Why do people keep saying that Kobe is the best player ever. He certainly is not. Lets see if he can "lead" his team to a championship without Shaq.

No one on these forums has ever claimed that... so why post this thread where no one has said it?

Um... no. Just.. no don't say that. Maybe he will beat MJ in stats and such but MJ will still be the better player when history looks back upon them.

He is the best current player in the NBA.

He also has plenty of time to improve, and could be one of the best ever.

How old is he anyway?

Kobe definitely isn't the best player ever...

He's one of the best SG's to ever play though, and he still has some years left in him on what should be a contending team.

Hes around 29-30 years old. He could be one of the best but I doubt he will be better then Magic, Bird, Big-O, Isiah Thomas, Clyde, or Reggie Miller.

ok the first 3 I can agree on but how the hell can you put clyde drexler or reggie miller in front of kobe lol

were you too young to remember the 2000 finals when Kobe did a number on reggie in the 4th quarter when shaq fouled out

Kobe has 3 rings and I am not trying to argue. I just stated my personal opinion which many people disagree with and I really couldn't care much because Kobe himself said when compared to MJ he is just trying to be Kobe Bryant and nobody else. I do believe that Kobe is better though. Again, that is my personal opinion.

Michael was one of the best offensive AND defensive players of all-time. Kobe can put on a great offensive show, but he's not defensive player of the year material. (Michael Jordan was in 1988).

I believe MJ was defensive 1st team nearly every year he was in the league.

Michael's Honors: Six-time NBA champion (1991-93, 1996-98); MVP (1988, '91, '92, '96, '98); 10-time All-NBA First Team (1987-93, 1996-98); All-NBA Second Team (1985); Defensive Player of the Year (1988); Nine-time All-Defensive First Team (1988-93, 1996-98); Rookie of the Year (1985); 14-time All-Star; All-Star MVP (1988, '96, '98); One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History ('96); Olympic gold medalist (1984, '92).

How is that biased when Kobe and Lebron can easily be better than MJ? I am just saying. I don't want to be a follower and say that MJ is better just because other people say he is.

Kobe isn't the best ever yet, but there is a very good chance he will be. Nobaody wants to give him credit because he is not MJ. Nobody is willing to admit that there are players out there better or with the potential to be better than MJ.

Look at it like this Kobe already has 3 rings, numerous all star games, numerous all defensive teams, and I think he will finally get his much deserved and overdue MVP this year. He has done it all so to speak except one thing. That one thing being, becoming the GOAT. He knows he needs rings to be put above Jordan's level and that's what he is gong to do. This is what motivates him to be the player he is. He wants to be the best ever and get his respect. BTW we all know he has a better jumper than MJ. He is always hitting key shots in the 4th quarter and can take a game over in the 4th quarter and finish it off as if he's Mariano Rivera in the 9th. He is one of the best clutch time players ever. If he is able to take his team to the finals this year and win, it's a move in the right direction to becoming the best. He still has a lot left in him, and could end up playing 7 to 10 more years.

It's sad that no one wants to show Kobe the love he deserves. I think NBA fans are spoiled because there are a lot of great players in the NBA right now, and one who could be the best all time, KOBE. He will never reach MJ's level off the court, endorsements and the like, but as far as play goes he is there now, he just needs more hardware to prove it to all the doubters.

MJ had Scottie Pippen. IMO Kobe will be the best, but it's not important because different eras really can't be compared. CP3 might end up being one of the best PGs, but people will still give it to Magic Johnson just because of who he is.

nah uh, you're just as biased when you that nobody can be compared to Jordan. i respect him and all, but i simply couldn't see how he could get those rings without Pippen & Co -- and this is my direct answer to those questioning if Kobe could do it without Shaq.

As a matter of fact, it's not just Kobe....with quite a number of young budding stars who easily outshine Jordan of the same age, i honestly don't understand what this Jordan worshipping is all about.

I don't see how Kobe isn't a team player. This year he trusts his teammates fully, and he's averaging almost 5.5 assists per game, which is exceptional for a shooting guard.

LOL at taking Nash over Kobe. Take that no defense, no championship having chump over a 3 time champion and all NBA defender. Real smart.

I'll take Chauncey Billups & Chris Paul over Nash anyday.

You know, players that can do something besides play offense. And in the case of Chauncey, a player that can actuaually lead a team to a championship(With far less talent than Nash has)

Nash is a great player, but he is not the player everyone makes him out to be.

Chump was probly the wrong word lol.

What I'm saying is, even before this year, I felt that Nash was an overrated player. He definitely turned the Suns around but he is aging, doesn't play defense, and can't lead his team to a title. Which is why I'd rather have Billups, and possibly even Deron Williams over him. Younger, better defensive PG's.

Anyone would take a younger PG over an older one lol. Still nash is a better shooter then them. They each excell at different things.

Kobe has never put up 100. Does that mean Wilt is the best of all time? No. You cant just bring up stats and use them as a reason when he doesnt have the best stat in said grouping.

Nash was a for instance, of course Chris Paul is amazing. And when you have a whole slew of massively high scoring games, it says to me you look for your own shot. It doesnt be little his talent, but it suggests less team focus

Fanboy much? As an unbiased fan of the NBA i can say hands down MJ is betetr then Kobe. Hence 6x NBA champ, 5x NBA MVP, 6x NBA FInals MVP, and 14x NBA All Star.

Kobe has what 2 rings 0 MVP's?

Kobe has 3 rings and I am not trying to argue. I just stated my personal opinion which many people disagree with and I really couldn't care much because Kobe himself said when compared to MJ he is just trying to be Kobe Bryant and nobody else. I do believe that Kobe is better though. Again, that is my personal opinion.

I agree Kobe is the best player. Maybe the best all time. One thing I didnt see MJ out up 81 points huh?

Kobe has never put up 100. Does that mean Wilt is the best of all time? No. You cant just bring up stats and use them as a reason when he doesnt have the best stat in said grouping.

Even though Wilt scored 19 more than Kobe, Kobes 81 point game is a lot more impressive than Wilt's game. The type of game the NBA was back then is a lot different then it is now and it is definitely a harder game nowadays. I am a Laker fan and i do think Kobe is the best active player currently in the league but MJ is still the better shooting guard. And the argument of lets see if Kobe can win a championship without another player is BS, no one can do it by themselves and too much hate is put on Kobe for not being able to. MJ won with Pippen, Magic with Worthy and Kareem, Duncan with Manu and Parker, etc, i could go on and on. I guarantee you if the Lakers win the chip this year some reporter will write an article about Kobe showing that he couldn't win a championship without anyone else. Kobe may be cocky but i have never heard him say i can win on my own.

[QUOTE="-Halftime-"]

Just_Osmo

Anyone would take a younger PG over an older one lol. Still nash is a better shooter then them. They each excell at different things.

Just_Osmo, In a way I think you're being biased too. You're kind of like a Kobe hater. Well thats ok i guess, everyone hates him.

Anyway I think Kobe is second greatest player ever right below MJ. But I also think Kobe is the best one on one player ever.

P.S. I'm not a Kobe fan or a Lakers fan, so please dont say im biased. Warriors for life! Monta!! 8)

MJ was the complete player. The best ever. Kobe is currently the best player active. He has some way to go to reach MJ. I enjoyed watching MJ when he played. But I was never a fan of the Bulls or MJ. If that makes sense.

This is the funniest thread i've read in a long time. I love that every single person who says that Kobe is better has a laker or kobe sig or avi. Let me be the unbiased one here and state the obvious, there is NO WAY you can say Kobe is the best player ever when his career is only halfway done. As of now Michael Jordan is the best player ever. Can Kobe, Lebron or anyone else eventually match him, sure (although i don't think so), but you can't say that at this point in their careers. I will never mention Kobe even in the same breath as Jordan until he leads his team to a title like Michael did. Kobe was robin to Shaq's batman during their title run. If Kobe can win a title as the MAN, then i will begin to think about it, but until then you Laker/Kobe fans are good for a great laugh

This is a good point. It wasn't Kobe driving those titles back then, it was Shaq. So, in a sense, Kobe and Pippen had the same, complimentary roll. Now Kobe has a chance to be the driving force. He has several nice complimentary players in Gasol, Odom, and if he ever comes back Bynum. Now is his chance to prove he's an all time great in both the regular and post season.

Kobe never had to play against Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Isaiah Thomas, Patrick Ewing, etc.. etc... Kobe plays in a LOUSY NBA with watered down players who have NO mid-range game, play NO Defense, can TRAVEL all day long and oh yea, he needed SHAQ to win those 3 rings.

Kobe is good, but he's playing in a watered down league.

He's like the Doug Flutie of the CFL.

Magic can say whatever they want. I'm judging them by their numbers and accomplishments, not words.
