Where does it say Boston backed out? I've looked at various sources and none of them say anything about that, they just talk about the trade. Now, as for the trade; I think it will help the Lakers into the top five teams in the West (Spurs, Mavs, Suns, Jazz ahead of them) but they will still have to gel together and get a better PG.nickdastickhttp://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/46690/20070625/celtics_pull_out_of_four_way_kg_deal/
Garnett to L.A. talks are dead.
If McHale still harbors any hope for getting a return on his franchise player before he walks next season, the only choice is Boston. He didn't want to deal KG to the Western Conference anyway. Al Jefferson, the #5 pick and major cap relief is a great offer for a team to rebuild with and it might not even be that strong anymore seeing as there are few serious trading partners out there to bid against.
Word is if KG can be convinced to sign an extension with Boston, the deal is as good as done. But if his mind is made up that he won't play for the Celtics (as it appears to be) I imagine he'll wind up staying put for one more go round in Minnesota.
