So with 40 or so games left on the season, which team you consider best?

Yankees are dominating right now. They look pretty good.
My Marlins are still in it, but they are slowly falling apart. Not enough pitching and some injuries to the offense has taken them a step back this past week. We're gonna need an excellent homestand to have any chance of getting back into the race.
Now, why would the Cubs be worth mentioning, while the Braves and Marlins aren't? And it pretty much has to be the Yankees, with the Angels being the only team that could make an argument.Teams worth mentioning: Cardinals, Tigers, Giants, Rays, Rockies, Rangers, Cubs and Red Sox.

For me, this is the best Yanks team since 2006. True power pitching that can dominate a series with CC, Burnett and Chamberlain. The only teams that can match that are the Tigers with Verlander, Jackson and Washburn and the Sox with Beckett and Lester. Master_Live
Did you really just put Chamberlain in the same sentence as "dominate?" What exactly does Washburn match up to?

Well, Washburn has been pretty good, and Chamberlain has been 4-1 with a 3.35 ERA in six starts since the All-Star break which is nice for our 3rd starter.Yankees, Cardinals should be on there instead of the Phillies IMO. Scratch that, haven't the Angles owned the Yankees? Then i say Angels, also the Cubs and Giants aren't worth mentioning. Red Sox or Rangers will get the AL Wild Card, Rockies or Marlins will get the NL Wild Card.X360PS3AMD05yankees ARE 2-4 against LAA. You cant have a winning % against every team. Yankees>>LAA right now

wait wait..why would you say poor yankee fans? Our pitching staff is actually leading us to the playoffsFor me, this is the best Yanks team since 2006. Heh, if that's your standard of measure, then we may never again see a dominant pitching staff.

In case you haven't paid attention over the past decade, the Angels haved owned the Yankees. It hasn't been any different this season.
Dominating pitching staff with one world series to show for in 10 years (correct me if I am wrong)? Playoffs are about pitching, and I'm not saying the Braves pitching wasn't great, but dominating in the playoffs, no. feryl06The bats kept going cold during the WS, everybody knows that. The pitching? No way. Smoltz is easily one of the best postseason pitchers of all time. And 5 NL pennants say they were dominant in the playoffs.

and that makes LAA the best team this season? w/e helps u sleep at nightIf Smoltz gives up less than four runs per outting with offense being semi productive i really think the cards have a good chance this year to make it to the world series. too many NL teams are one sided.
Cliff Lee has been sensational since being traded to the Phillies; now, if only Hamels could get on track the Phillies might repeat.

we played in 5 world series in that 10 year stretch.....that is a damn good pitching staff....but for what ever reason we would choke world series awayI'm gonna say Philly, Yankees, and Tigers. Pitching wins in the playoffs. Cliff Lee is a huge addition to Philly and if Cole Hamel can find his stuff again in the post season they'll win the NL.
Being a Tiger fan I follow them closely and they have one of the best 1-2 punches for starters this year (Verlander and Edwin Jackson). They also have a solid 3-4 with Washburn (even though he is slumping right now) and Rick Porcello who may be the rookie of the year.
