This is a question for those who believed that throughout last season Kobe was still a better all round/more individually skilled player than Lebron.

Even though you may still be more of a fan of Kobe, now that Lebron has improved his jump shot (including from 3pt range) and his defense, do you now believe Lebron has surpassed Kobe as the better player?

If you already believed Lebron was better, that's cool too. Just wanna know if Lebron as changed any minds, even though it's early in the season and stats are still fluctuating...

Lebron is easily better than Kobe overall at this point. Lebron's numbers are better and he is a harder matchup than Kobe is. I'd still give Kobe the edge on defense because Lebron decides he doesn't want to play defense half the time, but I think that will change as he matures.

how is he overall better if your giving kobe the edge on defense? duh!! anyways kobe has a better work ethic, better jumpshot, better defense, better footwork, more offensive skills, and understands the game i think way better than lebron. The only thing lebron has right now is more alethic ability and thats due to his age.

I don't get how LeBron is "easily" overall better when you're admitting that Kobe is a better defender and the only thing that LeBron possesses over Kobe is athletic ability. Kobe's game is so much more well rounded it's not even funny.

I admitted that the only thing that Lebron possesses over Kobe is athletic ability? LeBron has out performed Kobe in the past few seasons. The stats don't lie.

Kobe ain't a great defender, just good, someone who takes as much time off during games can't be consider great on defense.

In the last 2 years Kobe has led his team to 2 conference titles and a championship. Yep, LeBron sure has been better recently:roll: Cleveland: Where making the Eastern Conference Finals matters.

:| Yes, because the Laker's success compared to the Cavalier's success translates directly to which player is better.

Sure, because is LeBron's fault that his team sucks so much. Anymore knowledge you want to share?

lmao, this forum is so damn anti kobe it's hilarious. Lebron is not better. All around Kobe is a better basketball player. LeBron is a better athlete:| Whooptee ****ing doo:| Who has the better jumper? Who's the better defender? Who's the better leader? Who has the higher work ethic, the most will to win? Who's the better post player? Who's better when his team NEEDS a bucket? Kobe. And I'll take that over LeBron getting chase down blocks every day of the week. The Lakers are a better basketball team than the Cavs, yes, but as the leader of the team, you take accountability when your team wins or loses. Kobe lead his team to a championship. That counts, along with your individual accomplishments.

And you have anything to back up what you're saying? Laughable.

All I know is that Kobe can kill you in any way. You wanna take away the jumper? He's quick enough to go by you. He can hit the 3. He can play with his back to the basket. The footwork is impeccable. He can get to the line, he can defend, he can get you a bucket when you need it. Can you post up LeBron with his back to the basket? What does LeBron do when teams dare him to shoot? Where's LeBron's killer instinct when he senses weakness in the other team?

Uh, yeah I do. Check the stats for both players on NBA.com. Lebron leads Kobe in every, or almost every major category in both their career stats, and recent season stats. And to answer all of those questions, and to show the "leadership", "will to win", and "clutchness" you were talking about earlier.

LeBron also plays on a team where he is really the only good offensive player. The Lakers have Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol, Artest, Bynum. Kobe doesn't get the number of opportunities LeBron does playing on a team with as much offensive talent as the Lakers have. Come on dude. I've been there before where Kobe was the only dude on a team and had huge statistics. I don't care about statistics. Allen Iverson led the league in steals before, I don't know anyone that thinks he's a good defender. I've seen LeBron take over a playoff game once(The amazing game against Detroit). I've seen Kobe take over games for a decade now. In the Finals, in the Western conference finals, hitting the shot against Phoenix in 06, winning the division against Portland with a buzzer beater, taking over game 4 in 2000 against Indiana, the near triple double in 2000 against Portland in game 7 when Shaq was doing jack ****, game 1 of the Finals last year, the 3 that tied game 2 of the 2004 finals with less than 10 seconds left, etc.... I've seen him lock down a teams best perimiter player. I've even seen him lock down LeBron last year.... I just don't see any of this in LeBron when it comes to the playoff season. He shot 30 something percent against Boston in 2008. He didn't light up the Eastern Conference Finals last year either. Just sayin.

LeBron is way harder to defend than Kobe is since he has improved his jumper. Also if I had to pick a player to defend Paul Pierce, Kevin Durrant, Carmello Anthony, and etc its easily LeBron.

LeBron didn't even take the challenge to defend Rashard Lewis when he was murdering his team last May, and you think he can lock down 3 of the best scorers in the league? IDK about that. There's very few people if any that can defend Carmelo Anthony without help and I don't consider LeBron one of them.

We're not gonna change each other's mind so we'll agree to disagree. Hopefully the Lakers & Cavs meet in the Finals.

Maybe in an NBA with no foul out. I would never put my main scorer on the opposing scorer.

Of course I'm biased towards Cleveland. The difference is that I'm actually recognizing that there is other talent in the league. In a thread about who is currently the better player, you bring up three instances that happened 5 years ago at the earliest. You claim that you have seen take over a game only once...is that a joke? I've said this for 2 years now and nothing has changed my mind. I would take Lebron for the first 43 minutes of a game and Kobe for the last 5. I guess it's all subjective to who thinks which one is more important, the "vast majority" of the game or the "final" minutes. You all can decide

I remember watching the team with Van Exel and I remember watching the airballs against Utah in the playoffs. Also, I said I've seen LeBron take over "one playoff game". Reading comprehension ftw.

Lebron is an overrated defender. All of a sudden people are saying he's a great defender because of those highlight reel blocks? Please.

Like Halftime said earlier in the thread, if he really was a great defender, he would have stepped up against Rashard Lewis in May. Too bad he didn't.

Anyone who thinks Lebron is better than Kobe really hasn't been watching basketball long enough.

Kobe's skill >> Lebrons brute force. Kobe's got the best fadeaway in the game since MJ's, better 1 on 1 defense, better shot, better foot work.

The real comparison should be Melo/Lebron or Wade/Lebron.

No because Kobe has done it in the Finals. Also Lebrick was a chump after losing to the Magic.

Think I'll still go with Kobe based on some of the things Halftime stated (polish, footwork, post-up ability...). I'll also give credit to Lebron for improving some of the things I held against him in the past (shooting/defense).

How about we say they're both two of the best players in the NBA and leave it at that?

there's a reason why Kobe was guarding the best offensive player on each team they went up against in the Olympics and Lebron was not aside from defense though, Kobe has far more offensive skills than Lebron. I'll give the edge to Lebron in passing and dunking but other then that Kobe has a better post game, better mid range jumper, better footwork, better fadeaway, the list goes on

Lerbon is a freak of nature. But Kobe's Skill is unmatched. He can beat in so many ways it's ridiculous.

LeBron is not better. Kobe has a better shot, and is a better defensive player. Also, Kobe has something that LeBron does not, and that's a killer instinct. Jordan had it, Kobe has it, D-Wade has it, etc. Certain players have it players like Carmelo, LeBron, T-Mac, and A.I. did not

Do you watch LeBron play or do you just say what you hear other people say. Also can you go into detail on what a killer instinct is?

Clutch shot when everyone knows you're getting the ball and taking the shot, Lebrick doesn't have that many memorable game winners and/or clutch shots.

Exactly, I didn't hear this stupid assertion after LeBron scored 25 straight in a double overtime win in the playoffs over the Pistons back in 07. That I might add led them to a series win after falling to a 0-2 deficit.

Cool, he did it once. Can he do it again and again like Wade or Kobe? Sorry but in an NBA Finals game with less than 5 minutes left I don't think LeBron can take me where I need to go. I'll take Wade and Kobe over him. Until he proves he can do it on the biggest stage that's just the way it's gonna be for me.

No because Kobe has done it in the Finals. Also Lebrick was a chump after losing to the Magic. X360PS3AMD05
Nah, the rest of the team lost that series. Mo Williams failed to show up and our big men looked afraid to play defense.

Yeah that was Lebron showing no class at all. Hopefully next time he grows up.

Still he has many years ahead of him and he does have the potential to pass Kobe.

Still I'd rather have Kobe than Lebron but it would be a really tough choice.

LOL. i love the chirping that goes on whenever this thread (again) pops up. Couple of years ago when the lakers weren't winning, all the hate was on kobe since people couldn't stand the thought of him being arguably the best in the world. Now that the lakers are winning, all the the hate is on lebron since people - mostly laker fans - can't stand the thought of him being arguably the best in the world. same ol same ol

Not really, i've always hated on Lebron  My uncle always hated on Kobe so maybe that has something to do with it. The guy hasn't done anything yet so people need to relax, he was hyped as the next MJ out of high school come on............

I actually used to like LeBron... I have his jersey somewhere. I bought his and Wade's jersey awhile back. I don't wear either of them anymore, but they were half off if you bought 2 so.... Anyways, like I said, even as a huge Laker fan and Kobe fan, I used to like LeBron. Then he actually started believing he was "the king" and got incredibly arrogant and smug to the point that I couldn't stand him. Him not shaking hands last year and all this attention whoring about changing his number, playing for the knicks, or jumping to the NFL makes me hate him even more. Dude needs to shut his godamn mouth, play basketball, and prove to us he's the best in the world, not talk about "I'm a competitor so I don't shake hands" or "I could be a great tight end". No one cares about that. Grow up.

I dont think LeBron didnt shake hands with the Magic to be a jerk. He was just very upset and went to his locker room because he was upset. I cant give a comment about the tight end thing because I never heard of it although I am sure your blowing it out of preportion and he was probably kidding. Also LeBron hasnt said anything about the Knicks. He hasnt said anything about next year. Just because other people talk about him alot doesnt mean you should blame him.

I don't care if he didn't do it to be a jerk. Do you think players want to shake hands after they lose in the Super Bowl? In the NBA Finals? Do you think Kobe wanted to congratulate Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers after what happened in 2008? No, he didn't. But he did anyway, and he left the court afterwards. with tears in his eyes. NOBODY wants to shake hands after they lose important games. But you act like a man and a professional and you do it anyway. You are held to a higher standard and you should act like an adult. Period.
