Nascar is NOT a sport.

Neither is golf.

Niether is poker.

Actually, I'm not so sure about golf, but I would never consider the other two sports. And all 3 are boring to watch

actually it depends on what you mean by sport. 2 definitions from Oxford English Dictionary:

1. Pleasant pastime; entertainment or amusement; recreation, diversion.

2. Participation in games or exercises, esp. those of an athletic character or pursued in the open air; such games or amusements collectively.

Naturally, OED has about 7 definitions, but these are the two that are relevant. According to the 1st meaning, picking your nose can be considered a sport, and then, yes, so is NASCAR. Now, the 2nd definition seems more accurate for our purposes. NASCAR is a game, but I don't see how it is one of an athletic character. And being in the open air seems a bit irrelevant to me. what if you're under a dome? Back to the subject of athletics:

1. Pertaining to an athlete, or to contests in which physical strength is vigorously exercised.

This is obviously the adjective definition as used in the definition of sport above. Now take NASCAR. Physical strength, however stressed, is certainly not vigorously excercised. Therefore, imo, it's not a sport. Now we have to settle on how to define vigorously (how vigorous does it have to be to be a sport) but I think we can at least agree that poker is not a sport according to OED. IN CONCLUSION:

NASCAR - undecided; still not a sport IMO

Golf - probly a sport

Poker - LMAO Ya right....

Agree

Disagree, Golf might be boring to watch, but there are many aspects of the game and you do compete.

Agree, Poker is more of a hobby

I could be writing and hurt my wrist and get injured, does that mean writing is a sport. You can't say that just because you can get hurt racing, that it is automatically a sport.

Exactly my point. Just because there are dangers and hazards doesn't make it a sport. You won't find that in any dictionary definition.

A sport is something where there is competition, and there certainly is competition in NASCAR. Teamwork is also important in NASCAR, especially in Daytona and Talladega. Those races are won with strategy, so i do think NASCAR is a sport. At least its more fun than seeing a guy hit a ball with a stick and run 10 feet.

I would rather watch someone hit a ball, then watch cars go in circles for 500 laps when the only interesting part is the last 2 or 3 laps or so.

Theres competition in a lot of things - coin flipping, hot dog eating contests, Steve O and Johnny Knoxville kicking each other in the balls...
