Id shell out 1st round draft picks for Calvin Johnson. I could see the Bears doing this trade to give the threat Jay Cutler needs. CleanPlayer
A. This is a stupid move by the Lions. Johnson is a go-to guy for Stafford, he needs a receiver like that when he's goung through growing pains. OL's take time to mature, but they could be good as early as next season. That, and the draft is usually more reliable then free agency or trades with OL.
B. The Bears don't have any first or second round picks in the next draft (Cutler and Gaines Adams).
C. The Bears have more problems on offense than receiver. The trained monkey running the show needs to go, the fact that he's had such longevity with the Bear over two stints despite being a terrible offensive playcaller baffles me. The O-line hasto step up. Most of the people starting nowhave potential and are young. Williams, Omiyale, Kreutz, Shaffer, Beekman, and Garza have all proven to be more than competent at times, but it's obvious something's missing. Get a new line coach, give them a solid season together, if they're still this bad then make some wholesale changes. Still, drafting another lineman prolly isn't a bad idea. The last thing is to give receivers a chance. Hester hasn't been bad as a route-runner, I think Aromashadu has the potential to be a go-to receiver, and Knox is a good deep threat. Not that I don't think Calvin Johnson would be a good addition, he's better than all of them, I'm just saying he doesn't fill a need. He's a possession receiver, and between Olsen and Aromoshadu we have that need filled. We'd have to give up a lot to get Johnson, probably more than we have. With the situation with Kevin Smith I'd say we'd have to give up a back, probably Forte, and I really don't want to see him go. We're better off trying to draft receivers or snag a good pickup, once Jerry Angelo is gone we should be in infinitely better shape in the draft.
