kobe is a .324. In regards to 3's they are about even.
Let me see Kobe win a handful of more chamopionships before I annoit him. Jordan also won the mvp and defensive player of the year a few years into his career, and blossomed from there. Kobe won his first MVP this year. Bryant also hasn't won a thing w/out Shaq, in a watered down NBA.
I hated Jordan, but I recognize greatness. Kobe's the closest representation of him, and probably the closest we will see. But he's not an immortal player yet.
Yes i do :PLooks like the TC is on his own here, seeing the undeniable unanimous response favoring Jordan.

Jordan and his bulls were the major reason Ewing never won a title.

No.. just no.. Im a BIG KOBE FAN.
But MJ is a different..he's like god ...

You could say all those things about jordan, with the exception of the fact that jordan was far more consistent and was a finals mvp 6 times.
[QUOTE="-Halftime-"]No. He's probly the closest thing, though.andyboiii
exactly
i think he is VERY close and have years to come to prove himself. at 29, the present Kobe matches, if not surpasses, Jordan of the same age in many respects, most notably the number of championship titles. on the court, Kobe is responsible for some of the most difficult shots and the most entertaining game dunks in the past 10 years, making him the deadliest SG of this era, and is easily comparable to MJ in terms of scoring capabilities. defensive capabilities is probably Kobe's inferiority compared to MJ -- IF you can call an 8 time all defensive selection that ;)
to say that Kobe Bryant > Michael Jordan is actually not as far fetched as many die hard MJ worshippers think. these folks claim that Kobe is a ball-hogger who can't do anything on his own, while these claims could be easily applied to Jordan, who was just another A list players before Scottie Pippen joined the Bulls. as a matter of fact, the so called "greatest player of all time" probably got more help from teammates than other championship regulars. that nobody realizes this never failed to astonished me.

As a diehard Knick fan, I can tell you Pippen and Co. certainly helped Jordan, but when the chips were on the table the man could score at will from anywhere on the court. The one knock I would have on him, if you could call it that, is that he got the benefit of every whistle. I actually remember a play where he shot the ball, it bounced off the rim, onto the backboard, and rattled around up there a few more seconds only to bounce out and hit the ground...and then the whistle was blown for a foul.Please Log In to post.
